Lots of classes. But not the right classes?

mmofanaticmmofanatic Member UncommonPosts: 136

After pondering for a day of what class i should make to play Vanguard i have come to the conclusion that i hate all of the classes.

When i first got the game i started as a shaman. Didnt like it after a while when i noticed that i worked for cool items, but wouldnt be able to see the graphics cause i spent most of my time in wolf form.

After playing a healer i tried a monk. Well after playing a healer, i couldnt get use to not being able to fight mobs a higher level than me because i couldnt heal.

So now i sit and look for a class that will be fun to play. And none, other than the Berserker, which isn't implemented, sound like fun. I like to play a hybrid class that has a strong pet and can still take and do damage. Beastlord in EQ and a Hunter in WoW. But sadly there is nothing remotley like this.

If anyone has some pros can cons on some other classes i would like to hear them. Ive checked some websites but they dont really say what i need.

I have yet to find a game that I am 100% happy with the class....hell 80% would be closer.

I am the same way, I love pet classes, but would love to be able to tank, and DPS myself...wait...I want a pet, I want to tank, and I want to DPS, oh what the hell, let me be able to heal myself too, then I will have found my favorite class....what shall we call it? GOD? Demi-god? Gorgon? Hero? Master race?

Sorry for the sarcasm <no I'm really not> but please, you can't have the best of everything, you get to be the best at one or two aspects as a dedicated class, or pretty good at several thing in a hybrid class.

I agree though, I wish to be a god too please.....

I never said i wanted to be "God". I said i wanted to be a hybrid. Which i find a lot of games lack.

This is why I prefer open ended games like Eve, you can be anything you want.

Vanguards classes are bland and boring... I played most classes and jus didn't find any of them fun and quit the game cus got bored of it. Why i love WOW soo much cause the game has fewer AMAZING classes and theres one for everyone!

Makes it worse no class really has any kool looking spells or skills and everyone really looks the same for the most part until you get higher level and people start to have much different armor types.

You have it backwards. When i use to play people looked more different at the lower levels because they mainly used random greens. And at the top levels everyone used their tier raid gear.

A really fascinating hybrid is the blood mage: You can both DPS and HEAL, but not both (effectively) at the same time.

You basically have three stances: One that increases your damage output at the cost of your health, one that decreases your damage but adds a lot to your mitigation and healing powers and one that is neutral (no effects).

What makes the bloodmage fun to play is the requirement to change stances in certain situations and the fact that you get invisibility and counterspell, which makes the bloodmage a very viable PvP character (was once one of the most powerful, but I haven't played recently so that might have changed).

Bloodmages also get a sort of combo point system where each attack made adds a point to the target and the points (once they reach a certain level) can be converted into damage or health (and are then consumed).

The Bloodmage's attacks consist of powerful nukes, DoTs and drains, which can almost rival the effectiveness of a sorcerer's/psi's.

In certain situations, the DPS of a bloodmage can come VERY close if not spot on to a sorcerer's (which is arguably the most damaging class in the game next to or above rogue), which makes soloing a breeze and group utility if there is already a healer.

Bloodmages even get an invulnerability shield on top of that....

You've just got to try one to really get the gist of it though.

Ok define a hybrid....ummm shadow knight necro/fighter....paladin cleric/fighter....you are eith a fighter, a caster, a ranged fighter, or a hybrid.....shaman is a hybrid healer/dot caster/fighter  sure sucks at all three for the most part, but what do you expect from a multi use class?

Games like eve or FFXI actually give class hoppers like myself a lot of choices by allowing us to switch classes with out haveing to reroll the whole charachter. Another game, a little cheese game called Dungeon Runners I am playing right now is the same way, for a small price <a good chunk of your gold really> you can re-spec your stats to be something else.

I hate being limited to one roll.  I think if I like to play a necromancer, I should be able to encase myself in solid black plate armor and bash stuff with my death enchanted mace while casting spells, just like clerics tend to be able to do in games. Yes..I think there should be some penalty for wearing full plate metal...like a increased timer to my spell casting, takes me longer to cast, longer to recoupe from casting, etc... Or like in dungeon runners, I can be a full on mage wearing full plate if I want...side effect, all heavy armor has a % reduction to run speed, and none of it seems to have a + bonus for intell, agility, or spell damage....so I can take a hit, but I do less damage, and get hit more often, where as with robes and cloth armor, I can cast stronger spells doing more damage, have more mana, can run from battles, etc...

When a game gets all of the aspects right, we are all going to be in trouble, they will have to start adding life support periphiels to our computers.

"Yeah, I just ordered a new dell, 46 inch holographic screen, rear labotomy style brain jack to eliminate the need for controls or keyboards, a 50 gallon per day urine purifier to keep myself hydrated, and they said I would be able to get the new style aluminum lung rather then the out dated iron one for respiration. I hope the remember to add the automated butt wiper , and IV support rack."

    Did you try a necro?

    Wish Darkfall would release.

  • moostownmoostown Member CommonPosts: 377

I wish people would stop calling necro a pet class : It's a mage with a minion tbh.

Pet class is like a Creature handler in SWG or beatslord in EQ or Hunter in gears of WOW.

Well, I can tell you a class not to play... skip the Druid..... underpowered compared to some of the others, at least from a soloing perspective.

    both

    attack on your command

can be healed by you when hurt

    have special attacks etc

    so reallly....whats different about them?

    Pets....Minions......SEMANTICS

Are you serious? My druid was incredibly easy to solo with (and fun too), since you have very high and efficient single target dps along with taproot to regenerate your mana when it gets low; your fighting as a druid consists of applying dots and kiting while occasionally using nukes to speed the process up.

If you plan on PvPing with a druid, then the druid is still powerful thanks to starfall (although they plan on changing this, so ... beware).

The thing is that the OP requested a pet class with a durable character sans pet. Necros are very squishy until later levels (if they choose a certain form). I sort of went off on a tangent too when I recommended something that the OP didn't request, but that's what moos meant.

Did I miss something? Wasn't the necro capable of ressurecting a dead mob to fight for them? and wasn't it able to do this on a mob up to four levels above them? Thus a pet class. The pet can tank, and dps.

In fact as far as pet classes go, can you consider the ranger a pet class? The summon pet spell is the weakest I have ever seen, and in a good fight, the pet is dead damn near instantly. The spell to more or less force an animal to be you pet break easy as heck too, and was rarely used except to open a fight.

The psionic had just as good if not better pet that more or less sent a copy of the target on itself.

Pets in Vanguard are the worst I have seen.

Best pet class in a game, I would have to say the hunter in WoW, you got to choose your pet type, and buy bonuses for it to hit harder, or have a higher AC etc...

EQ2 the necro was a pretty cool pet class.

the mastermind I think it was in city of heroes/villans is a cool pet class too.

YES NECRO IS A PET CLASS!!!!

Druids actually have a pet to.  Not permenant, but we can summon a rock elemental (brute) to fight.  Doesn't tank but is a nice dot.

It goes away if you're not engaged in combat for 10 sec.  It's nice in a group that's moving quickly.

Edit:  I have to agree with LortTwisted.  I really enjoyed playing my hunter in WoW.  Especially in PvP.  I could actually take out lvl 60 warrriors and rogues when I was in my 40's, before they patched them.  In my low 30's I kited the hell out of a lvl 60 warrior that kept killing a 60 rogue in STV.  Couldn't kill the guy but I did take enough of his health for the rogue to kill him.  Got a lot of respect from that guy.  It got kind of depressing though.  After awhile no one would duel me anymore; even after I hit 60.  A friend of mine got a kick out of watching other hunters trying to duel the same people and lose; then ask me how to do it.  I felt like a teacher sometimes.  Really was a lot of fun.

Those duels were always so funny, because hunters are so used to rogues rushing in and losing the precious opener. I just waited for however long it took to get the hunter bored and run out of his trap+flare. People hated me for it and refused to duel me, because I played the patient cat and mouse game with them regardless of class.

In the open game though, night elf hunters were my butter and bread.
