Discuss # of players in the closed beta?

Does anyone know how many players (approx) are playing in the closed beta and Also how many more they will accept?

Most games atleast in my recent memory don't ever release approximate numbers of beta testers and the testers themselves could only give their opinion of how many where there after the NDA is lifted since for WAR they're allowed to say they're in beta but not much else.

As for how many more they're taking, they're only in stage one outside testing so I suspect many many many more people will be let in; of course there's also guilds getting in eventually too (so many people to struggle against for a spot!).  Supposedly (this is rumour since I don't remember them ever saying it other people have said it)anyone that signed up for the newsletter before a specific time (you'd be listed as a veteran newsletter subscriber i suspect) will get into the beta at some point.  I'm guessing that'll be their version of open beta since they're not doing a traditional open beta (this is on their website faq / grab bag section somewhere if my memory serves me correct).

yeah I saw that on thier web site they have about 357k applications already, that amount seems a bit low considering the responce and sheer anticipation for this game. But then again its still only phase 1 so im sure there will get a ton more apps in.

357k applications for a beta seems low? You have to be nuts to think something like that.

That many beta applications is a very high number. High enough that I doubt they will need to do an open beta to test the servers if they really don't want to.

In fact, I very highly doubt they would want to do an open beta because of the sheer volume of applications they have.

Sadly, people who play the game in beta and have problems(like unstable servers or lag) tend to get pissed off and spread the word that the lag is horrible and the servers are unstable.

This is very unfortunate because the object of open beta is to see how much their servers can handle before they get to that point. So of course they are going to keep pushing and pushing their servers harder and harder until they are unstable. If the numbers they get don't satisfy them, then they will upgrade their servers and keep going with the tests until they get to a level where they are happy with the server performance.

But back to the point. 357k beta applications is an incredibly large amount of apps. So large that your chances of getting in(if they don't do an open beta) are pretty small.

Most MMOs HAVE to do an open beta to get the numbers of players they need to test their servers. WAR however apparently won't need to do that.

They also gave out promotional codes at Games Workshop Gamesday with the promise that those who entered them on their beta application would be in beta before the game launches.

I have both the newsletter status and the Gamesday code. I just hope I get in soon
