Games that look awesome but you can just tell will be a kill fest....

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not pointing fingers at any MMORPG in particular but just generally, I've been looking at games like Aion and City of Heroes, heck even the asian grind games like Cabal Online and Flyff occasionally, they all look so fun and the graphics look nice as well but.... Why?! Why do they have to ruin games with such potential and just turn them into kill x number of monsters to level up once? I mean, I was looking at the Aion class combat video and all i could see was someone spending about a minute trying to kill one monster with the health barely going down. In city of heroes I see so many objects like background or NPC guns and armour ( the kind you see lying on tables or on stands ) just lying there and not being used in games and you just having to kill everything in a room.

What happened to the innovation in these games that developers are bragging about? I was really impressed with the Aion clothing video and the fact that they had managed to get the clothes flowing like real cloth material while characters ran, but even in Lord of the Rings online too, all it is, just kill x number of monsters and get loot ( I played the Open Beta for that game a bit ). No story behind it, no incentives to actually get where your going to go, so why? Why must developers ruin these games that have such great potential I would have gladly stuck with that game if it hadn't been just collect x number of monsters for experience. What happened to having to use some real strategy? Ambushing them or trying to make fighting look like an actual struggle between your character and the monster? I was especially annoyed when I tried out RF Online as well, the game had such good art but they ruined it by just turning it into a complete and utter grind fest where you didn't even have to think properly to play it.

I apologize if this sounds a bit 'too' much of a rant for you, but I have not been able to play an MMORPG where you actually have to think in order to level up or gain skills in years, why must developers waste such potential for games, I just find it incredibly depressing because it seems like we're actually going backwards right now.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
