What happens when you die?

frehleyfrehley Member Posts: 46

I've only ever played FFXI, so I was wondering what happens when your character dies, or gets knocked out, in the game? In FFXI, you could loose up to 10% of your experience based on your tnl. Not only that though, you could stand the chance of deleveling, which imo, was one of the suckier parts of the game.

Thanks for the answers. ^^

Do yourself a favor and try it free for 10 days.  Will answer a lot more questions then these forums will.

Death is more forgiving in WoW.

If you die you become a ghost, and have to run from the nearest graveyard to where you died. Good news is, you can walk on water and are safe from any attack as a ghost. Once you arrive at your body you can ressurect, and will all of your items will lose a small amount of durability. (Once all durability is lost the item will break). Of course, whatever killed you is still likely there, so you'll want to think carefully about when and where you ressurect.

Also, if you wish, you can talk to a Spirit Healer to ressurect directly at the graveyard instead, but you will lose much more durability, and for 10 minutes your stats will be greatly reduced (you pretty much cannot fight at all)

    Well, easy to answer.

After you die, you press the "Release spirit" buttom and then you turn into a spirit and you are teleported to the nearest Spirit Healer and you have two choices:

    - Go after your body and ressurrect. If it's really far you probably won't do that.

    - Talk with the Spirit Healer and  ressurrect there with him. If you choose this you will have ressurrection sickness ( all your stats are reduced 75%, or 70% can't remenber,  for "x" minutes, the time you will be sick depends on your level) Higher level higher sickness time.

    nothing

Oh yeah, I forgot about having the sickness from being raised. Sounds like a pretty cool system. One question though, is there anything you can do about the durability of your items?

Oh and as for actually trying the game out, I would LOVE to, but I can't. I would just want to do nothing but play and I can't afford the time at this moment in my life. Hopefully sometime I will get a chance though. :)

Yes, you can repair items at any item. Also, broken items will not be lost, but are just unusable until you repair them.

The cost for repair can be anywhere from chump change to a fortune depending on the gear being repaired.

IF i remember correctly when you talk to spirit healer you also take damage to your items in your inventory except sickness and 75% lower stats for x time and item that you had on .

So better not do it unless you are wealthy ,very low level or with green gear and empty inventory.

At low level, dieing is not really an issue.

But the better your gear is, the higher your repair costs are. So if a person with lots of very good (epic) gear joins a poor group that wipes a lot, he may quit because the repair costs are causing him to lose money on the adventure.

Another issue is on pvp servers, where some of the more immature players may chose to guard (camp) your corpse, and kill you again as soon as you come back to life. A lot of the time you can find some clever way to escape, or call in help. It's also possible to ressurect at the spirit healers and take the hit on equipment and resurrection sickness. Another common option is to switch characters, read a book, make tea or whatever, leaving the imbecile camping an empty shell.
