As it is I still crash even on High settings which is ridiculous. It's not my hardware, it's the game.

    Then everyone would crash right?

Well no, it's dependent on having certain hardware/software but I doubt it's directly caused by this or else we'd have the same problem after altering the EQ2 exe file.

But what does it really do?

    Removing the symptom?

    Fixing the problem?

(Oh by god those two things are not the same.)

If SOE did know of a fix for the problem I am quite shure that they would do it. What are ther with the fix you referred to you know if it indirectly leads to another error. You know if one can compare it to constantly switching a lightbulb because it breaks over and over because of the current being to high for it.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Good god, look... obviously this isn't a common problem. That means IT YOUR COMPUTER, not the program. If it was the program, more people would be reporting it and freaking out over it. It means theres a conflict between your computer and the game. It does not mean its solely the game. From the sounds of it, its a conflict between your graphics card and the .exe file. If it was more common, they would have fixed it already by themselves.

lol yea played for awhile then went to wow came back and this happens about once a hour now and HALF my guild has the same issue so I guess we all have the same pc issues but my fix has been canceling my account again not going to play a game that is having these kind of issues this long after release.

Like I posted earlier just turn the shadows down or off. I reported that the tech department last fall when I played the game. I had a 7900 GT and that worked like a champ for me,  looks like they still have not figured out how to fix it though.

Not knowing what the actual problem is I couldn't really say. It could be that allowing more than 2GB memory just gives the game that extra bit of breathing space it needs. All I know is that when doing this, I can play at max settings for 5-6 hours straight without crashing once.

The amount of posts from people suffering from this problem on the official EQ2 forum suggests it is quite a common error message for a lot of people. And only a small percentage of users will actually post on the forums.

Looking through all the posts, there is not one common piece of hardware (different graphics cards, cpus, motherboards, memory, etc) and software (different OSs, drivers) so very unlikely to be a conflict between the game and my graphics card. SOE have identified it as a problem as they've made a stickied post asking for feedback from people suffering from it, they just haven't done anything to fix it yet.

I'd guess that as now more and more people have machines that are capable of running games at high settings (or at least should be able to), we are seeing problems with the graphics engine. I believe it's quite known that the EQ2 engine appears to be bloated and badly optimised (places far too much strain on the CPU and not enough on the graphics card for one).
