IMHO the real point of this thread (if you'll allow me to say OP) is that we are all desperate for MMORPGs to live up to our dreams or at least meet us halfway...stating that we would be prepared to pay more for this is a kind of cry for help aimed at the Devs.
....in other words
"What do we have to do for you to make us the games we want to play?.....the MMO we all dream about!!....more money?..fine... you got it...now go and make the damn thing and make it right for once!"
Hmm that $15 probably goes too profits anyway. But Everquest had a higher subscription server for a time, legends server? promising extra GM events, items which you could name?, and I think some sort of personal web profile devoted to your character or something naff. I got a feeling I did consider it one time or another but can't remember why.
I would willing to spend more money each month on a monthly subscription if I KNEW that I was getting more content and enjoyment out of it. I emphasis KNEW, because I would have to readily see a distinct improvement in what I was getting post-launch for the extra money I was shelling out in a more expensive subscription.
An integrated voice chat system that is as good or better than what I currently have using ventrillo would be a start. I stress the fact that it needs to be at least as good as what I experience with ventrillo. Some in-game crap like you see built into Counter-Strike would not do. I need something as customizable and easy to use as vent.
A steady and frequent addition of new content would help sway to to be willing to shell out more money each month. Most MMOs barely even patch in new content on a monthly basis. If it that could be improved upon to bi-weekly or at worst montly stream of new content that would be nice, and it would be something I could at least see myself willing to pay extra for.
A steady stream of in game events would probably be the greates addtion that I would be willing to pay extra for. GM events, live events, or whatver you want to call them. I am not talking about the typical Real Life Holiday equals some in game nonsense event. I am talking about random in game events. A GM pops in and creates a live event for players who happen to be around. This would have to be a pretty regular occurance though, because if you only do it once in a while it ends up being everyone on the server converges to the spot within 5 minutes. They would have to be frequent enought so that people don't feel compelled to drop what they are doing and rush over to whatever live event in going on.
id really prefer to buy the game retail and have the companies use in game advertising so i can play it for free than have to pay 25$ a month for something im most likely going to quit after 3 months or so
considering a new game every month would cost me well over 50 bucks a month.. not to mention a normal box game only lasts a week or two unless its got really good multiplayer.
Id gladly fork over 30-40 dollars a month for an mmorpg. With that extra money they could hire more people for support, better people for support. They could have more live events becuase of the extra money to hire people to do it.
40 bucks isnt much for a month worth if entertainment. I dont think people realize that. Thats almost a movie with your girlfriend assuming you get food. Its cheaper than a night at the bar for most people.
its less than a days work even at minimum wage. As well as still being cheaper than buying a new game every month, not to mention much more fun. If any of the next-gen games wanted a 30 dollar fee or 40 fee a month, id be fine with that. Infact id probably be partial to that game seeing as it would be getting more funding to add interesting things.
Especially considering live GM events would probably make a comeback due to the availability of funds to hire people for it.
Personally I think increasing of the cost of monthly fees is going to bring about a change. The games that charge more will have more money/player to host events and do interesting things that other companies don't have the capital/player to do.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
I wouldnt pay $30+ a month for any MMO currently available. I also wouldnt pay that to fund a future "super mmo". Id have to see upfront what was offered for that increased amount of subscription price. Id want personalized content, Immediate CS support and Major monthly updates and Events(for all play times) and more...
EQ tried the whole Premium Server(Legends) deal and it was a total bust. They didnt or couldnt deliver on the promised features at 40$ a month and this was 5 yrs ago.

Ah...........I forgot all about this. I should have known SOE had already tried something lame to make some extra cash somewhere down the road. This pretty much puts this topic to rest. More fees guarantees NOTHING.

15$ a month isn't cheap, not with the crap that is out there.

At least thats my take on it.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
For the amount of time I put into MMOs $15 a month is cheap, but I'm not saying monthly fees have to be more.
