I think Conan is going to win the war between the two. Only reason I say thing. Most people know Conan, very few people know Warhammer. I like Warhammer myself, so It will be interesting to see.
Gamers know Mythic, DAoC, and the RvR they created. I’m excited to try out an improved RvR model. I don’t think IP is going to decide anything but rather it will be the scope, design, and quality of the game. On these aspects I imagine the creators of DAoC have experience and the upper hand.
warhammer online is based off of a games workshop IP , in actuality it is a very popular company, they are the ones that make the little models, etc.
Though we have heard of stupid haste in war, cleverness has never been seen associated with long delays. -Sun Tzu, the Art of War
I think Conan and Warhammer come out fairly even on the IP itself. They are certainly not equal in every country, but overall I think they're almost shoulder by shoulder.
The factors to put them apart will, in my opinion, be the entry threshold / learning curve (easier = more players), the technical performance (latency, downtime and bugs), and the content. On the content side PvE will matter more than PvP simply because more players prefer PvE (even though PvP players may be more vocal and more active in-game - the masses are the real casual players and they play PvE).
I honestly think the delays we see in both games may be related to the developers realising that last part, and taking more time to get the PvE content in properly after all the PvP talk and focus.
I am glad that they have delayed release. Not only does that mean that they are aware that they need the additional time
to fix bugs, but to add more content and polish. This delay will also give me time to upgrade my PC, so that I'll be able to enjoy AOC.
I also don't think that AOC releasing close to WAR will impact either game. What would be interesting is if Blizzard moved up the WOTLK to early Spring.
I really don’t understand the arguing over WAR and AoC. They both have decent IPs. They both have some unique and interesting features. They are both emphasizing PvP. They are both being developed by companies with good track records in MMORPGs. I was glad when Mythic announced its delay because I knew it meant the game would be better at release, and I am glad AoC just announced a delay for the same reason. Frankly, I hope both games are successful because I would love to finally have to pick between two great games instead of trying to decide what game out there is the least crappy.
