No official forums? lol?

'Q. Will there be official forums for the game?'

'A. No. There will be no public forums run by either Goa or EA Mythic however we will be supporting a number of sites run by fans and participating in community discussions there.'

Seriously... what sort of joke is that?

Because your post so eloquently shows why official boards are a waste of time.

Why do people keep complaining about this?  Why should it even be a question that keeps coming up?  Theres no point in forums for the game, its just a bunch of people crying about someone who killed him in game or easy access to other faction interaction which could be trading items or giving away pvp kills(not sure of course since the game isnt out) but theres no positive reason to have forums for an mmo.

they should host some.... they have them for Closed beta. i don't see why they would discontinue... well they would need a different forum for a larger number of people.

Plenty of other sites to support the forums so who cares? meh...

  • aqeeaqee Member Posts: 40

A unoffical forum can have much harsher and better moderation than a official one as they need to maintain neutral something unofficial doesn't.
Also on a official forum people expect/demand official replies from Devs/Gms thats just waisting their time and resources.

They have to use private forums for beta for security reasons... Nothing like handing over information on every aspect of your game to someone outside your company. Once the NDA is lifted the forums are no longer needed and will be dropped.

    Why do I care?

    1) Centralised community.

    2) No tech support forums.

    3) Shows devs have no interest in hearing feedback on the game.

Yes, there is another topic, oh well my bad.

Um...Have you ever been to the fansites? "No." That's what I thought. They are just as good as an official forum and the devs have posted at them numerous times so obviously they do care about what their fans would like to see.

Point 1, I give you www.camelotherald.com/index.shtml This little site here has more valuable information on it than WoW's site in it's entirety. On the Herald you can get full maps for all zones. Entire spell and style lists. Master Level information. Realm Abilities lists. Respec costs. Patch note archives. Guides to the various aspects. Server populations. Character information pages. Guild information pages. When I played DAoC, I was frequently visiting the Camelot Herald to get all kinds of information. And just putting up official forums doesn't make a community centralized. Honestly, how many players of a game even know official forums exist? It's always been a tiny minority of typically the loudest and most vocal. Putting up official forums does not instantly give you a centralized community.

Point 2, I direct you to here: support.darkageofcamelot.com/

Frequently updated, easily searchable and very categorized. Who needs a support forum when you have an easier to use Knowledge Base. Answer not in the knowledge base, then they have this page: www.darkageofcamelot.com/support.php listing all the ways to get in touch with the help you need. I've used it quite a few times when I played DAoC, always got what I needed quickly. And here is the Knowledge Base support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/

Point 3, Dev's don't care about player input and feedback? Really? Then why do they have www.camelotherald.com/feedback.php

It is far easier to provide quality feedback using a form that only internal Mythic employees will see rather than posting on a forum for everyone to see. You won't be flamed if you have controversial or highly unpopular suggestions. It's also far easier to keep track of and follow up with feedback submitted via a form such as this rather than trying to wade through hundreds or thousands of useless posts.

I'm sorry, I just don't see official forums being valuable.

Yes, there is another topic, oh well my bad.
    1) Forums don't represent the community.  Last stat I saw showed that less than 15% of the players actually post to the forums on average.  Forums are where a vocal minority go to bitch and moan about the most trivial crap they can think of and whine when their favorite cheese and nerfed.  There are plenty of good fan forums to serve this function - and the devs read and post to these forums.

    2) It is called a knowledge base, ingame tools and tech fan tech forums that tend to be more useful anyway

    3) No, shows that you have never watched fan forums where the devs not only read but respond to posts.

    1)  in game is the community. And other website do not stop this from forming.

    2)  Are there other support methods?  Give facts only.

    3) No it doesn't. That is YOUR spin on it.

Are you kidding me?  what the hell has official forums every done to help any one?  WOW forums sucks,  class discussion just has people crying their class sucks or some one else saying their to strong.  Realm forums was just their for trash talking other people on the server.  General just had people crying about every thing.  Official forums dont help the game devolpers or the people playing the games.

Use fansites.  War-rvr.net is a great one.  great community and doesnt have the BS crap you get with official forums.

This will be fine. I played GW for 2 years without forums and it was perfectly fine. There were lots of populated fan site forums that had direct links from the official site. Honestly, it'll just keep more spammers and generally annoying people from the forums (although each site will get its fair share). The only bad thing is maybe a less centralized place for players to gather but a select few sites will emerge as the most popular and people will congregate so it shouldn't be much of a problem.

In the end, logic and reason always beat out fanboys.

This post wins the thread hands down.

IT completely negates everything negative people state about Mythic not using official forums.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

The AoC trolls are grasping at straws with this one. Mythic was always active with their playbase posting on many fan sites wich imo improved the comunity. Just take WoW for ex: utterly useless for the most part, devs if they even post get drowned out with all the whines and complaing. Anyone thats new asking a question or looking for help will be called n00b or whatnot. Like i said in another post, it worked for DAoC and the VN boards, it will surely work with WAR and whatever those "unofficall' boards become (maybe warhammeralliance)
