Another Asian-grind fest?

Err this Topic is getting really....Well off Topic :P....

Lineage 2 takes the traditional fantasy, while obviously a bit over the top...

Aion is a bit more Dream-Like..something different....

I tend to perfer an anime inspired character design AS LONG AS it's done well..Asian Developers have kind of carved themselves into a hole with their past obsession with long ridiculous grinds, lack of a story, and such...This game is taking the artistic style...(cosmeticaly) And the game mechanics of a western built game....And that's why I really want to try it out.

As for dissing games such as WoW (While I think WoW is boring, anymore.) And LOTRO (Which I play and actually enjoy...Alot...) Let's try and save that for another topic, please :). It's all about what somebody perfers in a game. The developers of this game have paid an immense amount of attention to detail with Aion. Everything from asthetics, to Lore....And they communicate it in-game, so you take part in what's taking place, which I appreciate. I think it would be wise to do research on the game, and maybe even try it when it's available in some form, before dissing it entirely. :) That's just my 2 cents.

Just wait till beta and see. Still this game has a high chance to be a grind fest since NCsoft fail at games and Koreans didn't make any non-grind game, for me it's just hardcore combo. Since RF, ArchLord, Cabal, LA2 and other games were grind-fests this game can be like those ones.

Just wait and see, can't really judge by it look.

yeah NCsoft only made 2 MMO's, both of which had millions of subscribers. They sure failt at games /sarcasm.

NCsoft has already confirmed they are NOT going after the traditional MMORPG model. COmparing it to RF AL, Cabal and all the other games you mentioned is just ignorant.

There is absolutely no reason to assume oh its asian = grind. you ever played Everquest or Vanguard? Probably not.

Yeah, eq is grind game, Vanguard can't be played just because it's too laggy and fast placed game.

Your brain is your friend, try to use it sometimes, NCsoft made LA, LA2, GW, CoH/V, AutoAssault. It's doesn't matter who is the developer, they own these games therefore responsible for them.

GW is still alive because it has no monthy fee, LA2 is barely alive, didn't see a lot of ppl playing it, CoH/V are the only good things from NCsoft, AutoAssault was closed because no one wanted to play this game. Alos a lot, I mean alot of people not satisfied of Tabula Rasa since NCsoft going to release it soon, this game lacks content and other things.

Nice to see you just noticed, really, good progress.

Sure I'm interested, I'd like to see a good game. The more I learn about this game the more I start doubting about it.

Auto assault was more an experiment... I think they knew it wasn't going to last (looking at the modest amounts of advertisement). Lineage/L2 are both big in korea, even if they never worked well here. They were designed exclusively for a korean market, afterall. Unlike Aion.. I can't say anything about city of heroes, because in all honesty I agree it's crap.  I *do* think it's important to see the difference between who is developing and who is publishing. While not all ncsoft games are successes, all studio 5 (devteam in koera) have been, all arenanet (guildwars) have been - guildwars 2 seems to be anticipated too!

anyway, waiting and seeing is always best. As long as nobody entirely discards Aion as "totally uninteresting" or hypes it 1 for the same reason..

I'm glad you read my post, unlike others which think (since they don't read) I'm saying Aion is crap. I didn't say that, It has just a high possibility to be a crap since koreans didn't make any good game right now.

Hoping this game will be not like LA, GW, TR and others since developed is not NC.

edit: I don't think Auto Assault was an experimens because this should mean they just threw out lots of money. I don't think they had intention to waste money for nothing.

Wow, you REALLY have no idea what you are talking.  NCsoft is NOT responsible for the content of those games, NCsoft is the PUBLISHER, not the DEVELOPER of the vast majority of games you mentioned, There is a huge difference. they barely do anything in terms of development. Lineage 2 is barely alive? The latest report is that Lineage 2 NA has over 100k subscribers. Worldwide, Lineage 2 has over 1 million subscribers. Yeah thats barely alive /sarcasm.

Its rediculous. Its like saying "Chance is big Age of Conan will be like Everquest, because its from a western developer", despite the fact you can actually look up the info that has been released about the game.

Go do some research first before you post.

The only difference is that up until now, Asians have not really tried anything different, they've just been handing out the same crap (albeit, with small upgrades, like a bunch of crappy quests for their grinds, though usually just for a small reward and no xp) for years and years and expecting people to play it. However, people always do, so of course they'd keep it up. People shouldn't blame it on the developers themselves for becoming stale with their games, as it's the player's fault for supporting them so much.

Now they're finally catching on and someone is finally trying some new stuff over there. I think it'll go over very well, and asian MMO's from here on out could be changed forever.

    ... Or not. Who knows?

Actually, they have. Lineage 2 was new for its time, just like Ragnarok Online was. Granado Espada, same thing.

the problem is that MMO's in Asia are like beat em ups in the mid '90's, or First Person Shooters today, everyone jumps on the bandwagon and wants a piece of the pie. This leads to an ocean of clones and low budget games. But that does not take away that there are high budget pearls around, such as games like Half Life 2. the same goes for asian MMO's.

I am attracted to its eastern style and look forward to playing it soon.

There are many free MMORPGs which are free to play, but aren't placed on top 10 list like guildwars.

    Anyway,

I think that Aion's gonna be a good game.

  • SmackrSmackr Member Posts: 56

I also like the "eastern-dreamworld" style and the beautiful gfx. I'm going to give this game a try even that I don't know very much about what centric the game has. Have heard rumors that it will have rvr. Any one who knows (think I should start to research a little more on this game so I know what I'm talking about. tihi)

Well we know now for sure its not going to be another korean-grind-fest, and also its fun to see what people said before they looked for more info about the game just trolling around.

  • madeuxmadeux Member Posts: 1,786

I love the visual style of Aion, I was really able to get into the lore, and for the first time years I was able to get lost in an MMO.

It may not be what everyone out there is looking for, but I had a hell of a good time playing it this weekend.
