Lotro a great mmo with great potential but will never be a WoW killer.

I think turbine has done great by making another alternative for those that dont like the cartoony world that is WoW. A realistic graphical WoW would of never worked WoW is best the way it is. Though ifind LOTRO to be a great alternative of being bored wit WoW and it has tons of potential, with added housing and much more and non stop content and soon end game content i think LOTRO will be right up there and even maybe surpass EQ2.

Lotro does not have non stop content. Developers can't get new content faster then players can play through.

Thats true, it wont be a WoW killer because most WoW players dont even know any other MMO's exist lol

People need to quit worrying about a WoW killer. WoW is doing a fine job killing itself.

Can we please stop comparing games?

The only people that care about these comparison threads are the people that are more concerned with what is popular instead of having an oppinion for themselves.

At no point was Turbine ever trying to make a "WoW killer" out of LOTRO.

And as was posted above, Blizz is doing a fine job of slowly killing WoW by themselves with their recent expansion announcement.

ROFL the ratings here are as worthless as a paper house in a hurricane.

EDIT: Yep gpett hit the nail on the head there.

The ratings here are based on player opinions and what they like, personally I do think number 2 is a good spot for LOTRO in the ratings, the only person who wouldn't like LOTRO would be a person who loves to grief people or likes world PvP, as that lotro doesn't offer.

Um actually the ratings are worthless...WOW is only low here because it is the biggest game out there, and people like to poop on the big guy.. they get bored and rate the game down. Lots of players = lots of ratings good and bad. Remember back when EVE was #1? I have yet to meet someone in real life who plays EVE. Its just biased, and doesn't fit the mainstream gamers.. nor do they take into account good and bad reviews of games.

The majority of people who play MMO's never even come to this site.. they are busy playing their game. How can that be considered accurate?

All the games on the high list are boring to me now including WOW but I am not an immature kiddie who will rate down a game because I am bored of it, like a lot of people are.

Noone I know has stuck with LOTRO, my entire guild which was number one on our server quit due to boredom.. most people get to 50 and quit, if LOTRO is doing so well why are they sending me emails to come back and offering a free month

    Reminds me of DDO :p

Until companies "give away" the game in Asia like Blizzard does they will never meet the same "numbers" wow does.

WoW will fade just like every other MMO has in the past.

LOTRO is a good game, or maybe a great game if pve is your thing and youre really into the lore.  But, for some of us its just too much of the same old thing.

Non of these mmos (LOTRO, WAR, AOC, TR) is a WOW killer, but theyre all gonna take their slice of the WOW pie...

100% agreed, though im not much of a PvE or Lore fan, some how I still enjoy LOTRO  Maybe because there's no other alternative available at the moment...

Yeah, but what game does?  (esp if they are PVE focused) Players always manage to burn through the content faster than it can be released, unless you're on an open ended game like EVE.

Yeah!  WoW only has 9 million subscribers worldwide!

LOTRO is a niche game.  It does not have the potential to overpower any game coming out.  Many types of gamers (hardcore content eaters, pvpers) find the content to be dissatisfying.

I will not go as far as to say that the game is not good.  I think many who play it have very great things to say about it.

Also, I think most LOTROs are glad that the game is not popular amongst crowds of certain types.

Does it really matter? Just play the game you like tbh and FYI no game will have the potential to beat WOW's subscriber base in the western world apart from already known big franchises like StarCraft or Halo or Half-Life etc etc.

I suppose it doesn't.  I guess people are looking for a game, or claim to have found a game which could beat WoW's juggernaut.  I am happy with WoW (incoming flames!), but I do understand and sometimes become marred by the facts which players use against WoW.

Personally I think WoW is a fluke in the genre.  I know I will be moving to WARHAMMER once it comes out, or I get in the beta.  The game looks very good, and has many fundamental differences from WoW which will make it the WoW-killer for me.

  • TatumTatum Member Posts: 1,153

Id rather not see an MMO that has the potential to replace WOW.  Why?  Because the genre needs more innovation and diversity, not 50 MMOs all trying to copy the big guy.

Depends on how much time you have to play I guess. I'm a casual player and my highest character is lvl 32. I haven't even made it to Evendim yet. Been playing since open beta too. For me personally they are putting out new content faster than I can get to it, which makes me quite happy with the game.

Glowlight made a valid argument. The ratings here only represent the people visiting mmorpg.com and not every single person playing a certain game. Considering the fact that these forums are full of people who are trying their best to beat down any game except the ones they are supporing, one can indeed say that the ratings here can not be brought into a discussion as a argument to prove game A is better then game B.

And btw,  glowlight never insulted anyone in his post and made a reasonable argument. You on the other hand started making personal insults to him. To me, you seem to be a hell-of-a-lot more kiddie then glowlight will ever be

It makes me laugh a lot with how many people compare everything to world of warcraft.  In all honesty everyone who talks bad about wow has in the past played it for a long time.  If they havnt played it for a long time, they were prolly anti social retards who could not make any friends and could not do anything fun in wow.  The problem is with people, they all want to tear down wow for no good reason.  WoW is a good online game, and it will always have people playing it.  Sure, one day it wont be on the top but that doesnt mean it has been "Killed".

I just dont understand why everyone wants to see it die.  For me, I hope it stays on the top untill a better game really does come and tear it down.  Because of WoW many people are going to be developing new ideas and types of games for us to play!  Big money is what MMOs are offering to companies and many people are finnaly seeing that because of WoW.  I just think the person who made this tab is a moron because why compare it to WoW?  What does it accomplish?  LOTRO is a good game, and I am currently playing it right now.  Does that mean since I am playing this game I want it to kill WoW?  Not really.  90% of the WoW community talk like this, "I just pawned that noob fag in his FACE!".  They are always fighting and bickering about how their character is better.  Do you really want that type of person in LOTRO?

So far all I have noticed in LOTRO are nice people.  I am sure I will encounter people who are annoying and remind me of most the people on world of warcraft, but that is expected.  The thing is, everyone needs to look at the good things WoW has brought us instead of how you want to kill it.  I hope in the future there is a better game than WoW, and I really hope to be playing it.  But untill then, I will just be bored playing other new mmos coming out and prolly end up back playing WoW again.

Most people on this forum havent even played wow, they just want to be "special and different" and rate down the game everyone else like.
