So... Is EQ still there?

michaeld733michaeld733 Member Posts: 13

I loved EQ in the pre-luclin days, absolutely loved every bit of it.. I would come back but I know if I ever came back I would be lost and that the commonlands would be empty.. Anyways, hows the population and did the game kill itself like Ultima Online?

Yes it's still going relatively strong. Not much of a newbie population (which is not surprising considerng how little effort Sony commits to marketing it) but it's now at like 13 expansion with another do in November. They are switching to a yearly expansion cycle mainly do to community feedback over frustration at the lack of polish on content created by the 2/year expansion cycle.

EQ is going strong, specially if you go to a more populated server like Stromm.

The good old days of EQ were amazing.....i almost didnt graduate highschool because of it, and i loved it. Well, those days are gone.....there are tons of ppl playing still, but no one is at the commonlands, or at Oasis hunting crocs ( that zone has been renamed South Ro ) no one at the orc highway, no one at the aviak penthouse in the Karanas.

Sony came out with this hot spot thing, where you get extra exp for playing in certain zones, in an atempt to bring players together, since the world is so huge, and it works. You can still find groups, and it is still a fun game. I play on Stromm, I am a mage lvl 64, and I never have trouble finding groups.

    good luck!!

I remember when Luclin came out Paludal Caverns was THE place to be for exp bonus.  It was a wonderful hotspot, and combined with my Halfling exp bonus, and then my rogue exp bonus...its was lots of fun.  Hah, I also remember the random chain shaking noises and stuff that didn't seem to fit.  Ah.  Sorry, got lost in some good old nostalgia there.

I just started up again after roughly 3 years....just started brand new on the Stromm server.  Populations on this server seem realtive healthy.

Are you in a guild? Are there people at the lower levels to group with? I've desperately been wanting to come back but I'm holding on until they hopefully make another progression or classic server.

i thought about returning just to mess around but then i found out my sever was gone.  i found out it got merged with another server and they got to keep their name. i still have the FV statue on my desk but never did finish re-installing.

I recently came back to EQ1, I quit back when Gates of Discord came out and Uqua was an unbalanced wreck.  They have made some really nice changes to the game, they are actually starting to improve on what has been there for a while such as improving graphics in the old world zones.  People do actually play the game quite a bit from what I can see, remember back in the day when everyone 30-40 went to overthere & 40-50 went to dreadlands? well its pretty much the same thing but instead of going to dense mob area's they go to hotspots.  I been logging on at different times everyday for a week and there have always been between two and three groups in the newbie hotzones.  I'm having a blast.

Everquest is still the best imho.  Tons of content and lots of challenge.  Try the Zek (PvP) server for an even greater challenge!
