Wild West Online! (new mmorpg in development)

I found a new game, hope nobody has posted this before xD

http://www.wildwestonline.com/

sry no screenshot yet

but here is the concept art

Description:

Tenderfoot Games™ announces that it will publish Wild West Online™, the first massively multiplayer game set in the rough and tumble American Wild West.

Wild West Online™ will capture the authentic feel of the Wild West with numerous scenarios based on history and fiction. Players will experience intense situations reminiscent of famous stories including corral shootouts, bank and stage robberies, bounty hunting quests and easily recognizable set scenarios inspired by sources like “The Magnificent Seven”, “High Noon” and “Tombstone.”

Players will be able to have showdowns — tension filled mano-a-mano contests between gunfighters that will have a higher level of adrenaline than an open gunfight. They will also be able to join gangs, form posses, hunt, explore and play in highly crafted environments that will provide an authentic open range feel. Wild West Online™ will also support a robust and exciting economy with players having the option to purchase objects, skills, and abilities otherwise only accessible through game play.

Wild West Online™ will be faithful to the Western mystique we all grew up with as kids,” said Mike Reynolds, game designer at Tenderfoot Games. “The American frontier culture is an important part of our history, so we are working hard to re-create that atmosphere and to honor the mythology from which so many modern fiction settings drew inspiration.”

    It's spelt "Norris."

I'll raise you that Chuck with a Lee Van Cleef.  But on the subject of the game, I'm hoping it's not going to be a rehashed "hand-holder," which seems to be the popular way to go.

I wonder if that means purchase as with real money? It sure sounds like it does.

I've never played one of these type games before (similar to the system Roma Victor uses?), but then again, I've never heard of objects or skills being sold for real money either. Just in game gold. Anyway..., I'm always willing to take a look at a MMORPG when it gets released. Until then I just don't get too excited about anything anymore.

I would love to see a Wild West MMORPG. All skill driven with title unlocking once you had the right skills.

Example: You unlock 10 Rifle skills, you get the Pony Express Title. Or you unlock 10 pistol skills , your a Gunfighter.

Or you unlock 10 Whore skills, well your a whore. You get where I am going with this?

Seriously, I would love to see this. I think the only draw back, would be kids wanting to play it. My son is 6 and Call of Juarez is one of his favorites.

Who could pass up cowboys and indians?

Definately needs to have FPS Controls.

  • solarinesolarine Member Posts: 1,203

LucasArts' Outlaws was one of the most entertaining FPS games I have ever played. Since then, I always thought a MMORPG in a western setting would be cool. Though I have to agree this begs for some juicy sandbox elements and solid crafting.

Incidentally, I would not mind being a wagonmaster myself

This game has RMT and offline shops for game items that is a total con IMO!!  and anyone supporting out of game purchase shops is a fool.

Well Frontier 1859 is still in the paper and pencil mode while it waits for angels to invest in the project.

Wild west Online claims that it with have part of its combat system up and running by this December as a free to play demo of the bigger MMO game that they are developing.

Time will tell, but here is another article on them that I found.

Tenderfoot Games Announces the Development of Wild West Online

Tenderfoot Games announces development of "Wild West Online" a Massively Multiplayer Game.

today that it is developing the world's first Massively Multiplayer Online Game based in the American west of the 1880s. Players will be able to create their own Wild West mythology using a wide array of realistic settings, goods, and weapons.

Wild West Online (wildwestonline.com) will appeal to a diverse player base, with a strong focus on accessibility to mainstream consumers who may never have played an online MMO before. Wild West Online will attract a range of players, from aficionados of Westerns who have long dreamt of immersing themselves in the old west, to those who simply want a good shootout. Game settings range from frontier camps on the edge of civilization, to prosperously growing towns and cities.

The game will feature scenarios based on history and myth, permanent and pick-up teams seeking wealth and notoriety, as well as solo play for lone wolves seeking individual fame. Players can advance their abilities to open up new game play options. They can buy goods, important objects and, with them, new skills and abilities.

Wild West Online is due to launch in the fourth quarter of 2008.

This December, Tenderfoot Games will release "Wild West Online: Gunfighter," a free single player or multiplayer online game that will introduce one of the elements of Wild West Online--the classic showdown-at-high-noon that has always been an exciting element of Western fiction. Wild West Online: Gunfighter is designed to appeal to players seeking to become the Bill Hickocks, Wyatt Earps, or the Doc Hollidays of the online world.

Wild West Online: Gunfighter will offer budding shootists the opportunity to develop their skills, abilities, and their distinctive look and style. Players will be able to duel each other in a player-versus-player game that is easy to learn, but offers surprising depth of play. "Gunfighter" features dozens of classic encounter locations from both fiction and cinema.

I wonder if PVE will be killing Indians.  Maybe you can play an Indian and kill settlers!  Hows that for some faction based PVP?!?!

Of course, we all know how the story ends up....
