Therefore, I am going to post my experiences with Vanguard because I am not afraid of the haters.  I could careless how much you hate me for enjoying a game.

First a little bit of history about myself and Vanguard:
I was a guild leader in the beta of Vanguard, and the game ran like pure junk.  Seriously.  The beta was the single most demoralizing blow the game could have ever gone through.  My complete guild left the beta quickly, and went back to playing their old games (WoW, EQ2, and EQ1).  I was literally left with a bunch of beta accounts because I was the last one left playing from my guild.  I have been playing EQ1 for many, many years, so needless to say I was angry with Brad and company.  I felt like they had let me down.  So many of us Brad fans had everything riding on this game, and in the end the beta left many of us with a seriously bad taste in our mouths.  I pretty much came to the conclussion that Vanguard was not going to make it, and I hung my head and walked away.
About a month ago I got curious as to how SoE might have changed Vanguard, so I started reading up on their forums.  Some of the changes they had made intrigued me, so I started asking around in EQ2 (the current game I was playing at the time) to see if anybody had a buddy key for Vanguard that I could have.  I got bashed for even mentioning Vanguard because there were so many Vanguard haters in EQ2, but eventually a nice person sent me a tell saying that they had a buddy key I could use.  They admitted that they was willing to defend the game in public chat because of how many people openly hate on the game.  I thanked the individual and promptly logged off to go use my buddy key.
The download of Vanguard and patch that followed ended up taking all night and part of the next day.  Yeah.  It was agonizing to say the least.  But, it was worth it for me.  I was highly suprised to see how much better the game ran compared to how it was in beta.  Clearly SoE had put the time and effort in to reviving this game.  And, the best news of all was that SoE was still working on it, and is planning a relaunch of the game later this year.  That gave me a lot of hope for the game because it showed that SoE had not abondoned the game.  They are actually making an effort to right all the wrongs.
I currenly really enjoy playing Vanguard.  My brother and I group together on a regular basis, and find the game to be a lot like our old EQ1 experiences because the combat system feels more open-ended.  Things like locked encounters and forced encounter sizes in EQ2 detracted a lot from the game in my opinion.  Those kinds of things don't exist in Vanguard.  If you want to try to solo pull a mob in Vanguard you can do it.  Try that in EQ2, and the mob pulls out a cell phone, calls their buddies on the other side of the zone, and promptly they come running to gang-bang you.
Does Vanguard still have bugs?  Yes.  Hell yes it does.  There are memory leaks, and there are a lot of video issues still.  But, it's nothing that an occasional /flush wont fix.  Basically, I created a macro key for /flush, and when a window messes up, I hit that key.  I know that some day SoE will get most of the bugs killed, and I won't have to use my /flush, but I would rether be inconvienced by some video issues then play a mind numbingly shallow game like WoW anymore.
Plus... I am biased to the way that the ranger class is implemented in Vanguard.  Personally, I think that the Vanguard Ranger is the best implementation of the traditional high-fantasy novel ranger of any MMORPG in production.  When I play my Vanguard Ranger, I truely feel heroic rether then just some extra person in the group that shoots arrows.
Ok.  So, that's my experience.  Feel free to hate me.  It wont change my opinion of the game.

"I used to HATE it"?  I call foul!

Dude, in every single one of your previous 25 posts you're just about on your knees orally gratifying the game that is VG.  Sorry but your  credibility is shot.

But keep trying you might get a few new people in a ghost town of a game called Vanguard

Nice attempt to create hate, but you fail.  I hated Vanguard so much that I got myself banned from the beta.  Yep.

As usual, you are just another Vanguard hater looking to discredit anybody that does not agree with you.

By the way, I just wanted to point out that people like Ebonhawk ARE why people that like Vanguard typically do not post on forums.  They know that someone like Ebonhawk will come along and flame them.  Proof of this can be seen in the fact that on forums, you see more haters then likers, and in-game you see more likers then haters.  Funny how that works isn't it.  The haters don't actually play the games they hate, but yet they haunt the forums to bash anybody that dares admit they like the game.

I liked vanguard for what it could be and saw around the glaring issues in beta. It got to be too much come February - march and I canceled. When they launched Game Update 2 the other day the game is much, much better. I also got a new computer to play it in its full glory and it makes a crazy difference, no CTD, no lag, no hitching, no FPS drop, nada. All in all I am now having a GREAT time in Vanguard now.

    ----------------------
Played (In order of favorite first to least): DAOC, EQ2, EVE, WOW, Vanguard, AC2, City of __, Guild Wars, LOTRO, EQ, Sword of New World, FFXI, Lineage 2, Second Life, DDO, Anarchy Online, RF Online, Archlord, Uru, Ragnarok Online, Shadowbane, Planetside, Auto Assault, Ryzom, Matrix Online, Horizons, Entropia, Sims, Runescape, Lineage 1, AC1, Dungeon Runners

I was super excited for Vanguard to say the least..until I got into beta.  I played it until beta closed, canceled my preorder and gave up hope.  All the things I have read lately are very promising though, imo.  I'm planning on giving it a bit of time before I purchase and give it a shot again.  BUT, if anyone has a spare buddy key lying around, shoot me a pm, I'd be glad to give it a go again now, cause WoW sure as hell aint keeping me busy, lol.  :D

It's the weekend how can I not be cheery

Seriously though I don't hate VG, in fact I was looking at the box I purchased a few months back just the other night.  But you have to admit all the performance problems and the sparse population of the game, amongst others.

Post back on how the new update (#2 I think it is.) is going and let us know.  I only ask one thing...  Try and be objective.

Oh trust me, Vanguard is far from perfect haha... it has a long ways to go.  I have a macro key setup that does one thing... "/flush", and I use it everytime I open the map because my video goes crazy when I open the map.  Plus, the game does hitch on me a little, but it is minimal compared to how it was in beta.  In beta, the game was just completely unplayable for me and most of my guild.

And, after game update 2, there are still a lot of bugs, some hitching, and people still get CTD errors.  The thing is though, the number of people this is happening to is decreasing with each patch.  Game update 2 fixed a LOT of peoples issues to some extent.  Did the game get completely fixed?  Nope.  Not even close.  But, it's a lot better then it was when Sigil owned the game.  Game update 2 in my eyes was a huge success for SoE, and if anything it showed that they are making a real effort to fix the game.

The lack of population in game is discouraging.  Really I can totally understand why this factor would annoy people.  Now that being said, last night on the Florendyl server, I was playing my young dwarven paladin named Dunsquat.  When I checked to see how many people were in the dwarven newbie zone, there was 15 people.  It was rether shocking to see that because up until yesterday, at most I would see 3 people in the newbie zones when I am playing.  The general chat was pretty lively, and the game felt far from dead.  I think that the server merges will go a long way to pumping life back in to the game because quite simply put, the Vanguard world is just too large to have so many servers.  It is real easy to find yourself the only person in a zone when realize just how many HUGE zones there are in Vanguard.  With low population on a server, that feeling of loneliness gets maginified greatly due to the sheer size of the Vanguard world.

Anyways, there are still people with computers that refuse to play the game even though they have up to date high end computer equipment, and I truely feel sorry for these people.  For the rest of us, the game is actually a lot of fun.  I hope SoE continues in the path they have gone so far cause the future looks pretty good for Vanguard right now imo.

Well, I love the hell out of the game.  I think hands down Vanguard has the best PvE combat, and is one of the main reasons I play this game over all of my other options.
