UPS Blows hard

SpathotanSpathotan Member Posts: 3,928

Over the years, 95% of the time when I order something, its sent to me via UPS, Amazon uses USPS for small items (DVDs/games), Newegg has UPS and Fedex, but purposely raises the rates for Fedex shipping by more than 100% due to a contract with UPS, and ZipZoomFly uses FedEx, which is free and quick. Now, to the point....

As many of you know from my other post, my PS3 died. I called Sony that Saturday night and got the report in and they are sending me the box to ship it back to them. Monday I get a tracking info email from them via UPS, scheduled delivery date is Friday, cheap shits give me ground shipping for a $500 piece of hardware. I check today, whats happened, recheduled/delayed til Monday, bullshit.

I ordered a few things for my wife's birthday from Amazon, shipping is UPS. Her birthday is tomorrow and ill be lucky if she gets it. I ordered the stuff last thursday, I check the tracking, whats happened, recheduled/delayed, bullshit.

My wife ordered a few movies from Amazon, shipping is UPS. She ordered them last week, wednsday I think. She checked the tracking 2 days ago, whats happened, recheduled/delayed, wont get them till thursday at best, bullshit.

More and more bullshit, left and right, up and down. If you pay for the fucking service, you should get the service.

Did you miss the delivery? The date on the tracking site is always right for me. Usually I'm not here to sign for it though.

No, thats the thing. Its UPS shit-ass-ness, none of the packages were even halfway to the destination when they were taged recheduled/delayed.

    That sucks.

However, to be honest, all private delivery services (UPS, DHL, FedEx) suck ass. Its just what they do and how they do it that makes it so fault-worthy. Its a serious problem you have to face when ushering out millions of packages. Personally, I have had way more problems with FedEx than UPS or DHL but still, to this day, my preferred method of mail or package delivery is USPS. Why? Because they aren't in such a rush to get the package to you that they lose it in the process. It may take a few extra days to get to you, but in all my years of packaging, shipping, and receiving I have only had one mis-hap from them. (Same goes with all government mail services)

There is a larger non-monetary price involved with the speedy delivery services, its a shame not all shipping companies gove you the option of using the USPS.

    Eternally mine,

They probably just shipped the package past the 4pm release period and it slipped into the Saturday drive period. If the package is being sent ground it will sit there until monday because they dont move grounds during the weekends hehe. I worked in a shipping department and had this happen quite a lot to my clients. Fairly typical for all shipping companies though. Unless you hire a private shipper which I have on occasion and that costs a arm and a leg.

    Spath,

I feel you. I get deliveries from UPS all the time and I am ALWAYS home when they are "Out for devliery". I would say 4 out of 10 times they give me the "Recipient was unable to sign for package" crap when I was sitting 4 feet from the front door all day. 3 out of the 6 times they DO deliver the package the just drop it on the side of my house instead of actually bringing it to my front door. Many times the packages being delivered are several $100 worth of equipment, but UPS sees fit to toss it where no one can see it. Thankfully all my neighbors know that if you touch my stuff I will happily mount you head on a pike in my front lawn...and no, I will not get the Home Owners Association's approval before doing so.

Hell, when I had my desktop delivered around Christmas they screwed up. I had noted that it was "out for deliver" earlier in the day. I know UPS hits my house around 4pm, as I am near the end of their business hour route. Where I live there is a gate at the end of our street that is permanently locked now and there is another gated entrance at the front of the housing track. The locked gate specifically says "Entrance on Marylin Monroe St." Well, around 4ish the power went out for several blocks around my house. So, I popped open the garage door and say in my lawn chair there waiting for UPS (the back of the houses are what actually face the street here). I sat an gibbered with my neighbors about various things: weather, cars, music, heads on pikes...the usual neighbory things. I actually watched UPS drive up to the permanetly locked gate and promptly turn around and leave (as opposed to reading the sign). Now, you might be asking "Well maybe he tried to come in the gated entrace but since the power was off the gate wouldn't open, right?". No, as soon as the power went out I went over and kicked that gate open because I knew my girlfriend wouldn't be able to get into the neighborhood and park in the garage. So that gate was sitting wide open (and somewhat broken) the entire night.

Long story short, the power comes back on around 7pm (which left me without a phone because I have Vonage). I log in to track and see the "Recipient was unavailable to sign for the package" crap. I called UPS and informed them that their driver never ATTEMPTED to get me to sign for anything. I also informed them that maybe they need to put in "Jacktard driver doesn't like reading signs or feel like earning their hourly wages" as an option rather than having them default to a blatant lie. The gal on the phone didn't know what to say to that...

FedEx on the other hand ALWAYS comes to my door, knocks twice, rings twice, and if I do not get to the door in time gently places the package hidden around the corner of the door which opens to my sliding glass doors. UPS needs to die as a business...period.

Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

my box is coming from UPS as well, it's almost humorous how long this is taking

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

FedEx and DHL are ontop of shit, FedEx if you want quality, DHL for speed. UPS kicked a bigass hole in the side of my PC case box, and yes, dented the side door to it. Ive also gotten a $400 video card by them and the box has a hole in the corner with foam falling out of it.

Anyways I got some somewhat good news, found out from the playstation forums, the box I get for the PS3 return comes wiht a next day air pre-paid label, not ground like I though. And Sony will ship the PS3 back to me either via 3 day service or overnight.

Hmm i have never had a problem with UPS, but i usually get that 3day UPS delivery thing too and it always comes in on time with no delays and no dents or scratches on the boxes... Personally i like UPS, maybe the people in your area are just dicks and dont give a crap about other peoples mail

Yeah Amazon's shipping where you get it for free if you buy a certain amount of items is pretty slow. I usually spend the money on the standard shipping, which is much faster and usually less than $5.

Here's a short video in which Lee Evans describes the equivalent service in the UK. Something to make you smile while waiting for a package.

In my experiences DHL is the worst and FedEX is the best. Ive never used UPS.
