Hi, I am very much interested in CoH, but my brother has told me some rumors that have sort of pushed me away. He told me that CoH was like Phantasy Star Online, where you don't play in a massive world with thousands of people but rather you connect to game sessions with maybe 5-10 people. Is this true or is it like SWG or Runescape where the world is truly persistent and you actually play with thousands of others?

a little bit of both actually. the world is persistant and you can run around the city and see other "heros" going about their business. you can group with them, if you like, and enter combat in open areas of the game. however, most missions are instanced. meaning you enter the mission by yourself or with a team and you are the only ones who can enter that area (usually a warehouse or office building or something similar). personally, i like it since it eliminates kill stealing and campers in these areas.
