Are there any vids or pics for WAR that show it having the Warhammer feel and not just the table top game feel? Don't get me wrong I think they both will offer something new to the MMO gamer, feel that AoC is more immersing than WAR. Nothing to do with graphics mind you they both look good.

Um, your post is very strange and I'm not sure how to answer it... First of all yes there will obviously be an RPG aspect to it. Then you ask if there are videos that show it having the Warhammer feel and not just the table top game feel. I don't get this question. The table top game is Warhammer... WAR is based of the lore which originated from the table top games. They are inter-connected. As for videos, to me all of them depict a Warhammer feel and look.

No, the table top game isn't  Warhammer, it is simply one aspect of it. Warhammer has a long and rich story line and if you read the novels, WFRP, the other games GW created but no longer support and just the fluff in general the Warhammer world is Dark and full of fear. The Empire is rife with corruption and malignancy. Chaos creeps in from all directions while the Skaven burrow up from below. Are the Chaos cults a major issue or just a quest foot note ( Bob the Burgermeister  says "Go kill me 10 Chaos cultist that live in the sewer") or are they just going to be one more set of spear carriers. Maybe I am just looking for to much from any MMO but if you put Warhammer on the game I have certain expectations that I don't think WAR is going to live up to.

I am currently going with AoC, but there are a few things that would make me consider switching over:

    1. I have read the stickies and watched the video as well as reading the official FAQ (very standard for an MMO) but I have not seen significant evidence of an evolving PvE endgame. Yes they said they may have some major PvE encounters and what not, but that doesn't mean that they will add enough new content to keep the enthusiasts happy. I would just like to say that I enjoy PvE and PvP equally and that playing a game without one of those factors is really means you are only playing half a game. I need to have both to be held (This is a major reason AoC will be such a strong pick for me, although not the only one).

    2. The combat looks slow from the videos I have seen. I don't mean that it takes for ever to kill someone (I don't care about that), I mean it looks like you swing your weapon and you stand around for 2-3 seconds before you swing again. If you really need the cool down to be that long can't you change the animation so it fills that gap? EX: You swing your giant two hammer and it smashes into the ground, you than have to pull it out and get back into an attack position before you immediately swing again, or maybe you spin in a circle because you put so much moment into your swing (Make at least a few animation per weapon speed so it does look repetitive). This would be opposed to swinging your hammer, pulling it back up and standing around for 2-3 seconds before you repeat the exact same thing.

    3. This isn't the biggest issue and really doesn't matter, but I just can't get past how the Greenskins look. It just looks ridiculous. Other than that, graphics do look a bit like WoW (there is no denying that,). I will say that they are improved from WoW and look better, but the art style is very similar, I also know that WoW is really just a copy of the Warhammer universe. Again, the graphics aren't my biggest concern.

    4. I have my concerns about this RvR system becoming unbalanced. Maybe I have missed some critical piece of information, but this really does look like the side that has the most players will be the dominant side. This can't really happen as there are no factions, it is all Guild vs Guild based. Alliances can form to solve any imbalance in player numbers. This is my largest fear with WAR.

I am sorry for the bad spelling in some places, normally I would paste a post this large into Word before posting but I have just built a new machine and havn't installed MS office yet :(

Will definitely play both these games, but I feel the longer lasting for me will be WAR. That may change after release of course

But that would require effort. I love these topics , especialy when neither are out yet or close to being out.

I hope you've been playing in beta to make a statement like that.  I'm not saying it's not possible that it could be the best MMO (definitely not the best game... lets be real)... but damn those videos are hurtin!

If you think you can wait you might as well.  Give it a little while for bug fixes, since possible bugs can ruin anyone's gaming experience.  Also if you do wait they may have the free trials and you can see which game you like without having to buy both of them.

Im going war, but thats just cause I'm a TT fan before I was a novel fan of the conan series. They both look very good though.

I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad, The dreams in which I'm dieing are the best I've ever had.

It would take almost as much effort as reading up on both the games and making your own choice.   It's so much easier to ask people to make up your mind for you

i haven't played AoC yet, and as many others we will probably chose between them after playing both... or getting hooked on one.

I heard AoC end game is like WoW with hardcore pve raiding to get the best gears.  No, thx.  Last thing I want is to pve to own pvp players.

    Completely wrong.

Quote from our developers on these very forums.

the vision for Conan was not to make a game for raiders. The visions for Conan were scenes from Braveheart and playing games like Dynasty Warriors, being badass, and reading the stories and comics. It was not a vision of 50 people fighting dragons.

Also, let it be known that while raiding grants you resources for you to craft great gear, owning a Battle Keep in the Border Kingdoms grants you access to resources that are better so you can craft even better gear. It is a PvP game with raiding thrown in to please raiders, but the Border Kingdoms is where the majority of the end game will happen.

  • To me that there is far more ominous than the announcement that AOC was delayed. Despite Gaute's damage control and veiled shot at WAR, fact is that Mythic is out doing gamedays and showing people there is an actual game and proceeeding smoothy with a closed beta. Meanwhile Eidos is welshing on Beta agreements. I think those who are expecting a smooth and polished AoC in March are going to be profoundly disappointed.

I'm waiting to see what AoC has to show at Liepzig this week.   They're making a big deal about it and they're saying they're going to show working PvP combat for the first time and, better yet, some of the guild vs guild mechanics.

The reviews from people who try the game there will go a long way to deciding whether folks need to be worried or not IMO.    I'll still make up my own mind about the game, but reviews by gamers who get to try the game are sometimes the best gauges of whether a game fits your own playstyle.

BTW - Which beta agreements were welshed upon?

  • Apparently Funcom is going to let people actually play the game at Leipzig instead of another "show". We'll see how that goes.
