I think the hero class deathknight is a very nice addition and a nice step to bringing hero classes to the game, the deathknight will not be the only hero class, we have far-seers, blademasters, acolytes, beastmasters etc.
I like the idea of deathknights because unlike the burning crusade deathknights will be able to interact and do the lich kings bidding. I think WoW is heading in a good direction. Every one thinks the DK will be overpowered but no one knows whats instore for the other 9 classes.

Deathknight seems like a knockoff of EQ's ShadowKnight. Also why will you be able to play as a Deathknight on Alliance and Horde. I thought Alliance was good and Horde was evil? As you can tell I don't play WoW so I was just curious.

I'm sure DK will be a fun class, and I like what they've said about them so far...but only releasing 1 hero class means there's going to be SWARMS of DKs running around like crazy. I really don't like playing the "This is the class everyone else is playing" class...so I probably wouldn't get into playing it personally though
Warcrafts deathknights have been around alot longer then EQs shadowknights.
First of all it seems you play a redeemed Death knight. you did the trick, you served the Scourge for XX time (and seemingly rised to level Xx in the meantime) and then managed to break free and return to your former comrades.
A bit cheesy maybe, but the forsaken are a handy precedent about this very thing.
so that is why you can play deathknight on horde and alliance (and btw, neither is "good" or "evil", they are more like nations, they cannot really be judged in those views as each and everyone of them has done something good, something bad and something ugly)
Second, I approve of the decision, infact this expansion seems to open the door to all the cool things that Blizzard wanted to place in the early release game and never did, ie: hero classes, siege engines and destructable buildings.
Took three years+, well, better than never.
And yes, Death knight sounds like a unique class, but not overpowered one. And I look forward to see the rest of them, lots of nice hero classes in warcraft 3.

So what are they fighting over? Maybe they should just be friends then.

horde is fighting for freedom, what the alliance is fight for i never really understood.
good vs evil is more about spirits and gods..
the evil is what both factions is fighting against in all the instances and stuff!

Basically both sides have good intentions, it's just that because of misunderstanding they think the other is evil. If I recall correctly, the Orcs were forced to fight the humans on behalf of the burning legion, and I guess other races picked which side they want to fight for.
Ally are evil cause their names are in red.. if its red its dead.
Guess this could go both ways if you are an ally, horde's names are red. But I like horde, die allies die.
ok if you were really to go along the lines of good vs evil then blizzard has folled alot of folks the pretty races arent the good guys
from what i undestand besides dwarves who are extremely greedy little drunkards the allience broke there treaty with the orcs and started the whole shooting match all overagain there was actually a truce at one point but after the orcs saved the human fort the humans turned ontop them as they went back home .
the night elves went against there own rules and greed cost them dearly
the gnomes built themselves out of a home
the humans are the traitorious race
the draine are on the wrong side because they too were fooled to believe that the allience was good.
and there main enemy was orc for so long they gravitated towerds allience
the horde side the trolls are truely first race of norrath and never liked anyone else period
the orcs , they were used
the undead were all races undead used
the tauren are very peaceful until you mess with there ju ju then they go ballistic and went and joined because orcs helped then kill the centaurs who were messing with them
imho you look at all the races and only 2 imho stand out as true heroic and honorable draeni and horde the rest are just as guilty in ruining the good vibes as every other one.
Some lead and some follow I prefer to stand beside!
Hmm. Interesting maybe I should give this game a try.

I think many people are pissed that they are just releasing one freaking Hero class... I lets imagine for a second taht in their last expansion they released just one new race (say the blood elfs) people would have been pissed at this as well..
At the very minimum they should be giving people 2 or 3 new hero classes... One is just freaking retarded, keep the deathnight in your pocket and pull it out when you have other hero classes to launch at the same time.

There won't be swarms of DKs running around because it takes a long level 80 quest chain to unlock the Deathknight class. So you won't start with it once you buy Wotlk.

Why is it retarded? If they released the Blood Elves alone then Alliance would not have gotten a class so yes people would have been mad. But both sides can play the DeathKnight so I don't see a problem with it.
First of all, the last thing WoW needs as a game is a new class, the current ones aren’t even balanced for an aspect of the game, and they don't even all have rolls, or have been pigeon holed into a single roll because that’s the only thing they are remotely good at and no one else wants to do it.
Secondly, what the hell is so 'heroic' about a deathknight? And having to do a quest before you can make one? And them, and all other ‘hero’ classes, being a completely separate character... The whole thing just stinks of another pointless grind designed to keep the kiddies happy and paying longer.
Man, I gotta start ignoring all things WoW before I get so worked up that I kill someone.
The classes need tweaking at the most, but they are pretty balanced. Classes are less pigeon holed into specs now than they were pre-BC and it's just betting better in Wotlk. A Warrior can be any spec and be viable in raids/groups/even PvP, so can many other classes.
The DeathKnight is a hero class because 1. It has to be unlockable. 2. It starts at between level 55-70 3. It's bases on the hero classes from Warcraft 3. Of course it's a completely seperate character, would you want your level 80 <whatever> that has amazing gear to suddenly turn into a DeathKnight with only newb gear?
number 1 the death knight has been around longer than eq's shadow knight
number 2 allience is good but horde isnt evil in warcaft lore the horde uost to be evil but are now just fighting to preserve their way of life most people mistake the horde for being evil because
number 1 their ugly exept blood elves
number 2 most people have seen lord of the rings and in that orcs are bad
Yes the classes are more balanced than they used to be, but it is still very clear that some class are just flat out better for certain things than others, which maybe ok if there were more roles than just Healer, Tank and DPS. While they may be less pigeon holed, they are still pigeon holed, and WoW is a very Min Max sort of game, your better off bringing a dedicated healer and a dedicated DPS than 2 half healers / half DPSers.
1. So? That just means you have to waste time leveling another character first... 2. Meh, considering 1., that most people would just do that in their sleep anyway, and that once you get to max level you can respec your DK to be just like anyone else’s DK, all it does is save you a week. 3. So? It's just a name.
No, I wouldn't want my mage to turn into a death knight with completely noob gear, I would want my mage to able to become a Battle Mage, or a Lich, or Arch Mage, something that would allow me to further customize and increase the power of my current character beyond just more levels; my character that already has trade skills at 375, an epic flaying mount, exalted with a number of factions, etc.
There are a number of ways they could have done hero class, and the one they have picked is just about worst way I can think of, but then it is the easiest for the devs and requires a lot of pointless grinding, and given their track record I shouldn't have expected any better.
what nations usually fight over for?So what are they fighting over? Maybe they should just be friends then.
1) land
2) money
3) fanatism.
Horde vs Alliance is all these things. Both have territories in the other "sphere of influence". for example, Kalimdor is more heavily horde dominated, but there is Theramore, an Alliance expedition fortress city right next to the barrens. They came there with Jaina to actually help fight Archimonde but they ain't leaving. attrition is sure to follow.
in Azeroth we have the whole Lordaeron kingdom, the biggest of the humans, now in ruin and populated by forsaken and Scourge alike. Can you blame Stormwing's knights to want it back? or the forsaken to tell them "go **** yourself?"
plus there are many factions not allied with either, but made up of one certain race. Scarlet Crusaders are fanatic humans that make basically impossible for the forsaken to even trust the humans again, even if they would want to, as these fanatics kill everything "non-human". in wetland, on the other hand, there is a tribe of rogue orcs making things difficult for the dwarves of the area... so
many conflicts... many old atreds... and a planet becoming smaller every day as the two factions expands.

The problem is not all classes will be able to be Deathnights.. So when Mages, locks (hell I dunno whatever classes don't get to be DK's) are on the boards crying and complaining their buts off because they don't have a hero class, don't wonder why.
And when they finally do release the other Hero classes and then DK's start complaining about how their class is not balanced to the other hero classes don't wonder about that either.
Blizzard should release all the Hero classes at one time not one at a time, they are just setting themselfs up for failure. But hell comming from the people that brought us the "Honor System" (/laff) it doesn't suprise me.

Heh, wow, you are so misinformed it's not even funny. EVERY CLASS CAN BE A DEATHKNIGHT. Blizzard has stated this, every class, every race. It's not related whatsoever to what your main class is. Once you unlock them via the quest, you go logout and make a new character and select Deathknight as the class.

True, but every play style can't be. If you are playing a mage and this comes out then you don't have an option that feels closer to your play style. Also the real problem is that if they release only one Hero Class then they are just asking for 50%+ of the population to go play one. Yes, I know, "It's going to be hard to unlock one." But it won't be. You have to get to level 80 and do one quest line. It's not like you have to go raid the Planes of Power and bring back the demonic shard to Sauron or anything. Also, I am a little worried about PvP balance. I am hoping that DK doesn't become an alpha class or else anyone who wants to PvP will have to play one and we'll see even more of them running around.
DKs are a melee/caster hybrid that can tank and dps. Think evil Paladin. That covers quite a few playstyles. And the thing is 50% of the population won't go reroll one, because first you have to get 80 first to do it, and why would you abandon your character you spent all that time into and leveled to 80 to reroll a deathknight? Not everyone is going to, just like not everyone rerolled Blood Elf or Draenei when they came out. It will be a hard quest but a doable one, has everyone done the Netherwing race quest? No, I've personally spent hours attempting it cause it's damn hard and yet to finish it.
PvP will be fine, you have to also look at the fact that all other old classes will be getting new spells and new talents, what's to say that the DK turns out to be underpowered to some of the newly beefed up old classes? We don't know, we'll have to wait and see when it comes out.

I'm just curious. I heard the rumor a while ago, but haven't been following it. Has it been confirmed or denyed that you will start a DK at a higher level like 60 or 70?
