--------------------> Would you like some cheese with that whine?
WWIIONLINE has the best PVP system. It works so well I HATE the other side. I even hate the player on a deep personal level.
Nothing grinds my gears more then listening to an "Allied" player gloat about winning a dogfight in their uber-turning Spitfire with game mechanics designed for turnfighting. Nothing makes me want to ring the neck of an "Allied" player more then listening them gloat about how they destroyed 10 of our paper-thin panzer tanks with an uber-armored Matilda.
The guy who griefed me in Eve Online. Never met him before. Never will meet him again. I was randomly ganked by a twinked out toon.
I played wwiionline for 4 years, I played Eve Online for a total of 3 months. I like real PvP, not GRIND--->TWINK--->GANK.

Now, boy is it a different story, most of the playerbase at the endgame and borred to tears. And for a noob, that is bad news.
all i see here is a bunch of whine and conjecture.
were you in low sec space? did you initiate contact with the the people that ganked you? did you contyact their corporation to find out their agenda?
if you were in NBSI space then you deserved to die. it is that simple.
your opinion is that you should have been warned, this is simply not true, there are places in eve where just being there is enough reason to shoot on sight. if you wanted out, then you are the one who needs to start the diplomatic dialogue.
so in the spirit of peopel still thinking of eve as click engage gusn go make coffee pvp this was 1 battle i was in a few weesk ago and remember as i am part of merc alliance known as Cruel Intentions we get fights like this every evening...
we were gang of 12 i think... were 8 were greyc (1 in covert frig, 1 dropped out before the fight due to director meeting, so actually jsut 6 in the fight) so i dont think we were more then 10 total active in gang when the fight started. this was the first time greyc members flown under CI banner in a more organized way since the move over ahd spread us out abit
we went up to pure space under Mich leadership (awesoem work yet again). i was dictor pilot adn assigend scout..
after awhile i see a retribution sitting at a gate. thinking this is an obvious trap but hey got speed fitted dictor i will be alright. retri jumped so did I. on the other side 13 hostile in local hostile bubble up SUPRISE!!.... not...
friendly gang 3 jumps out.
hostiles i got visual on:
1 sniper mega
1 domi close
1 phoon close
1 flycather
several assorted frig size targets
Total 13+
friendly
1 sabre
1 astarte
2 cerbs
atleast 1 vaga
1 cyclone
no friendly bs on our side.
total 9 fighting ships no BS one covert scout
I break cloak hits mwd speed reaches slightly under 6k today, no gistii booster.. i quickly check the speed on the other frig size ships. evaluate that no one can match my speed.
i report hostile numbers and ship types as i turn aroudn 200km out from gate.. friendly gang 2 jumps out. as i cirkle i see the local rising hm 16 in local.. we can still match that i get order to warp to gate from my orbit range drop bubble and jump while the friendlies jump in.
hit warp. as i start to warp i see the hostile dictor dropping a bubble. ooh noes will i get trapped in it.. no phew in teh clear i warped before bubble went up. as i warp to the gate and my gang jumps in i glance and see local rising even more and 5 ships or so dropping out of warp at the gate. total hostiles reaching 20+
as i hit jump on the gate i have to make a hard choice. should i tell my gang on ts taht new hostile has arrived or shut up and dont intefere teh gang leader and the target calling.
I decide the numbers as still managable and causing panic and intefering the gang leader isnt worth it. it would prolly cause chaos and panic warp outs leaving easy targets for the enemies.
as i get out from the other side of the gate i hear the gang leader ordering hold cloak. i reapproach the gate and jump back as the fight start.
I look over the cruiser size targets and checks that no rapier or huginn is amongsht the hostile. i can freely go smack into the blob with my sabre and if i get webbed i can brake orbit.
teh gangleader reports him being jammed. teh vaga pilots and me swiftly locate the lachesis and arazu.. damn were did they come from.. they are swiflty taken care of while a secondary target caller takes over within seconds after main caller gets jammed. pop pop ew dead.. someone says on ts that they cant warp out due to beign tackled by a retribution. being in a sabre i do crap damage on primaries so i decide i will clear the field of hostile tacklers so our guys can freely warp out.
a few frigs later i realize that damn sniper mega been untouched the whole fight and still sniping at our gang even if i cant take him down by my self i can atleast get him to warp out. hit mwd as i see the few remaining hostile warping out we get order to spread our points 60km from mega and closing.. he warps damn..
ooh left over domi still taking a beating lets go in and help kill it. as i start to shoot at him i realize i know the pilot.. damn this is an ex-norad guy i know and have flown with for well over a year. always fun to shoot at old friends
the dust settles and gang members starts to ask what losses did we take? amazed that actually beat a gang dubble our side with EW and BS where we had none. wtf all gang members are accounted for.. no friendly wrecks... we didnt jsut win the fight we did it taking no losses at all...
during this whole fight i was in a dictor but i didnt drop any bubbles. first reason my gang leader didnt order me to drop any. second i evaluated that with lachesis and arazus and a sniping bs and 1 hostile dictor dropping a friendly bubble would prolly jsut do more harm then good and act in teh hostile favours.. had i reached the mega or any oth hostile sitting at range from the actual blobwar i woudl have dropped bubbles.
i wanted to write this down to describe the thousand different decision you have to make in a fight that makes the difference in a gang.. some decisions might haev been wrong teh key as to limit the amount of misstakes. cause every does them even how icecold and veteran you might be.
i want to thank everyone in that fight it might have been a small skirmish in the bigger picture but it was the first time of many to come were a big part of greyc were onlien at the same during summer and in a gang. thanks for making it a super experience.

great post maudib, you should repost it as an new post as it is a good example of the nature of PvP in game. it would be tragic to see it lost in a pointless whine thread.
I was not intruding on anyone's space, I received no warning that I was intruding in anyone's space, I wasn't asked to pay a toll, I wasn't PK'ed by a roleplaying pirate, I wasn't carrying anything of value. The rewards of ganking most players (like me) in Eve Online is almost zero. To me there is little difference between 'very little' and 'zero'. I could understand corporations trying to control systems so they could mine it themselves. I could understand someone webbing me and forcing me to pay a toll if I stupidly flew into their system. Way too frequent for my tastes. 2 years ago I played for a couple months, and was never shot at by any player. Now, boy is it a different story, most of the playerbase at the endgame and borred to tears. And for a noob, that is bad news.
So what? EvE is a PvP no holds barred PvP/ganking game next time you buy a game i my advice is to reserch it first. Its obvious that any type of PvP is beyond you so my advice is that you try out Hello Kitty Online
What i queastion is why you are here after 2 days playing whining and crying over some Pixels
Are you trolling or just plain Spoilt.

I'm reasonably sure that you don't actually understand what the words GRIND, TWINK, or GANK mean, and are just regurgitating them because you saw them written a lot by other people who had the same problem.
Ignoring that little failure, any PvP system which gets people like you to stop playing the game entirely is a good thing. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're not fun to play with, against, or near. Any game that doesn't get you to cry and quit is poorly designed, in my opinion.
If those of you dislike EVE Online so much, why come to our forums? You have to realize that a LOT of EVE players were hardcore WoW players. I personally was in the best Horde guild on my high population server for 6 months. We killed everything. To be honest, myself and guildies only found it fun because of new gear. Therein lies the problem. The new "cool looking" gear becomes outdated every year with the expansions now. Not only that, but a lot of your reputation grinds and work goes down the tube as well. The community in WoW is the worst I had experienced, the graphics are artistic but bland, the PvP has no penalty so killing someone you hate has little to no effect, etc.
Get off of these forums and leave us alone. Those of us who play EVE LOVE EVE. I don't even play other games on the PC anymore now because of it.

Thank you for being honest. Eve Online is a random gank game, exactly like what you will find on a PVP server in World of Warcraft.
In less then 2 days I lost my only 2 ships (About 1 month of grinding)
That's really what OP is all about, yet another noob that can't play...
You took me out of context, but thats what lying fanbois do.
So you're blaming the game because you didn't learn from your mistake the first time?
When you lost your first ship the first thing you should have done was find out what corp your attacker belonged too, then you could have easily set them to negative standings, giving you a huge heads up whenever they are in system. Secondly you could have picked up and moved out of the region you were in. The fact that where you were 2 years ago when you last played means Sweet F*** All. That's the nature of a dynamic universe. The players that ganked you likely got booted out of the region they WERE in and set up shop in yours. Adapt or die, as the saying goes. And just because you think they had no reason to gank you doesn't mean they don't. Your ship has modules on it and the wreck is worth salvage, that's more than enough reason for them to blow you up.
And before you say it no I'm not a ganker or a pirate, more anti-pirate actually, but I've got lots of experience surviving in lowsec space. It just requires you to use your brain to survive. Lowsec pirates really aren't hard to avoid.
I haven't played this game in 2 years, so figured I'd give it a shot. In less then 2 days I lost my only 2 ships (About 1 month of grinding) in areas I use to mine at, 2 years ago. PvP is exactly like World of Warcraft: Grind--->Twink--->Gank. After 2 years, more players finished their Grinding, finished their Twinking, and are now borred and Ganking. Well whoopty do, im not interested in the Grind-->Twink-->Gank formula, I tried it before and was no fun.

You will get ganked in -any- game with PvP. Get over it, or stop playing games with PvP. If you can't suck it up, build your character up and protect yourself against people like that, then you don't belong in that game. For those of us who enjoy the competitive aspect of MMOs with PvP, (us who don't just randomly kill people, and actually enjoy having a purpose) we get over it and keep going with the knowledge that one day we will no longer be the victim of random acts of violence. Those who stick through it will be able to fend for themselves in games like that, and will actually gain some ounce of respect in the game by the people we play with because we stuck through it. At that point, we just laugh at the people who get their jollies off killing random people for no reason, because we know that we actually have a higher purpose in the game world, and are inherently more skilled at what we do than them.

Theres nothing competative about Grind-->Twink-->Gank.
Also, you'd think it would be in a corporation's best interst to stop random ganking in the systems surrounding where they are based? Otherwise after driving customers away further into carebear-land, they have to ship their stuff much further into 1.0 space to sell it.

No, im guessing it wasn't just at the area I was in, I guessing its everywhere, now that most players are at the "endgame content". If I thought it was just the area I was in, I wouldn't have given up, but I have played these games long enough to notice the trends.

Notice how I don't blame the ganker (although I do think gankers are somewhat socially deviant), I blame the developer.
The best way to fix the random ganking (nomatter what game) is to put in a bounty system that isn't exploitable. Not carebear zones. Not a PVP server. Not a brand new repackaged game.
I remember reading the old UO forums, and some players had some really good ideas on bounty systems, but that was like 10 years ago and I can't remember.
all i see here is a bunch of whine and conjecture.

the part about it being a a random gank.
you have suppied no evidence that it was an random gank, just whined like a noob who was where he shouldn't have been.
you entire thesis that it could only have been bored endgame players pointlessly ganking you is simply flawed because you did not do any of the diplomacy that is needed in the game. the diplomacy itself is the entertainmet, it never has an endgame. you simply failed to play the game. not only that, in your ignorance you made assumpsions and then came here and whined about it.

Ok, you "guessed" it wasn't just the area you were in. You're "guessing" it's everywhere.
You haven't a single CLUE how many players are at the "endgame" (and what is 'endgame' in Eve anyway?) yet you gave up straight away after all these "guesses".
As for playing "these games" long enough you again show your ignorance. Eve is unique; there's nothing out there like it. A lot of people who have played for years don't PvP AT ALL.
Get over yourself and either quit trolling or make some sort of valid point.

Then by all means telkl us about your unexploitable bounty system oh Wise one
Also just because you had trouble in 0ne region doesnt mean it is in every region

ermm...WoW PvP is much more fun than EVE's PvP...
Hold on, was that honestly a serious statement?? The PvP in WoW has absolutely no risk involved, its one of the lamest pvp systems Ive ever come across. Even in crap games like 'Runescape' you run the risk of loosing your valuables when you PvP.
Like another poster said, EvE has a real pvp system. (and as crappy a game as Runescape is, it does too. Unlike WoW.)
edit: This is the reason the EVE community is so much better than the WoW community. WoW's community is filled with children. EVE's is not. Why? Because the PvP system filters out all the people who are too impatient for a real pvp system.
Yet strangely enough, I must bring in Runescape again as an example (note: I know I keep bringing runescape up, and I played it for a little bit about 5 years ago, but I absolutely hate the game now). I know someone is going to question me on this ('well then what about runescape having a bad community?) It has one of the worst communities known to man and yet I said its PvP is a better system then WoW. The bad community comes from the fact that it is free, and the members world is only $5 a month to join. Much easier for kids to afford than $15 a month.

Eve Online is nothing but random ganking like on a PVP WOW server. You will deny it, lets just leave it like that.
And it isn't just the random ganking which is exactly like WOW, it is the route players take to do their random ganking GRIND-->TWINK-->GANK. Eve Online is now like an old WOW server, with lots of high levels running around ganking for kicks.

Anyway...there will be allways in any game you can think off some dude whos bored to death and killing you will be funny for him in that moment...or maybe not killing but causing wipe if he decide to premature pull world boss (like we had on wow when some horde noob pulled boss, died then boss killed us too)...
Or even in solo play when your stupid brother will come to your room and pull the plug...

your opinion is that you should have been warned, this is simply not true, there are places in eve where just being there is enough reason to shoot on sight. if you wanted out, then you are the one who needs to start the diplomatic dialogue.
so in the spirit of peopel still thinking of eve as click engage gusn go make coffee pvp this was 1 battle i was in a few weesk ago and remember as i am part of merc alliance known as Cruel Intentions we get fights like this every evening...
we were gang of 12 i think... were 8 were greyc (1 in covert frig, 1 dropped out before the fight due to director meeting, so actually jsut 6 in the fight) so i dont think we were more then 10 total active in gang when the fight started. this was the first time greyc members flown under CI banner in a more organized way since the move over ahd spread us out abit
we went up to pure space under Mich leadership (awesoem work yet again). i was dictor pilot adn assigend scout..
after awhile i see a retribution sitting at a gate. thinking this is an obvious trap but hey got speed fitted dictor i will be alright. retri jumped so did I. on the other side 13 hostile in local hostile bubble up SUPRISE!!.... not...
friendly gang 3 jumps out.
hostiles i got visual on:

Ignoring that little failure, any PvP system which gets people like you to stop playing the game entirely is a good thing. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're not fun to play with, against, or near. Any game that doesn't get you to cry and quit is poorly designed, in my opinion.
That's really what OP is all about, yet another noob that can't play...
I don't even play other games on the PC anymore now because of it.
all i see here is a bunch of whine and conjecture.

Your assuming there is some sort of rhyme or reason behind random ganking. What part of random don't you understand?

Thank you for being honest. Eve Online is a random gank game, exactly like what you will find on a PVP server in World of Warcraft.

It's me! I'm the lack of clue in the op!
Sure bud.

If I thought it was just the area I was in, I wouldn't have given up, but I have played these games long enough to notice the trends.ermm...WoW PvP is much more fun than EVE's PvP...
I remember reading the old UO forums, and some players had some really good ideas on bounty systems, but that was like 10 years ago and I can't remember.

the part about it being a a random gank.
you have suppied no evidence that it was an random gank, just whined like a noob who was where he shouldn't have been.
you entire thesis that it could only have been bored endgame players pointlessly ganking you is simply flawed because you did not do any of the diplomacy that is needed in the game. the diplomacy itself is the entertainmet, it never has an endgame. you simply failed to play the game. not only that, in your ignorance you made assumpsions and then came here and whined about it.
I didn't know that in WoW you could blow up someone's equipment and make them lose it.
EVE has a real PvP system, not player enabled killing in a PvE game.
