PvP in AoC has been something that has had me curious for quite some time. How will the combat mechanics work in a massive battle? People who get to try the game better post their videos and previews up on the web quickly
I'm glad that they are going to have some public pvp'ing going on, and allowing people to record what they want. But this update doesn't seem too good for the folks looking for siege footage.
Even if the press is given permission to release the siege footage they see... how big do you think the sieges are going to be? A limited group of press will see it. That means, the sieges will be small, not many people there. Maybe press won't even get to play it, they will just watch a few funcom reps showing it off. Watching 2 or 3 guys operating siege weapons against a couple (or no) enemies doesn't sound all that exciting.
That is not much of a siege to be honest... and not at all what I feel they were hyping it up to be.
Let's hope I am speaking too soon, and they are intending to show us a little more than that.
The games in beta now. Just because it's going to be press only for the Siege stuff, doesn't mean it won't be large scale. The game's beta is in full swing now. They could have everyone in beta on a lvl 80/20 character in the Boarder Kingdom for the press converage.
Also, if they are showing it to the press that suggests to me, magazines and such. I'm sure we'll see some nice previews from it. But yea, I want to see some video.
If they can get their beta players to participate in a siege for them to watch, that would be good and address the concerns I had about the size of the demonstration. It is hard for me to imagine a siege demo being very large if only the funcom reps there are able to play the role.
I've never known a press demo to actually 'USE' beta testers in this way as part of a press demonstration, which makes it seem unlikely to play out like that, but I admit it is certainly possible. Funcom is doing some things that havent been done before, after all, so maybethey would be the first to try such a thing.
I'll wait for the previews

The Screen's certainley look interesting! looks 40 people plus just from that angle.

I was disappointed to hear about the closed-door demonstration of the siege warfare too. I also can't imagine a siege demon being very large, even worse if it ends up being just more footage of it or some pre-programmed, non-interactive demo.
But your idea of using online beta-testers would be really cool if they did that. Setting up a given time and telling two big beta guilds to get ready to strut their best stuff in front of the press would be an awesome thing to see. Though if people knew they were being videoed for gaming sites then someone would probably try doing something stupid like streaking naked at the enemy in a PvP version of 'Leeroy Jenkins' just because people always do that kind of stuff in front of news cameras lol.

Looking forward to it. This is the kind of openness I like.
Hehe this will be great, even though it will make the urge to play rise. sigh lol
Waiting patiently.

the gaming event will be no nda, bringing of cameras and audio recorders encouraged.
can expect tons of hands on material from leipzig weekend
but like Fion said...can expect tons of confused reviews with brand new way of combat being involved.
