not quiet sure why your would give a crap since its not you whose getting the tattoo. and he did say earlier it would represent himself. he basically means hes not getting some random tattoo he thinks looks pretty cool for about a month and then forgets about it . .

"LOVE" and "HATE" would be fine if it weren't for those words representing a rather simple and black 'n white view on the world. And people with a simplistic view on people and things really are the most pathetic ones, don't you think?

BTW, a respnsible tattooist refuses to tattoo on hands and face. There goes another one of your nuanciated views. Awww...

Mmmh. Perhaps all this original text is making you nervous. Let's end with a quote (a really simplistic one you should be able to relate with:

The world is divided into two kinds of people:  those who have tattoos, and those who are afraid of people with tattoos.  ~Author Unknown

So, MadAce, did you decide to get that tat? I totally wanna see a pic in the end, if you use my design.

And why on earth would tattoos be considered something to make up for a lack of personality? They're used to complement whats inside. Not only that, but they can be great conversation starters, like a cockroach on your bicep, or something

  • I cast my vote for Vampiress' drawing as well. I never thought a cockroach could look that cool.

Also, thank you for not choosing tribal. I just think there's too much of that flowing around these days.

My vote is for something similar to the following..:

    image
    What's your Wu Name?
Donovan --> Wu Name = Violent Knight
    Methane47 --> Wu Name = Thunderous Leader
"Some people call me the walking plank, 'cuz any where you go... Death is right behind you.."

If all goes well and I decide to go trough with it I'll have this one (or something very, very similar) in about a month.

I'll keep you posted and you may expect a pic.

Many thanks for the art and the effort.

No Problem, MadAce. I've been in an artistic rut for a while, and I think that cockroach brought me out of it, lol. Skin is the greatest canvas of all, and there's so many of it! People should let themselves become their own favorite piece of art

  • Good luck with the tattoo. I can't bring myself to do it, I get wierd about modifying my flesh in any way, but I wholeheartedly support it in others.

Before you throw yourself headlong into a tattoo parlor and get something, you should do a bit of research.

You need to check out the portfolio of the guy/girl doing your tattoo.
    Is his/her work good?
    Is the shop clean?
How is the tattoo equipment cleaned and looked after?
Make sure that the ink is not reused.

Give this url a poke. There's a bit more information there about getting a tattoo.
What to look for in a tattoo parlor

Also remember that a free tattoo doesn't always mean it'll be a good tattoo. Afterall, you get what you pay for.

    Good luck!

im getting my tattoo soon and its costing me 600.

My girlfriend, friends, family and everyone have told me its something you regret later in life though.

But be careful not to gain or lose too much weight when you get tattoos because that will contract or loosen them.

Is the shop clean? Very, checked by thrustworthy people I know.

How is the tattoo equipment cleaned and looked after? Also perfectly fine.

Make sure that the ink is not reused. Knew that, and they don't.

    Thanks for the link.
Also remember that a free tattoo doesn't always mean it'll be a good tattoo. Afterall, you get what you pay for. Yea, people keep telling me this.

But it's not free (if I would accept free tats then I wouldn't have a free spot of skin anymore) there's just a discount (I know someone who knows someone, blah blah blah).
    Good luck!

Thanks for the fine advice and the concern.

    Numbers:
I've considered all those numbers. I'm actually looking for a certain number... A long time ago I heard of a number that signifies the proportions in the human body. Certain distances between parts of the human body have that same proportion over and over. Can't find it tho.
But that still is kinda nerdy.

Somone actually suggested I'd have Pi tattood on my back. I politely said it was a rather bad idea.

Sigh. Someone said I'd better go visit a doctor to test for some diseases that are transmitted trough blood (Hepatitis C, AIDS, ....) since she thinks I shouldn't take a tattoo if I have any of those.

Visiting a doctor is enough reason for me not to go trough with it.

Yes, I'm thinking about the roach design. When I draw it in Flash I'll see for some minor tweaks for the head. Tho the body Vampiress drew is perfect.

Its your choice obviously but I would avoid the Roach.  If you are not going to remove it ever then you have to think about a tattoo that you wouldn't mind having even when you are 50+.  A symbol or something has more longevity attached to it.  Just a thought

Yea, I thought about that too. But an animal is more consistent in meaning (tho the meaning can differ from culture to culture) than a symbol, as symbols are easily abused/used by ideologies and organizations. I've looked trough hundreds of symbols and none of them are not attached to some sort of cult/religion/ideology/... , none of which I want to be associated with. And who knows what kinds of dictatorships will emerge in the 21th century:

"BOW TO THE HOLY CUTE KITTEN, OR BE DESTROYED!!!"

Some things I know for sure to be true to me as long as a I live. The concept of evolution (Roaches are amazingly evolved), resilience (roaches), humility (roaches) and come crawling from under ones skin (roaches, well not for real of course, and screw The Mummy).

A discount, not free. If I wanted a free one then I would've had some years ago.

In short, I have the opportunity to get a tattoo for a really low price. So far I have turned down every offer I ever had for a tattoo since I don't like being repeatedly pierced with a needle by someone who has been on a speed trip without sleep for the past 6 days an needs a break every 10 minutes to get a needle in his own body to counter the speed so he will at least stop shaking after which he proceeds with taking apart another TV. I also like to keep the chance to contract AIDS and similars to a bare minimum. Call me a snob if you must.
But THIS time it would actually be done by someone who I didn't know previously (which would make it a very responsible person) and with a fine discount so I only have to pay for the thin layer of leather I would wear on the chair I'd occupy.

Problem is that I frankly have no idea what to get as a tattoo. It's something I've always wanted and always found to be really "wow" contrary to some who only find it "kinda cool".
I'm really at a loss and someone suggested I'd ask people who don't know me. So here I am, at the forum I visit the least, with the third largest concentration of nutcases I know of.

It's my first one so it'd have to be smallish (also for medical reasons since I have strange/cool/wtfish reactions to just about everything).

But the requirements I have set for the design are anything BUT smallish. Since I'll probably never be able to pay for a removal and'll have to keep it for all the years that I will continue to roam the earth. And with my luck I'll probably live forever if I have a crappy tattoo.
    It should....
Entangle my entire personality. Well, all of them. I'm not only a nerd who watches star trek and reads Asimov. Whether I want to or not, there's more to me. So no aliens or shit like that.
Don't be a meaningless fashion statement. Screw tribal.
Have an as universal significance as possible. Preferably something aliens (yea, I said no aliens  but screw that) would understand. So preferably no cultural references. And something not in a language nobody speaks.

Sigh. That's not all of the requirements but still...

    Ideas so far:
(stylized) Drawing of a cockroach. Can't find a good drawing tho.
    Altered ouroboros.
Schematic of our solar system. Too nerdy.
Frog (don't ask). Not nerdy enough.
Binary number depicting something really witty and smart () but I can't decide on a number. (some universal biological constante should do)
Web of Wyrd. Too... un-universal. But the meaning is nice.
And seems all cool symbols have been taken by some wacko religion. I'm not religious.

Sigh. Don't really know what I'm asking for. Some ideas, a way to disect my brain and find something that's equally compatible with all my parts, a design, ... Or some questions I can ask that would deliver answers that would sum me up.
If I can't get a good idea I'll just abandon the idea altogether.
Thanks in advance for your input.

I suggest you abandon the idea altogether if this is a limited-time offer.  To be honest, my advice is to decide on an image you want, then put it somewhere where you'll constantly see it.  On your wall, or hanging from your car mirror, or on the fridge, or something.  If you don't get tired of it after a few months, only then actually consider getting it.

And it's not limited in time. I just have to hold some people back from getting their tat. I'll break their kneecaps or something. No problem.
