Character animation changes?

Is there any news on fixes/changes to the player character animations?  I'm still waiting on the server merge before I come back.  I really like the NPC and Toon models but the animations needed some work.

i would assume they would improve the animations at somepoint. but vanguard still has some more bugs and optimization before they improve the animations imo.

I'd hope they at least have a small team dedicated towards animation. Animation can be a very tedious, frustrating, and painful process at times to make it look excellent. Hell even making it look half way decent can be a chore.

I hope they put some time into animations, I know I keep running back to EQ2 mostly because of the animations. I think high quality animations makes it easy to get into the character.

In EQ2 my character seems realistic (as realistic as a half elf Shadow Knight can seem) and then when I try and play something else like Vanguard, the lack of good animation just screams at me until I go back and play EQ2.

Vanguard avatar animations and skin textures/lighting need work, avatars look wooden, NPC's may as well be target dummies.  Te only ones I like a re the ones on the griffons, but that's because the griffon looks nice and you can't really see much of the NPC guard!

I expect that SoE will focus on things like memory leaks, crash to desktop issues etc before going near graphics, but if they want to stick around long term it would be a great step in the right direction to say "we care about the little things too" - and to prove it.

Unfortunately SoE's history includes taking lovely avatars and inspired combat animations in PRE-CU SW:G and messing them up completely in SWG:NGE.  The mirror wrap line alignment on the avatar was changed, lighting was changed, and suddenly beautiful entertainers looked gaunt and false, and removing so many combat classes made many of the movers redundant.

The only up-side of SoE being in full control now is that there should be little reason to not cross-liscence the dances' emotes (all of them) and musician emotes (all of the too) and add them into Vanguard.  They have the animations, they own both games, so why not?

You didn't just ask the developers to add 'dancing' emotes to a game did you?  Gaaaah!!!!!!

Yeah in my little time in VG the character animations are very noticeably bland, uninspired, and uninteresting. Especially the jump animation. It looks more like my character is depressed and just giving up on life. But at the end of the day, that's cosmetic and I'd rather the team concentrate on performance, optimizing their Unreal code (poor choice for an MMO engine, imo), and squashing bugs before they work on aesthetics.

Hell, if they'd take EQ2's animations, LOTRO's engine and terrain art direction/construction, and throw them both into VG's open world environment, I'd be a happy camper.

I doubt they will put any development time in to things like animations until after the game performance and bugs are 90% fixed.  It just seems odd for them to work on "pretty" issues when they have major "system" issues to deal with right now.

Oh contraire Kyleran, I'm not after emotes, I want the entire pre-CU/NGE entertainer system implemented, along with better social clothing!  Mounted areal combat would be nice, but proper paired dancing would be better
