According to this definition most games in here are vaporware. And Aventurine is sucky at marketing, they admitted as much themselves. I would think that a fraud would look much better than what the screenshots shows. Hell, I could have made better scenery with Maya myself.

I think we can all agree that by the literal definition it is vaporware, but by that definition it may still be released. Thus, in a sense, we all are right. But really, only the people that always said it was vaporware are right.
I give my solemn word to everyone that if anyone can give me solid evidence that there is even an engine in place for this game at this time I will never post here again. I am sure Questionable would like that; when he first showed up on this site I and several others laughed in his face for having a terrible argument about something or other. I cannot even remember what it was right now. I will add that if he can prove this, I will never mock him and give a retort to his asinine posts.
Come then, ye fanboys! You want us to prove that the game does not exist, but it is impossible to prove a negative. So prove us wrong. Prove that the game has *anything* solid in development. I beg you. If this game was released, I would play as much as I could. It sounds like the perfect game. It just doesn't exist.

come on wapor boys, where is the bite? It's like you have all grown old and lost all you're pointy teeth, no less pathetic then before but you seem to have lost the touch, as I read the tame (yet still retarded) comments by the vaporware idiots I am not getting worked up or angry anymore, all I feel is pity. Yes we are all old now... Considering this game is almost a decade in the making (if you count when they first opened up a site about it). I don't think it is vaporware but I think your starting flame is weak and lacks vision. Perhaps your mind is slipping in your old age too. Those of us that are here because Darkfall is the only game worth following in produced atm are not here to prove to some retards one thing or another, I am simply here because I wish to lend my support to Darkfall, and show investors and publishers out there just how much we want this game, and how much faith we have in adventurine. First you are not showing anyone worth a damn anything. Investors and publishers may come here to laugh but that is about it. I think your a bit naive to think an posts here could impact the game at all. Second, if you did not want to prove anything you would not post. Your insults show your hypocrisy of indifference. Embrace your fan boy nature and realize you are just as emotionally vested as the rest. How can you have faith in a company that has done nothing? That is like saying you have faith in the safety of a new car from a company that has never built a car before since they started. What I find interesting is that it seems the main reason people think its vaproware is because they can't phantom the idea of a smaller company like Adventurine that is run and staffed by a very dedicated group of idealists could possibly succeed where the greedy bastards of all the major faceless billion dollar gaming companies like Blizzard, SoE or FunCom has failed. History has shown us that almost all of like minded companies have failed so can you blame people for doubting? Would you have more faith in a doctor fresh out of medical school doing his first surgery or a reputable doctor with years of experience? Again your argument is naive. When it comes to the failures of Shadowbane and Dark & Light the only reason either of those failed was because they didn’t have the money to finish the game. Now we are all aware that Darkfall has had a solid 4 years in production (yes the retards will refuse to realize that production started in 03) with far better economy and resources then those two games put together. I agree Aventurine has had better resources. I think you are over stating the amount they have had compared to other games in the past. Aventurine is now under the gun sitting on a $20 million loan. If they do not have their ducks in a row right now it will be pushed out in the same bad state as the other games mentioned. With no QA group and lack of publisher I would say they are not even close to being squared away and it looks bad. Anyway its nice to see that the vapor boys are running for cover as we get close to beta and I am sure they we will find them crying vaporware in other forums in a few weeks. Are you seriously suggesting DF will be released in a few weeks? I mean that is the only way the dissenters in this forum would move to another game. I see more dissent every month for this game which would contradict the fleeing you are claiming. In fact several prominent community members are drawing a line for October for beta or they will jump ship. Check out the official boards and warcry and see for yourself. I think there is more wishful thinking then truth to your statement. If you close you're eyes for second, forget about all the hurt and pain, all those times you have been let down by parents and loved once, all those times when you wished and hopped for something that seemed to great just to have it thrown back in you're face, just leave it behind for a second and for the first time in so many years just believe, that feeling, that belief that there is someone out there even trying to create something more, something truly great, warms my heart and nothing you retards can say or do is going to shake that I'm afraid. I just feel sorry for you guys that are to afraid to believe anymore. Even if Darkfall doesn’t release what have I lost? I am enjoying dreaming about it and I will always have that, all you will have is the same nothing you have right now, perhaps a few seconds of feeling proud of you’re lack of faith, “see I was right, and I didn’t even get hurt this time” I congratulate you in that case, for having failed so utterly at life. Here you have gone overboard. This is not a religion it is a game man. Back away from the ledge of insanity and come join the rational people again. I mean do you honestly think any of the trolls are emotionally distraught? I disagree with almost everything you have said here and I suffer from no pain. I think DF is an excellent concept and at the same time the indicators show Aventurine is getting everything wrong. Even if DF is released with everything promised what have any of the trolls lost? Again you make a naive argument with no basis in reality. How is criticizing a game failing at life? LOL Seriously do you smell what you are shoveling?

Any exeptions to a definition should be included in the definition to clearify the definition. The definiton mentioned is a poor one at best because it doesn't say anything about what state of the software must be before you can use the term. Can you use it while the game is in development ? I hope not because then by definition much software would be vaporware and still much of that software would be released anyhow. As I see it vaporware is a final status. The software didn't go anywhere. DF is in between internal beta and closed beta because they are considering publishing the game themselves or not. Thus it is too early to call vaporware on DF.
Most/all employees in Aventurine have a hiredate november 2002, even Razorwax weren't around in 1998. Where do you get that 1998 date from ?
And yes, developers can be sucky at marketing and still get lots of cash because it is not their job to market their product to the customers. That would be the job of the publisher. And where does it say that a developer should reveal anything ? Blizzard has a policy not to release any information until it is releatively close to release date. Again, that is the job of the publisher.

Well, apparently you are in no position to criticize Herritage's dict are you? Stick with the definition so that all of us have some common ground to communicate. In simple terms, this game is Vaporware. Comprende amigo?
When did Razorwax founded? thats how old this game's roots are. And it's conception date is even older, so saying that this game is 10 years old could be an understatement.
From what you are saying here, you seem to be very biased and have a direct connection with them. Tell us, what is your connection with them? and how do you know Aventurine's hiredates? Obviously being directly involved with them, makes your remarks unreliable at least, you can understand that don't you?

They're many different definitions of the term what makes this one any better? Also in most definitions they use the term released instead of produce which could in fact make AoC fall under the category of vaporware.
Most go off the development time not when the idea is thought up.
As you see, everything is explained there and there is little room for assumptions. My only complaint is, that they should have given some examples, like DF

The definition is flawed. the Wikipedia definition is a bit better but still a bit weak. AoC would be defined as vaporware as because of their 4 delays. Compared to this, DF is more beliveable. And also there are a lot of examples of vaporware, that turned releaseware in the end. So in my mind, don't use the term if you don't have all the information.
You are still pulling numbers and dates out your a**, if you cannot be bother to research it, I cannot be bothered to educate you either.
And please, take off your conspiracy tin hat. I have no link to this game whatsoever. Aventurine was founded in november 2002.
Henning Ludvigsen, the art director of darkfall states in his CV that his employment with Aventurine started november 2002. There is nothing more to it.

So, because the art director is employed Nov02 it means that Aventurine was founded Nov02??? is that so? Besides this game was conceived way before Aventurine, when Razorwax existed afaik or am I wrong. That means way back 2002 right? and like i WITNESS here, I remember seeing announcements as early as 1998. The game is trying to make it out the last decade mate, digest it and it should be listed to gether with Duke nuke em forever as Wikipedia suggests us
And stop this fraudulent gamewith Razorwax/Aventurine. If Aventurine files for closure selling its assets to companyX, this doesnt mean that the new game LightFall, the continuation of Darkfall is going to be a new game right?
I know and read mmorpg.com boards for years but never bothered to register untill now. I registered to post a comment on the Darkfall board because I was reading it for a while now ( I like reading stuff about "game in a neverending developpement stage" ).
I am speachless by the blind devotion and faith expressed by some the DF fans on this board, it is almost as if DF was some sort of cult. It remains me of Brad McQuaid followers when he was talking about Vanguard and to McQuaid's defence he has a past experience with mmorpg, he has a background ( well now he has nothing but that is another story )
Some fans dare thinking that beta will start in 2008 ? Really I can't wait DF to be released if it ever did just to witness the horror as I did for Vanguard.
Also, comparing the state of AoC, WAR, PotBS or which ever game to DF is ridiculous. I'm not a fan of neither but at least I can see and read evidences about those games, AoC WAR etc were present at few games conventions, they had something to show, even the company that build Chronicle of Spellborn has something to show.
Some "Joe and Jane" were able to play AoC, War, Potbs demos, their web site is full of informations, just read their dev journals, their dev posts count.
Anyway, I salute Atziluth, I don't know how you can manage to not give up with those who defend this game like it was their first born ? ( not all DF followers are fanboys don't get me wrong, they are lucid people who keep an eye on this game but not with critical view ).
PS : english isn't my first language, pardon my possible grammar faults.

While it may have been concieved before they were founded that doesnt add on to development time. When they first actually started developing the game is when it starts. If you can show a link or something about a 1998 announcement that would be appreciated. Well wikipedia says the AoC could even be considered to be vaporware so should we think that it will be?
Fraudulent? LOL there has been more proof that aventurine has been working on something than anything you could pull up. The only thing you try to show is Duke nukem forever= Darkfall and you dont even do a very good job at that.
This game looked good. It was exactly what they are saying - Freedom. However. The name DarkFallhas ALREADY BEEN TAKEN on a computer game. IT CAN NEVER BE RELEASED UNDER THAT NAME, PERIOD. It is not going to ever be released. This 'game' has been haunting the gaming world with its wonderful promises, however, It is not going to ever be released. Look at the 'graphics' it is as bad as Ultima Online, EQ, Aserhon's Call. It is so far outdated that it would need an entire overhaul to the entire game, BUT the entire game doesn't exist. If it has taken them almost eight years to get to ... to what? Vapor! Imagine how long it would take to bring it into the 21st century gaming world. It is not going to ever be released. Twinkies will rot before this game ever launches. All together now... it is not going to ever be released.
Take a look at the topmost file; "Response to Office Action". It is, in short, a coexistence agreement between Dreamcatcher Entertainment (the makers of the "Dark Fall" adventure games) and Aventurine SA (our lads in Athens doing "Darkfall", the MMORPG). It is signed by both parties, which means they have agreed that there should be no undue confusion amongst consumers between the two games, and that neither shall attempt to infringe upon the other's sphere of development.

I have to hand you kudos Teth, nice scrounging in finding that agreement from almost four years ago
However, I will continue to stick with my first impression. A company that cares so little about their product as to name it the same as another product within the same industry is pathetic. Titles and marketing are everything in MMORPGs. In the gaming world you live and die by your ability to market the software. i.e. Asheron's Call was a substantially better game than EQ, but didn't sell itself as it should have and suffered in the marketplace for that mistake.
Darkfall - Dark Fall is a mistake. It is a mistake that would never be made by anyone with business savy. It would never be made by anyone that will ever have the ability to market a game with such a monumental handicap.
All together now... It is never going to be released.
"Move along now Johnny, there's nothin' to see here. Nothin' at all."
"The reality of the poor in America isn't the difference between The Haves and The Have Nots, it is the difference between The Haves and The Have Lots."

now this is a good argument I'll try looking up this "dark Fall" game. I've made the same mistake back when I wa san Indie developer though and got a cease-and-desist. But a professional developer shouldnt be making this mistake.

Henning Ludvigsen, the art director of darkfall states in his CV that his employment with Aventurine started november 2002. There is nothing more to it.

And when we got more women on the team, it was like No, no, no. We need puppies and horses in there.

And stop this fraudulent gamewith Razorwax/Aventurine. If Aventurine files for closure selling its assets to companyX, this doesnt mean that the new game LightFall, the continuation of Darkfall is going to be a new game right?
Hi,
I know and read mmorpg.com boards for years but never bothered to register untill now.

The name is not an issue.

yay this means theres actually a chance
that the game does exist and it will come out eventually
i mean why else would they bother going through that
I have to hand you kudos Teth, nice scrounging in finding that agreement from almost four years ago
