Which "race" do prefer to play as? (poll)

I'm curious as to what the most popular races are to play as in an mmo.

i think it depends on what game you play and what role you want to play....some pvp based games you might wanna be orc damage dealer but on an rp server you might wanna play roleplaying as an elve....so its not easy to make a poll for that ^^

No matter what MMO it is, I almost always play as the tall and skinny race, because that's what I am IRL. It varies from game to game. If there is not a tall AND skinny race, I just settle for the tallest.

This depends on what the models look like.  I kinda like the Gnome models in World of Warcraft.  In other games I have liked Elves, Humans, and Rakki.

I dont like playing as a human, human midget (gnome, dwarf), or elves that look human with pointy ears.  I'll play anything else as long as I think it looks cool.  Basically, I would rather play something besides a human since that's already what I am.

I play as whatever race which gives stats for my class. Although, I am assuming that you mean if stats had no interference with race, I would probably go with human.

I like to imagine myself in other worlds and situations so I always roll human and try to make myself, they... or rather we are my favorite race.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

I prefer to see new, unique races.  However, I tend to choose halfling/midget types, or those that are thin and agile (as long as they are not elves).  Sometimes I even go for the incredibly large, buff races.  Anything extreme.  Anything not average/normal, like humans.

^^^^ haha, one of the few

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I voted for Elves <ducks>. hey i got pointed ears in RL so maybe I can identify with them. but if an MMO doesnt have them its all good of course

I pretty much exclusively go Human.  I dont think much of Role Playing, so i like to make my character Human, and usually unique looking.

I voted for Gnomes and Halflings but I am really Gnomes and Dwarves now.

I used to play a Halfling in EQ and started as one in EQ2 but then switched up to a Gnome.

I then started playing WoW as a Gnome and then started a Dwarf so I am always kind of tossed between the two when I play a game now.

It all depends on what class I choose to make and if I want to make it seem out of the ordinary or play the part.  For instance, if I'm making a warrior I'll either pick a race that's imposing or I'll pick the shortest, least likely race just to be different.

Ogres! The bigger, the smellier, the uglier the better!

I am a pretty big guy in real life, so I like to play something I can relate to. In EQII I am an Ogre Guardian. They didn't have Ogres in WoW, so I went with my second choice, Dwarf. Hey, they are the next best thing. They may be short, but Damn are they tough!

I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self.

If you take "usual" fantasy games you always have a vast majority play the various breeds of Elves. WOW is an exception because Elves play a much smaller role there compared to other fantasy-worlds in the present Warcraft era, and its a quite different art style. But generally, in all D&D-style worlds you find MANY play Elves, and its quite naturally. Elves represent us, as we would like to be, no matter if good or evil elves. Slim, intelligent, superior, immortal or at least long living. I guess its what most would chose to be, if they could chose to be any fantasy race for real, being something other than human. I mean, how many would really want to be lizardman, orc or hobbit?

I usually like to play "good dark elf", cause its a way of underdog. Everyone hates and distrusts you even tho you mean best, which is familiar to me. =P

well it really depends on what the bonusus you get for the race, but I usually wont play gnomes halfings dwarves etc cause theyre small. For some reasons the small races turn me off, and the larger ones do as well. I usually go for something in the middle.

Nice turnout guys and gals! Reading through your replies, it's amazing to see how many people pick a race that they can relate to, whether it be by appearance or by trait.

    Thanks for participating!

Oh and as for me, I voted Cat People. I love cats and I love how they are usually viewed as very agile with generally above average strength.
