Bioshock should have been a RPG...

I would have loved it to be a lovely themed underwater city where everything was going great. You could go watch Marilyn Monroe or someone playing in a theatre or go gambling or party lol. Then everything starts going wrong and you've gotta stop it and meet allies etc etc. I just love the theme but thought the story and potential was really wasted with the game they released.

It could have been KOTOR underwater.

    I don't know. . .

It kind of already is an RPG, well it has RPG elements in it anyways. I think had they tried to make in more RPG it would have taken away the fast-paced thrill and eerily silent moments in the game which make it so great. RPGs inherently take away from the atmosphere and thus make up for it in the story, where as action/FPS games inherently take away from the story but add a great deal to the atmosphere.

BioShock nailed down a good medium for the game they were trying to make, and I love it.

Hm.. good point, I'd play something like that. The question is, how well would quests work out in a city where everything is determined to gut you? I suppose they'd come from examining something, or finding a trigger item.. which is actually a way better concept..

Quest NPC: I need you to gather me 45 reef corals so I can rip your f*ckin' head off! *foams at mouth*

Never played Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines then, have you? That game is just plain creepy at times.
