Fathers day gift... need answers before purchase.

Hi,

I really would like to purchase this game for my husband for fathers day.

Ive heard and read rave reviews about the game and it reminds me how over the years him and I have discussed what we would do if we could make our own superhero or villan, so im sure he will love it...... and of course im going to join in...

But, i needed a couple of answers.

1.  Is it 1 account per player, or 1 account per ip address ?

if we both want to play, does that mean we need to pay the fee twice?

2.  Also, he would prefer to play the villan ( magneto fan from birth) when will the villan expansion be released?

3. do you absoultly positivley have to play "online" on a wide scale, or can we just play on our home network?

1 Account per player, but each player can have 8 chararacters per server (12 servers), so 8x12 characters per account.

If you want to play at the same time (on 2 different computers using 2 different accounts), then yes you need 2 accounts. If you wanted to take turns on the same computer (or different computers, but same account), than no.

There is no official release date. It is estimated Q3-Q4 2005. I forget where I saw the estimate, but its at least a year away.

You must absoultly positivley play online. You cannot play on your own home network.

I echo the previous response mostly.

My impression from the press and the game forum is City of Villains (which you'll have to pay extra for - not a free expansion) is due Q2-Q3 2005, but it could be an Xmas 2005 release too. Arena-style PvP bouts between heroes may be implemented earlier.

As far as having to play on a "wide scale", I actually play half the time with my brother as a dynamic duo, and have a fun time fighting the forces of evil when we just don't have the time or inclination to get involved with pick-up teams. Despite crossing paths with soloers and teams every other block, it still feels like we're playing our own game. Turn off the broadcast and request channels and you feel like you're in the bubble of you're own team mostly.

If you're still on the fence, just get the one copy of the game for him on Father's Day. Even the jaded veteran MMO players get the purchase price's worth of enjoyment. Maybe I'm just a big ole fanboi, but I think after a few days you'll definitely be able to make a educated choice of whether to continue past the complimentary month and whether you'll need a copy for yourself.

1.  You can have up to 8 characters on one account per server, but only one person can access the acount at a time.  So if youre planning on playing with him on another PC then you need 2 copies of the game.

2.  Even if you cant play the "villian" expansion yet, you can still make dark looking characters which look like villians anyway.  You can make chars with horns, deathly pale faces, basically anything you want.  And I believe there are a few "Vampire guilds" so I dont think this will really be an issue.

3.  Yes you have to play online.  Thats why they call it an MMORPG.  I dont think anyone would pay a monthly fee to play it alone on their PC.  However, you can group just the 2 of you and do the indoor missions.  THey are instanced so you 2 will be the only people in the area, but at higher lvl's you wouldnt be able to do much with only 2 people, you need a whole team.

Actually You are allowed 8 Characters per server. There are 12 Servers. 8x12 = 96 Characters per account!

This was stated earlier in the thread however.

LOL I know that Mal, but seeing as how theres 2 of them, and they are more concerned with players and not characters I didnt think it relevant to go into all that.
