I am always bouncing back and forth between playing World of Warcraft and Everquest II. Both games are obviously similar in some ways yet also so vastly different. Since I move between the two so much I have been slowly making levels in each game. My question is probably one that would seem rather trivial to MMO vets; but, I really need some help in understanding something.
One theme that comes up over and over in any MMO thread is “end game” talk. I’ve always assumed that meant what one would do after reaching the highest level attainable and maxing out crafting skills. I very seldom see any level 70 characters in Everquest II but I see loads of level 70 characters in World of Warcraft.
It seems in WoW, people just sort of sit around the various cities and duel each other. I’m not really one for PvP so I’m beginning to wonder if the hours committed to leveling will be worth it. As I said, I don’t see to many high level characters in EQ2 though; so, I don’t really know what it is one would do in that game.
I’m a casual player, playing a couple hours here and there. WoW does seem to suit me a little bit more as I can solo when I want to get some decent weapons or gear. EQ2 seems to suit me as the community is more to my liking and the players seem more mature. I also read that in EQ2 it becomes nearly impossible to get any decent items unless I am in a party while in WoW I can make it with no issues.
My question is this: What does one do in both these games once that level has been reached? Is there life after level 70 in each game? Can both games offer the solo and casual player the ability to get the gear they want?

WOW:
Life @70 was fun for a while, gearing up through crafting and lvl 70 5 mans and rep grinding for heroic keys. Then running Heroics for gear and raiding Kara. Kara was fun for a couple months then gruuls.. then into SSC/EyE/Mag...
Gets to the point you have nothing to do but raid, I found myself logging in to do my dailies, logging out, logging in for raid time, logging out after raid...
No end game life in wow isn't fun, its extremely boring. The trip to 70 is much more enjoyable than the life after, make sure you enjoy the trip
Alot of reputation grinding in WoW that will keep you occupied for a couple of weeks before you reach exalted with all the factions.
Also alot gear grinding in each instance, espcially if you go to the heroic instances. I really like(d) heroics myself, especially doing them with familiar people with the same gear and gaming experience as myself. Even doing speed runs in heroics to gather those epic badges which you can redeem for good items.
But since ive done all this with 2 characters, and terrible exhausted with it... There really isnt much gameplay left.
I started PvP'ing with my priest and did get #2 in our battlegroup in 2v2 Arena. And i did receive my Armoured Netherdrake so on and so forth... Oh yeah... You can also grind those 5k gold for the 300/300 riding skill
All in all, i think WoW is something to invest your time in, if you actaully enjoy doing the same thing over and over again. The only problem I find now, is that everybody _HAS_ already done all this, and does not want to do it again, meaning finding groups gets harder, and finding good groups is impossible.
Even my former guild didnt want to do heroics, since we were already raiding, and the items from the raids are 10 times better than the ones from the heroics... meaning its a waste of time for them... Even though it is fun! I really do think it is fun, if you have a great grp.

Well your question is a matter of opinion, like 'Coke or Pepsi". I have to say I favor WoW's endgame a bit more for people because its very very easy to get to lvl 70 then you raid, raid & raid ..for hours at a time. Or you can pvp. In EQ2 where you can raid at endgame, but EQ2 has a ton of content and expansions and adventure packs and player housing that WoW does not offer. But as in playing the game, WoW is much more simplistic and easy where EQ2 involes more depth. As in getting good items, I believe you are mistaken. For instance in WoW you must raid (or pvp,)to get the good stuff, and in turn spend hours in a raid for a chance to roll against others on a item, if the one that you can use drops. Same goes for EQ2........So like I said, its just a matter of opinion, but most people like WoW's more simplistic style that is why they have the more scripts, and WoW does deliver better pvp than EQ2 by far I must say. EQ2 player base is older, alot of roll players.....so again its a matter of prefernce. I can't say one is better than the other but if you looking to get to 70 in a month, go with WoW and raid or pvp.
I have played both at 70 and prefer EQ2 end game because its not really the end when you hit 70, there is so much content that you find you mentor lower group to see the stuff you missed during leveling, Raids are a real challange, some are just fun, with high end zones like Unrest and Nek Castle 3 that are not just dungeon hacks but make you feel like the are living places.
Anyhow its EQ2 for me, is that Coke or Pepsi?
I would suggest not worrying about the end of the game. Just enjoy the content as you level up. If you don't enjoy the content while leveling up I have to wonder why you are playing either game at all. I have gotten to max level in a number of MMOs and though I had a good time buffing and going back to camp for items solo in EQ in general I find that at max level the good content ends as does any worthwhile progression . The well done content is usually one the way up and the best content is many times in the early levels as that was focused on the most when the game was made.
Thanks to each of you that replied. It's always nice to see other people thoughts on such things.
Flyte, that is a brilliant suggestion. I suppose I never really thought of it in that light. I was beginning to wonder which game I wanted to end up at 70 with and seem to have missed the very reason most of us play MMO's in the first place.
Thanks again to each of you that replied.
I've a Ratonga Sorcerer lvl 70 and a Night Elf Hunter lvl 70. I quit wow quick after hitting lvl 70, it hasnt to offer anything beside raiding. wow is just a Diablo armor grinding game, if you don't like that (like me), EQ2 is the better choice for endgame fun. Heritage quests are fun
Also the way to max lvl is much funnier and longer in Eq2. Blizzard want the people playing their endgame, they don't offer any chance to enjoy leveling in wow.

No problem. Just make sure you are having fun whatever it is you are doing in a game. Raiding and PvP isn't for everyone just like the grinding PvE isn't for everyone. I find the PvE to be the most enjoyable part of the game usually though I have taken part in the other two on occasion. I can say that WoW has a lot of fun content on the way up to max level. A lot of the quests may be kill x or go to y, but there are a lot of fun quests regardless if you do solo or group. If you like puzzles you may enjoy the sunken temple. It's one big puzzle but you will need a small group for it. Enjoy.
I guess that depends on you determination to get to the max level. I leveled a lot of alts and went back to make sure I found all the content. It seemed I always missed something. It was a long time before I found all the different quests in the different towns as well as completing all the different quests for all the different instances.
I never liked EQ2 even from the start, i dont see whats so great about it i leveled to 40 and had to stop, i played on AB one of the higher played servers and it felt lonely and dreary.
