I tend to play Warrior-Rogue types. Not swashbucklers, per se, but close I guess. In games where such a combination isn't possible, I play a warrior to familiarize myself with the game, a Rogue once I've gotten to know how things work, and a Mage as a final character choice.
In one game I played for 4 years (which has now gone completely to crap and lost all of my devotion), I started out as a Warrior...then 2 years later they allowed people who were level 99 to become another class (sub-classing; kinda like Humans could dual class in 2nd Edition Dungeons & Dragons). At that point, my character became a rogue. Once again, Fighter-Thief combo made what I saw as a perfect character.
I think the role I take least is that of the priest/healer, unless you count Bard...because I don't think I've EVER played a Bardic class... It's not that I can't handle the job or think it's boring, it's just not prefered. The priest I made in the aforementioned game (with the Warrior who went Rogue later) never died a single time in all of his 99 levels and people were always complimenting him on how he kept all the "buffs" on people at all times. Priest class characters just aren't my first, or even second, choice.
Personally, it's always a toss up between two classes. Priest/cleric and a monk. I'm never really into the level grinding, so the cleirc is most suitable for me, so I can at least help people out. And, since I like to solo more then anything else, the monk usually seems to be the best option for me.
Healing/support classes. I enjoy the aspect of being the backbone of a group. While you might be the first to be yelled at when the group dies, if you know your character well enough, people will worship you.
After that, I love archer classes, tank classes (I prefer to run up and kick the crap out of something rather than running away in cloth). I've never really gotten into a mage class; I can play one for a bit, but it doesn't keep me enthralled. And rogue classes do nothing for me.
