I haven't been playing WoW for a while now, but I have been keeping up on developments in the game. I understand Blizzard attempted to implement a system that attempts to better match opposing teams in the battlegrounds. For those of you currently playing in the battlegrounds, I would like know how the changes worked out.

Its still hit and miss, cant see it being any other way, but in the end it all comes down to teamwork.. the better team always win.. gear helps ofc.
Twinks control every bracket up to 60, and when you're 70 it's even worse. The PvP in this game is 10% skill 90% gear, and if you've said otherwise you haven't PvPed that much.
EDIT; Meaning it's exactly the same as before, but with more twinks.
Im sorry but if you think that an epic teir 5 clad warrior played by "noob" can beat a green clad experience warrior (same spec) then dream on... same for all other classes.
Played WoW for 2.5 years and always PvP so I have PvP'ed enough to know this.
Yeah, it sounded too good to be true and you know what is commonly said about that.
Nierro... I cant help but stare at your sig in sheer amazement and hilarity... lol That is just f'in classic

Played (In order of favorite first to least): DAOC, EQ2, EVE, WOW, Vanguard, AC2, City of __, Guild Wars, LOTRO, EQ, Sword of New World, FFXI, Lineage 2, Second Life, DDO, Anarchy Online, RF Online, Archlord, Uru, Ragnarok Online, Shadowbane, Planetside, Auto Assault, Ryzom, Matrix Online, Horizons, Entropia, Sims, Runescape, Lineage 1, AC1, Dungeon Runners
If pvp is your thing i STRONGLY advise you to stay away and save ur money for WAR/AoC where it looks like at least some attempt is being made to ensure balance
I realy dont understand why people think WoW is unbalanced in PvP.
Like many other games including WAR... classes in wow are unique there is not 5 types of tanks whoes only difference is they weild an axe, sword or mace.
PvP is fine and balanced (IMHO), roll a different class or play more PvP and learn some tactics. Too many times I see holy priests in Battleground trying to DPS when they should be supporting their team and healing. Or a Warrior beating on a pally who is just out-healing his damage yet he still plugs way.
To be clear, this post had nothing to do with individual class balance. It was more of a question about the issues around matching up a team of players in green gear with a team of players in purple gear.

Wow is your first game, right? A PvP system cant be more unbalanced than the wow one (I played until rank 12 in the past). Blizz works on the classes since release, and they'll never get a good balance
That's a good one. The core reason bg's are unbalanced is because more pvp players are attracted to horde than alliance. Why else would horde's q's be shorter and they win more games? People who want to beat up on other people will most likely want to be and look as bad as possible. It's not because they put in more hours into the game, nor are there more horde than alliance--just look at warcraftrealms.com. Alliance players put slightly more time in on average and make up most of the population. Gear? Sure, since Horde pvp more they have better pvp gear. Warhammer. OMG, have you compared the factions? The contrasts are much more defined then in WoW. Good guys look gayer and bad guys look cooler, so how could it be any more balanced knowing that chaos will have a huge pvp following?

Played AO for 1 year, CoH for 6 months, Diablo 2 (an MMO of sorts) for a year... so no not my first MMO.WoW PvP is fine your just probably not very good at it, one of the players that go into tunnel vision in PvP where you don't look at the battle as a whole, the kind of player who jumps off your mount to join 5 others in killing 1 enemy instead of moving on to take base or help the flag carrier. I see too many of those types of players in WoW.
But I say again no game can 100% balance all classes to be good against all other classes.. WoW does a good job though.. and thats my opinion as an experienced PvP player.
Rank 12 just means you played PvP more than others.. does not mean you were any good though.
Ignore the "WoW is your first game remark", it's needlessly condescending, and isn't even relevant to a lot of us 'fanboys', considering I played PvP in EQ and EQ2 and those games don't hold a candle to WoW. There are no MMOs out there with truly 100% perfect balanced PvP. Any game that lets to improve your avatar is going to be imbalanced to some extent, but only if you define imbalance in this way.
Gear does play a role but that's the whole point. You can whine about how other people are stronger than you, or you can *gasp* play the game, do battlegrounds, or the arena, World PvP (Which has improved in Outland significantly) and improve your gear. Sure, the best gear takes a lot of time investment, but with diminishing returns, leaving you with a perfectly playable gap in order to beat people.
Having players that are stronger, or weaker than you adds a new dimension that balanced gameplay cannot offer. If you see that guy in a full suit of uber gear you know you're going to need help, and you plan accordingly.
You can either have a game with weak, diluted, or quick to attain rewards and be 'more balanced' for everyone, or you can have rewards that are actually worth working towards, despite adversity, and be happy when you finally get them.
IMO WoW is probably the only MMO, other than EVE, where the PvP doesn't feel tacked on or utterly boring. I suppose DAoC is regarded by hardcore fanboys as being better but that's not reflected in it's success.
That said, EVE is probably the only game that offers something truly different. With all the improvements made to WoW with TBC, most of my issues with the game are gone. My only gripe at the moment is I wish you could have flying-mounted combat, as flying in Outland is absolutely amazing and dogfights would be truly remarkable.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
I enjoyed reading your input. You made some great points. I freely admit that my PvP skills and my gear are very poor; I don't have tons of time to invest into the game. I think we all have agreed that being competitive is not just skill, it is about gear too. Sure, if I had continued to play, I may have eventually geared up sufficiently so that my competitiveness would be based more upon my skill. I also don't mind being someone's pwnee from time to time. It's cool. However, I feel it sure would be a lot more fun to have skill play a larger role as I earned better and better gear and worked on my skills. When your survivability is very low, it is really hard to build skill too. I was just hoping that with more closely matched teams, the PvP experience would be more enjoyable for everyone.
Which level are you playing at?
Whilst gear does make a significant difference, the difference is far more marked at low levels. Whilst at level 19, a twink may kill a poorly geared player in a single blow, and be able to regularly win against 2 or 3 to 1 odds, at level 49, people aren't commonly killed in a single blow (even by a twink).
Winning a 1 v 2 battle at 49, even as a twink, requires some skill and winning a 1 v 3 battle requires either an ideal class combination or that the enemies are incompetent.

I was last playing in the 10-19 bracket and I definitely experienced what you described concerning the lower brackets. Most of what I did was in the level 60 battlegrounds after the switch in the honor system prior to the BC expansion. Many who did not have the time and or inclination to raid, like myself, were very excited about having an epic gear progression path. I updated what I could to blue to try to compete and I installed mobs and the like to help out too, but nothing seemed to change my perceived survivability. In the vast majority of 1 on 1 encounters I found myself in, I would get smoked very quickly and I would barely touch the other player. The funnest fights were the rare cases where I found myself up against someone else geared similar to myself. The fight would last a little while and you really had a chance to practice something. Perhaps what I was running into the vast majority of the time were raiders with top tier equipment waiting for BC. Perhaps my experience would have been different in the 50-59 bracket if such a thing existed at the time. BTW, thanks again for all the discussion everyone.

balanced?
well.. first your a hunter, and second warlocks. ive played both classes and nothing is balanced in PvP about them. the only way they could balance this game is if they made all classes as good as shamans....
