I have one very MAJOR problem with this. You are supposed to be a capsuleer, one of the elite ship captains that live in your pod filled with fluid, you are fed and live inside your pod. This update while super cool and something I'm looking forward to from a gameplay standpoint, really contradicts the Lore of New Eden. I suppose if they make it so your ship is unable to be moving when you are out of your capsule that'd only deviate a little from the lore, or while you were in warp. If they work it out from a story and logistics standpoint by developing some new technology like capsuleer detachment technology, then I'd be more ok with it.

Very exciting none the less, those graphics look insane.

Unless you're a roleplayer, there is absolutely no point to even bother with the new avatars. The only places you can get out of your ship are stations. You cannot land/walk on planets. You cannot fight on the stations. All you can do is walk around and chat.

    Whoopee.

    Fail.

You're so horribly wrong i don't know where to start. Oh right.

Pod pilots can and do exit pods when docked according to lore. And nowhere they said you were going to do this in space. What would be the point anyway? All you'd have would be crew NPCs around and when a hungry pirate came around and killed the ship you're on  you'd be dead forever. Heh.

Don't know if you all remember E&B but it made the game fun. To walk around in station, hang out in the bar. they even had hidden discos in some stations, were if you slid along the wall you would slide into the room. It will definitely add allot of social interaction to the game.

will see if the game holds me around till then...

Been hearing about this for three years now, the trouble is they can't even get half the features they promise with each patch to live. Whatever happened to player owned sentry guns? Anyone remember factional warfare? How about atmospheric flight? Well the player owned sentry guns were just never discussed by CCP. The factional warfare was promised all the way but just didn't happen when the new patch was live, instead they nerfed the system for declaring war and made it impossible to maintain a war declaration since it's easily exploitable. Atmospheric flight has been talked about/promised for as long as ambulation, I remember a video they showed off at a faire and some interviews (much like this) over a year ago now I hear nothing of it.

If they implement this and make it worth while this side of 2010 I'd be shocked, I mean you can sit and look at a map with your mates in a station ............... and? Oh yeah you can walk around and look at "cool" stuff ........... and? Oh yeah they've promised you can fight and do socalize and do this that and the other ....... sounds more like CCP letting some fanbois cream himself on their forums rather than a real honest and informative run down of the situation! In closing I could sum up this project by saying Darkfall or if you're lucky Vanguard!

    I'm not a hater, just a realist.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Problem is that this is purely Roleplay addon.

But EVE players and developers hate roleplayers with passion. Actually the main problem of EVE its that is designed for ganker in mind, from ground up.

I mean , when lead game designer is calling miners CAREBEAR (which is deragatory term in mmo slang...and yes you know it)

So designing a feature that brings, nothing...apsolutely nothing to PK player ... that is just waste of time in EVE

At least they mentioned miners, log in and try to find a player that has a trader as main. With 20-30 thousand players online there will certainly be a few out there.... right? I will be generious and give you 24 hours to find one... err not enough time? A Week then?

This sounds awsome, if it come thru and they end up with planetary combat. EVE could end up being the next gen sci fi if they play this right. I will sub if you can leave the ship.

Sad really. So much wasted potential

I used to wander why there is no more traders, crafters ... etc

Than i realised that EVE is designed to cater to PK player.

Remember the slogan of Interplay "Designed by the gamer for the gamers"

Slogan of CCP should be "Designed by PK for PKers"

Nothing wrong with that. I mean for each his own.... but puting only RP element into clearly PK only game

Seems like many people are getting ahead of themselves.  I'm pretty sure there won't be any combat, so why even mention it ?

This isn't a bad thing obviously, it isn't great either. Just a halfassed way of shutting up the I want to see my character crowd.

the penalty for getting out of your ship is:  you're basically a under muscled cripple that a 5 year old could smash to bits by accident, you'll catch something as common chicken pox and die, and you run the risk of being completely paralyzed and unresponsive to your enviroment.

    just like lore.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Err what are you on there are thousands of us in eve  While it is true that eve is predomanently PvP based unlike most other games on the market. There is however  a big industrial based community in eve. hence the need for factories and blueprints etc.

5000 solar systems, with an average of 7 planets each. If you could walk on planets, it'd spread the players out TOO much and there would be much less interaction. I'm not sure if I'm against or for the ambulation patch but I do know it will be quality stuff.

I hope one day you can actually take other players on your ship, one guy flying it as normal in EVE and the others maintaining the inside E.G Manning turrets and mining equipment, fixing broken pipes and engines, that would be cool "Pilot LF Engineer". Very good.

I think this will be good for EVE.

    Respect to EVE

But i had a long talk with one of veteran players that explained me EVE in this plain words. And i quote:

EVE is not based on ELITE or Freelancer (comment - for one that do not know Elite is grandady of space trading&combat sims).

The developers used to be Ultima Online players that left UO when PVP got "soft". Their main goal was to make world even more ruthless than UO in its most PK chaotic days. They chose space setting because it fitted this style of gameplay.

Conclusion. EvE is game created by pvp/pk gamers for pvp/pk gamers. People that do not have interest in such things (or it is not their main interest) will always be outsiders. Things like crafting and trading are just there to supplement , and will always be put into background.

This is why walking avatars may be cute , but bring nothing to real EvE player

All true exept that over the years the non PvP crowd has grown to be pretty big. Hey even most PvP'ers do it too to support there habit.
