Im surprised this game has no blood

This is a bit of a good thing, since Blood might make the game rated M, and MMOs that are rated M sell like crap, but really, the first one had a little blood, this one doesn't have any in the vidoes or screenshots.

The original EQ only had blood in enviroments, never in actual combat scenarios. You would see pools of blood on the floor and fountains of bloods. I wouldn't dout we will be seeing these type of things return in EQ2. We have seen only no more then 5 different zones in the game so far... the game has ALOT more we havent seen.

so there's a chance the game will be rated M?

    no

    why not?

Because Sony knows that a large percent of their customers are minors and by making the game a Mature rating they make the game harder for them to purchase, and more parents will prevent their kids from playing.  It's a good idea to have it at a lower rating, but as with XBox Live, once you're online the rating kind of goes out of whack since other players can act like G rated or NC-17 heh.

Anyway, I have seen a few screenshots with blood in the backgrounds, but thats how it worked in EQ as well.  Deep dungeons and skeleton areas have dried blood on tables and the ground etc.

did SOE actually say this? I think it is a bad idea to rate MMOs M, but do you think they are aware of that? I can get M games, but my brother plays MMOs too, and he can't play my M games.

From SOE's point of view, having the game as it is expands there product to teens and adults alike. Had it had a Mature rating, SOE would lose out on some income due to Parental Advisory, but in all honesty, the Mature tag will not keep the immature from playing.

No matter where you go, what you do or who you're with, there will always be a jerk off trying to ruin your day.

Whoever said that the game will be rated M? We are just stating that the game will probably have blood in the enviroment as detail and not in the game as a violence aspect like GTA or MK. This will allow the game to be kept to a T rating, Just like the original EQ. They will though have a notice stating that the rating could raise while online due to peoples language and conduct but not because of the games content... all online games have this kind of warning since you cant really control the players attitudes and language.

So if there is a dungeon with blood splatterd every which way, it will be Teen? Plus the good graphics might make it more M-Rated

You make zero sense.  The inital comment was that someone was surprised there was no blood in combat.  But the discussion branching from this is that there is blood in the game, just not in combat, because if there was blood in combat it might raise the rating to one of M.  If the game has a rating of M, some of the younger audience may not be allowed to buy the game (or their parents won't allow them to play it).  That would make Sony lose money, so they most likely left it out.

I don't know how you would think better graphics "might make it omre M-Rated".  That doesn't make sense at all, but regardless I think it would be stupid to see people bleeding in a 45 minute fight, just not enough blood in the body.  Plus there is enough going on the screen that we don't need more particle effects to slow the system down.

    edit: fixed a few errors

It would hurt their sales if the game was released for Mature only.  Theres no need for any blood in combat.  With how long some battles can last, seeing blood spurt and gush over and over with every hit would just be more of a nuisance.

Ok, let's say the game Body Harvest for the n64 is remade. That game had blood. If the devs put much better graphics and there was the same amount of blood, the game would be rated M. That's what I mean

Ya kinda funny the direction the topic took. No i dont think there will be blood effects when fighting and im sure there will be blood in places around the enviroment such as dungeons, but this shouldnt make the game M rated and the gfx level has nothing to do with the rating.

Although the game never really took off... Asherons CAll 2 had the most amazing graphics I have ever seen, which included blood.  As you fought a monster, the more damage it took, the more cut up and mangled it would become, eventually developing enormous wounds, bleeding, and even holes in its body before dying.  This feature, along with the comic mode, (Wham, smack, kerplow, things appearing every time you hit) could be turned off, which could be an option (the realistic blood mode) for EQ2.

This is the beginning of my past. This is the end of my journey.

    IT WILL NOT!

No offense but are you really slow or something? For the game to get an M rating it must contain more then just blood, it has to contain excessive blood/gore and violence like Mortal Kombat or Resident Evil.

A game can have blood, gore and violence without getting an M rating, like Champions of Norrath on the PS2 or the Console Baldurs Gate Series... or even Splinter Cell. They all have some blood and violence but they aren't to the point where its buckets of blood like Doom, Quake or Resident Evil.

ESRB Rating: image Teen (Content suitable for persons ages 13 or older.)

Just go to Amazon.com there you can buy the pre release version. As you can see they sell the game as rated Teen.. and say it will be released on sep 15..

It doesnt matter if it has blood or not in combat. I mean, look at the fight scene in "Matrix: Reloaded" when Neo was fighting 100's of Smiths, that had no blood and that still kicked ass.

Glad someone read the thread image

Its not about being good or bad if blood is in the game, the thread is about the rating of the game if it does have some blood. The answer is it will ALWAYS be T and have some blood since it wont be excesive.

I'm not really convinced it is going to be rated M, because SOE knows better, but we haven't seen everything yet. We may see a dungeon that has blood and guts splattered everywhere on the walls

That doesnt matter... For a game to get an M rating it must be excesive violence AND blood/gore. In EQLive on the Plane of Fear it would rain blood... and in Plane of Hate one of the monsters you faught was a severed hand! You often got heads, eyes, brains and other body parts from corpes but the game was still Teen Rated because it was not grotestc like Mortal Kombat or GTA where you would see some getting shredded or beat down with a bat. There needs to be violence assiscieated with the blood to get the Mature Rating.

So for the LAST time, Everquest 2 will be rated TEEN! It will NOT EVER be rated Mature.
