Hi all, I'm just wondering wether my current pc will cope with AoC. The plan was to keep it until AoC release and then buy new components. I haven't found any minimum requirements from Funcom yet, just thought I'd hear your opinion. I'm not very skilled with overclocking, but there seems to be some options for it in the BIOs actually.
intel core 2 duo E6700 2.67 ghz
P6N Sli Platinum nForce-650i
Corsair twin2x 6400 DDR2, 2mb RAM
Geforce 8800GTS 640 mb GDDR3
I'd really like to use the highest video settings possible, and with say 100+ players on a battlefield I doubt this will work. But maybe a few levels into the game, until I get new rig?
Btw, is 64-bit hardware / Vista something I should go for? I usually only play one MMO at a time, so if I start on AoC I'll probably stick with it for awhile.
(Playing WoW atm, signed up for beta cause I've never tried betaplaying before )

Welcome to the AoC section of mmorpg.com!
To be honest we know little about minimum specs required to run AoC at this point in time. However, Funcom have stated several times that the game will be highly scable for all the different machines out there.
First of all I would say they you would be able to play AoC very comfortably with the rig that you have in my opinion. So much so you wont need to overclock. Thats really an enthusiast thing and would only really give you a mild boost in game.
Now to what we know, we know they say if you can play Oblivion then you will be able to play AoC no problem.
This site here > Link has a preliminary system requirement for the game, you can also test your system here for the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
One of the developers > Athelan, has stated a few times he plays from his laptop (a Dell) which has 2gb ram and a go 7950 512mb GPU. all at 1900x1200 resoluton.
We also know that some of the PC's they use at conventions have WinXP with 2 gigs of memory, and the video card is a 7900 GTS.
The game will also be optimised to run a 64-bit version of windows too - so no worries there if you have that version.
Goto remember lag can be "either client" side or "server side" so net speed and server location will matter with "100+ players on screen"
Best advice to give you is to read this thread here: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=33851
and the links in it too for the latest info.
Anyway, glad you signed up for beta! good luck and welcome to the community proper
Thank you for that, my rig isn't that bad, but I've seen with several games that have extreme graphics that they usually require more than recommended, especially for the heavy load in a big battlefield filled with players and spells.
Do you know what net speed is required? a 1Mbit/0.5 Mbit line should be more than enough?
And the server location? Will there be US/EU servers? I saw they said they would localize with German and French. Maybe english servers in UK?
Thanks for all the info, would be fun to get beta
Again not much news to go on servers, but players will be able to play with others from around the world. I believe the game is being localised in Germany and I think maybe France too. People speculate prob servers in Oslo, Amsterdam and N. York so far, but we won't know for sure until closer to release, for example there is a petition for Ocenanic servers going on. That connection sounds good to me
From what I've experienced with online fps games the latency seems pretty important, so it will be interesting to see where they are gonna locate servers since it's more of real time combat.
Latency doesn't seems as important in games like WoW, I've manage to play with some 1000ms lag, only PvE though. But maybe they'll put in some game mechanic that will compensate for the lag.
Also it will be interesting to see how many servers they will set up, and what types. I really like that they have made the game possible for FFA PvP, and that they would consider setting that up if the interest was good.
