Are the big US gaming sites like gamespot and IGN shunning this game?
While most German gaming sites hype TCoS as the hidden jewel of MMORPG, American sites must have decided not to talk/write about it anymore?
Why?
let me quote IGN :
The Chronicles of Spellborn
We haven't seen or heard much about Spellborn International's online world in North America for a while, largely due to having no publisher for this market. However, development seems to have been moving ahead nicely. One of its most noteworthy features is the fact that weapons and armor don't have inherent statistics that affect your choice of using them or not. This means your avatar can look however you want without penalty. Another is a combat system in which player skill matters; i.e. it's not completely driven by statistics and virtual dice rolls.
I think this exactly points out spellbinders biggest problem, no publisher in the US means no attention in US media which (as we all know about these sites leading position) points out the low hype about this game.
Well, i know that if i wanted to make some extra money and had a few dollars spare, i would invest intoo this jewel. Sadly, i only have a 9 to 5 job.
For this game to succeed they need to hype .....a lot of hype, and they need it fast as it will release later this year (before christmass) which is well ahead of some major competition.

I guess it's up to people like us to hype the game for now. I know I'm trying my hardest, I'm even using subliminal messages!.
(+> PLAY SPELLBORN <+)
Whoops, sorry, that was my super-liminal message.
Anyway, I think the main reason that they don't have an publisher for North America yet is because most people might see it as too big a risk. It's a small company from the Netherlands making what I think is their first MMORPG, usuing a number of new and inovative gameplay elements. European companies are usually more open to risky business decisions, but U.S. companies are often more conservitive. It's a tragedy, really, because I think the only reason Spellborn could end up not doing so great is if it doesn't get enough marketting.
Also, another big factor is that for the game to do well, the developers really need to stick to their vision, and some publishers like to lord over eveything the development team does and ensure they can milk the game for all the profit that it's worth. If something like that happened, it could destroy Spellborn very quickly. They need to be really careful picking a publisher. I mean, if they went with SOE, a significant number of people would refuse to play the game just because of the publisher.
I say it's a good idea for them to wait. Releasing later could be bad because of the competition from WAR and AOC, but getting a bad publisher would be just as catastrophic, if not more so.
Maybe I should point out that TCoS has not had much media attention in Europe either. I think SIL is holding back till they are certain about release. Although the dev journals are starting to get attention and are drawing some attention to the game now.

Just to point out how small this games fanbase is:
The website has 90.000 members/beta aplications where Warhammer online had more then 4.000.000
With so few people knowing about this game, even if it is as good as i suppose it is, the game will get a hard time to pull off a successfull start. It needs way more hype.
On the officiall website there is almost everyday a new developer write-up with nice info, which is very good for the current fanbase......but it does not attract new possible players.
Getting word out for this game to succeed is of utmost importance.

Sounds like an opportunity for Sony publishing to swoop in and rescue them! Set them up with a deal like potbs and vg ( ' ;
*sits back and waits for the screams of anguish and the ridiculous claims that of not playing anything SOE is involved with*
Here's my particular opinion about lack of "hype" for TCoS' Spellborn. Actually, it's probably a good thing that they really haven't released much info about this game if you think about some of the issues other games have had. Chronicles of Spellborn is simply not ready as of yet. The developers will release info in bits and pieces taking care not to release too much.
All in aal it's a wonderful idea to keep this a secret until the month that TCoS decides to go Open Beta. Atr that time, hype, hype, hype to your hearts content!

Just gimme some truth

Just wait for some big game magazines to do some articles on TCoS...the you will have the real hype.
And i guess it will be as dropping a bomb into the MMO worldwide community. From what i understand, TCoS is so good it can "speak" for itself.
""What lies hidden, must be found ..." probably reflects on the game itself
I am kinda surprised that the official TCoS website only has 90,000 registered users because they have been on the Most Hyped list on the front page here at mmorpg.com for quite a while. I would think that with all the people who travel through this site that more would find their way over to TCoS...
Ohh well, as long as they find that elusive US Publisher who wont meddle with the game mechanics, all will be well.
How many people actually do visit this site? It says that there are 655,470 member. Most of those will probably not visit anymore, but there are non-subscriber visiting this site too. The guest/member visitor ratio is about 8. Not everyone interested in the game will register to their forums. No, the number of subsribers to their site certainly does not depend on mmorpg.com. Nor of any other game for that matter. Other channels must be more important.
400.000, not 4.000.000. Warhammer is hyped by a big part of the wow gamers, Spellborn is a newcomer. A quarter of the War numbers isnt so bad.
And WAR had a very big community before it become a MMO.
I found out about TCoS on the WIthin Temptation fan website, Im a big fan of their music and also a MMO player. When I actually looked into TCoS I was suprised at how refreshingly unique it looked.
Hopefully the more people will discover this game and hype it some more and it will find a US publisher.
Now, personally, I have no issues with SoE as a dev. They have screwed up big time in the past and I hate their approach towards LoN, but they seem to be learning as they go and I can accept mistakes as part of that.
But... PLEASE never let them get their hands on CoS lol. They have absolutely no idea how to promote/ market a game and honestly just don't seem interested in doing so.
Controversial I know, but I would like to see MS adopt this game and use it to fill the gap left by VG as their flagship games for windows MMORPG.
Anyone else got preferences where they would like to see it end up?
Totally correct if my experience of EQ2 is anything to go by. SoE have let the devs of that game down massively, which is why it has a fraction of the players WoW has.

EQ2 is an awesome game......But EQ2 is in the habbit of letting people pay to play beta's. EQ2 and them forcing Sigil to release Vanguard early.
Next to that Vesavius hits the hammer right on the head...SOE totally refuses to promote their own games.

Preferences? No, but MS as publisher might cause conflicts with their present publishers Mindscape and Frogster, but MS could sell them out of course. I never heard of Frogster and Mindscape before and I kind of expect to see a relatively unknown (at least to me) publisher for North America.
As I have stated in another thread, Ryzom's seeming fall-to-be provides an opportunity for mass player pick-up, on both sides of the pond. I know of quite a few Yanks who play Ryzom (self included) that may be looking for a new home.
