I'd suggest the classic servers.  It doesen't matter wich since all 3 are clustered together.  You'll get the most population there and have plenty of low level people to play with till you get the hang of all the things.

As per the class suggestions, you have to answer a few questions first.  Do you want to be a tank, a caster, a healer, maybe you'll like a bow user or even try one of the rogue classes and kill people from stealth.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

There are definitely hybrids. My knowledge is only of early years of DAoC so if they added classes that are hybrids I probably don't know about them. Anyhow the hybrids that I know of are the Paladins for Albion, Champions for Hibernia, and Thanes for Midgard. I personally played a Thane which was a blast Nuker/Warrior.

What are you looking for in a  class? Daoc has the best classes ever so its there.

    PETs?

    Nukes?

    Super melee?

    Tank?

    Hybrids of everytype?

    Unique classes?

    IT has them all.

If you want easy to level classes ill out line them .. also i would play on classic servers becuase i find them fun (garth lamorak , ector?)

Alb- easy classes (strong solo)- 1) friar - these guys are tuff and can keep killing stuff non stop. 2) heretics - also kill stuff and also tuff but not as eleet solo as a frair (alot of people do not understand what 18 in flex does for you). 3) sorc - caster rarly make it on my easy to lvl and strong solo classes but sorcs are so amazing so they do.. take a bit more skill tho. 4) necro - odd class you are a pet well you play through your pet .

You can pm me if you want to know about spec etc, and if you want to roll a toon with me let me know where .. cuz im up for that.

Mid- 2) Valkyre - these guys are great soloers and really are strogn end game also -but they are slightly slower starters 3) bone dancer - easy to play and level but nto as fast as some other classes.

Hib- 1) Vampir - easy to lvl, strong, non stop killing, great class. (casts and melee at the same time odd class, but fun). 2) WArden - easy to lvl non stop killing not a super hard hitter but it hits super super fast so that can make up for it some. 3) light/mana mentalists - odd combo but works well it gets  a power regen buff to keep power up and get pleanty fine  nukes, also charms a pet. (easy , fun)

And maulers which are all sides are also easyer toons to level.

If i had to say what classes are very very easy to level id say (in order) Friar, Vampiir, Heretics, Maulers, WArdens, sorcs, mentalists, necros, bonedancers, valkyres. And maybe just maybe reaver if you know how to get equipment.

That being said if you roll yourself a hunter/scout/ranger (archer) then in pvp you'll always have fun even solo.

The raids in DAoC are not gonna be like the ones you are familliar with from WoW...  Most are done with a full group (8 players) unless you're raiding one of the very large dungeons or killin a dragon.  In that case basically they get 1 tank, a healer and a buffer and then just invite anybody who wants to come along.  There is very little planning that goes into it.  It's not like WoW where you have to have a certain number of healers or a certain number of damage dealers.  The numbers of people in these raids can be anywhere from 10 people to 100 people and the items are then randomed for at the end.  The good thing in DAoC is that most of the time if you can use the item to some benifit to yourself they will let you roll for it.  For instance, if a gem drops with stats on it and you are a caster and the stats on it are good for you and a healer both of you will roll on it.  They will never tell you NO you can't roll cuz this is a paladin only weapon or Warriors take presidence over you... none of that.

There are quite a few hybrid classes.  I forgot to mention those.  There are Tanks, Light Tanks wich are more focused on dealing damage then absorbing, healers, buffers, casters, ranged archers, and assassins.  The hybrid classes range anywhere from tanks with insta nukes to friars, who use a staff to fight, have good dodging abilities and can heal people.  On top of all that there are usually 2 different tanks with variations to their skill sets.  Same with mages.  There are usually 3 different types to choose from, sometimes 4 and then you have 3 different ways of specialising their skills by choosing from 3 different spell lines or choose to spread your points around.

This game also has the healer class wich in most cases not only heals, but can buff people and use crowd controll spells such as area mezmerise and area stun, or area root as well as single target variations of those spells and some debuffs as well.  The buffers are a heal/buff hybrid that enhances the party's effectiveness and has the ability to strip buffs from the enemy ( buff sheering )  I forgot to mention that at least 1 caster will be a sort of pet class, like the Warlock I suppose from WoW.  They get a pet and various other abilityes, such as nukes, life drains and meny others that would take too long to explain.

On top of all of this, you have 3 realms to choose from, so in total there are qute a few variations of everything and it would take me a few pages to describe everything to you.  Don't even get me started on all the different weapons and the weapon styles (attacks) there are

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Here's some helpful sites you can go to and read up on the various classes as well as figure out how you wish to specialise:

classesofcamelot.com  - This place has a list of all the classes, a basic writeup of what they do and what they are as well as a longer more detailed explanation.  At the bottom it will give you a list of their abilities, and the various specializations you can choose as you progress through the levels.

www.camelotherald.com  - Mythic's site with everything to do with Dark Age of Camelot.  You can see the server population, keep status, look up people or guilds and see their statistics and how they relate to others or even you.  The front page will have a section on it where the developers, customer service reps, and community managers post problems, reasons for server downtimes, latest patch notes, and all that good stuff you might want to know.

daoc.catacombs.com  -  This site has a handy character planner that will help you figure out how much you wish to train in particular skills your character has.  Since you get only a certain amount depending on your class it's usually wise to figure this stuff out so you don't have to kick yourself until your respec rolls around

vnboards.ign.com  -  This site has boards dedicated to all the servers found in DAoC, as well as class specific boards you can ask class specific questions and stuff.

There, that should cover most of the stuff.  If you need more help, post here and I'll see what I can do.
