I agree. The community for this game is gonna be terrible.

Obviously you guys have already experienced it :) in a fully finished working game speaking to people in it.

All I have are two words for you: Wacky Jack. I'm expecting to see him try and come after this game to get an AO rating like he did with San Andreas. And San Andreas didn't even show anything...

Between him and Hillary Clinton, expect some serious political clout to come up behind this game.

Nichole Richie, Warrior Princess.  Ugh that looks horrible.

It's very well animated and the armor sets are fantastic, but the character itself looks like a failed runway model with cheap implants who's been reduced to putting on fantasy outfits at video game conventions to pay her doctors bills.

There is nothing intimidating about a person with a stick figure body, nothing hot about it either really.  I don't see anyone with no muscles like that lasting more than a week or so in the world of Conan.  She'd collapse under any of that armor.

Although the armor and weapons and animations really do look great, very detailed and fluid.  Hopefully character creation is flexible enough that a halfway attractive female character can be made.  I really hope this is one extreme that we're seeing here.  Otherwise...ugh...so much for AoC having sex appeal.

Character Customization is a big asset for AoC, some links to show / get a glimpse of how it works.

The details you can goto are amazing and the most diverse i've seen in a game.

Hey, cool, that is very reassuring!! Thanks!

I'm going to transfer all the hype I was feeling for Tabula Rasa to this game now!

Well to be honest I believe there is an "Age" slider too, if that makes your  ass saggy then urrmm....

But it looks pretty diverse to me, im sure you could roll a "fat bloke" or near as dammit to one if you wished.

Im sure we will see more as time goes on.

gettin past the point of all the naked dancing for gold idiots, I wanna see just how far some of the more imaginative people will take their avatars.  I want to see all the humorous ideas they come up with cuz I know there will be some.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Thinking about this whole boob thing I was wondering if instead of just 2 boobs, maybe they should make it 3 boobs?  and if not would it be better if they just consolidated the 2 boobs into just 1 really big one?

Personally I hope they give me some kind of open pvp so that if I find an afk avatar just standing there in front of a topless female mob I can slaughter him with no remorse. But other then that I'm glad FunCom is sticking to their guns and going with the lore. The people claiming they are upset over all of this make up a rather small part of the entire community that intend to play AoC so I am quite frankly not worried. I don't know why I even got slightly upset. I must be loosing it image

I totally agree with you here. I personally could care less about the community in a game for one simple reason: As many asstards that you find, you will find just as many or even more awesome people to play with. This has been the case in every online game I have ever played.

I honestly think that it's the elitist type of personality(my opinion) that are the ones who constantly cries about such things. "I wanna role play in a world(barbaric, dangerous world) that uses other humans as playable characters, but I don't want it to mimic real life which I know will happen when using real people who may or may not be up to my standards of maturity in a VIDEO GAME. I am trying to spend my money on escapism to a fantasy realm where only my caliber of maturity exist, but I want to do it with other people instead of playing a SINGLE PLAYER GAME."

I'm sorry but it ain't, I mean ain't neva guna b dat way. If it was dat way den, well well I am truly sawry for ur loss. Maybe u da one who need to grow up and realize dat u can't escape the real world in a game with real players behind the controls of avatars.

That aside....boobies man! I'm gonna get to see boobies! (I'm so immature)

Funcom should just have a switch in the options to turn on 'Prude' mode. Replace the topless/naked models with barely clothed ones as needed for that person. A little extra artwork, but heck, they could just do the 'black bar' technique to cover up the essential parts.

    Why should they?

Those people who find the avatars awkward to look at would surely be just the same in playing the game with gore, blood, and dismemberment. (Theres a slider for blood/gore)

Funcom are making the game as best they can sticking true to the lore - and not to some "prudish" or religious types who scoff at its possible content.

I made a picture for you!

Enjoy the game for what it is on release!

Disclaimer: The opinions below are my own and not those of my employer Funcom

Regardless of whether or not you can turn off naked toons, regardless of whether or not you can turn off fatalities or blood effects, regardless of whether or not you have a language filter, you will have quests with themes which are unsuitable for children. You will also have demons and other monsters which look scary in the game. You will also have certain locations in the game that are unsuitable for a younger audience, and there is a limit to what we can provide funtionality for turning on/off. To illustrate this, let me take a hypothetical example:

Let's say we have a grouse model, and a quest designer requests a remodel or retexture of it to turn it into a scary weregrouse (yes, I know, an absurd example but I wanted this post to be teen-rated ) with a new material type, new textures, adjustments to the mesh (big white fangs or teeth), maybe some particle effects etc. If we then were to provide a setting in the options menu which allowed you to decide to "not see scary monsters in the game", we would run into the following problems:

    a) Some monsters don't have a "nice" version which could be shown as a fallback instead of the scary one, we would have to make these (additional gfx work) or use "suitable replacements" instead

    b) Swapping out meshes and textures depending on your preferences would require tool support and/or game code and/or rendering code

    c) The logistics of classifying which monsters and retextures are scary or not, planning and making "nice" versions or finding suitable replacements...

    d) Additional work for QA to doublecheck that this feature works as intended

    +++

To reiterate there is a limit to what we can allow you to turn on/off for technical and production issues as shown above. I honestly don't believe AoC will ever be a good replacement for Sesamy Street or Pokemon

as always; a great post  Avery

and of course it remains a valid point that our culture will put a mature rating on nudity - much less the suggeston of sexuality - but have no problem with violence.

...well thats changing - people are more and more wary of depictions of violence now (yet... or because... they are more wary of RL violence?) - but its still a valid point and your presentation of it; witty.

I can't imagine the truly prude being interested in a Conan IP ANYWAY however...

But again; i find it odd the amount of attention something like this gets in a genre that has no problem with the idea of people hacking away at each other with axes and undead "cannibalizing" corpses what not...

Someone better be having sex to repopulate after all the random KILLING you guys do GEEZ!

What was really disturbing was last night i bumped into a bikini-clad; dancing Undead girl - played by a fellow that just wanted to see.

Of course nothing "important" had decayed...Just most of her legs.

I didn't attend no. I couldn't see any spots on people sorry, but I did know 2 people who attended who were well into their 30's.

  • random11random11 Member UncommonPosts: 765

There were quite a few female attendees at the sunday presentation. In ratio, more married, adult people and women were present at AoC showcasings than at WAR.

But I won't draw any conclusions what so ever.

Fact is, most WoW players think WAR is just a PvP addon to their gaming experience, so they will be more likely to flock there, than to AoC ... and this is a good thing. At the same time, I believe WAR will have 3-5 times the follower base that AoC will have, but I am fine with that. Quality>>quantity.

Ok I like a nice set just as much as the next straight guy.  However it still shocks me how much debate some pixels in the shape of breasts causes out there.  I for one wont be playing AoC for the breasts however I do appreciate the realism they are bringing into the game.   I hate how most games make the chest go all blurry or whatever.   Its 2007 surely we can have topless women in games without official 'R' or even 'Mature' ratings stuck all over the package.   Its hilarious how countries like the US are fine with some barbarian hacking the heads of other players or even in Counter Strike taking another player down with a gun shot to the head.  Show a bit of flesh and its all arms up in the air screaming about protecting our innocent children and their holy eyes.  Give me a fking break!

WTH just have a EU sever only and they can have full nudity and mud wrestling as well.   Its all old school over here.

Besides kids can get just as much or even more real flesh just watching the RnB channel on Sky.

A woman's body is not wrong and should be worshipped...

  • slask777slask777 Member Posts: 706

Indeed. Seperate the US and the EU players to their own servers. So the whiners who get all freaked up about some titties, or a scwhang(sp?) can be on their little carebear, no nudity servers. Atleast here in Europe, we have outgrown the immaturity which seems to come from most americans. Hell, we even have partial/full nudity in children/teen cartoons. No sexual acts depicted though as that would be kinda tasteless, and unnecessary. Allthough I must admit we sometimes get some politician popping up now and then shouting about 'protectiong the children blah blah blah'. Most people just laugh and dismiss it.

Heh, in the US its ok to show violence, but not nudity, and in the EU, its ok to show nudity, but not violence.

    Weird, that.

Well i am also concerned about the risk of, the partial nudity would cause the game to be flooded with hormonal 13 year olds, but that risk is ofcause in every game, and i think the main flood of them, that will come from wow, would target warhammer, because of the similarity between wow and warhammer. Besides i always aim my social interaction in mmos, within a guild, so i could just target a 18+ guild.

    I think its weird !

"We" are afraid there will 13 year old kids drooling infront of the screen. But why would they pay 40-60 bucks and then 15 more every months just for boobs?

They can find that for free everywhere on the internet.
