EQI vs. EQII

MadTwoMadTwo Member Posts: 6

I am in the process of getting started on EQII and was wondering:  what is the difference between EQI and EQII?

I've played UO, AO, Entropia, COV, Shadowbane, Auto Assault and GuildWars, and am just wondering what the rationale of SOE to release EQII and still keep EQI around.

Speaking for myself (and only myself), EQ 2 is EQ 1 without EQ 1 frustrations, coercion, and problems.

MY EQ 1 Background:  Recruitment Officer on Nameless.  Raid Officer on Nameless.  Regular Member of a Raid Guild on Tribunal (great server, btw).  Guild Leader of a Raid Guild on Combine.  Officer of a Raid Guild on Sleeper.

    MENTOR SYSTEM

More to the point, e.g., the mentor system is excellent.  In EQ 1, if you wanted to start a new character, you basically had to hope others did.  You were prevented from leveling with your higher level friends.  In EQ 2, the mentor system works brilliantly.  Higher levels have an incentive to group with lower levels to 1) experience content and 2) complete Quests to 3) gain AA points.  [Many of my groups contain high levels.]

    COMMUNITY

I feel very embarrassed writing this, because I would talk about how great the Vanguard community is (using my unrepresentative guild as an example). I have had no issues in EQ 2.  The community is extremely helpful and welcoming.  [I hope it remains that way.  Some one from FFXI kept scrolling the chat on Antonia Bayle, and a few minutes later a GM said something about how to report and that person was *poof* gone.  The community and the staff of EQ 2 are less tolerant of immaturity than other games (WoW).]

    CLASSES

The fundamental classes are there, but you have more variety and more depth.  I was not sure at first if I liked the class system, but I actually love it.  I love how I can group with so many different classes.

    CONTENT & GAMEPLAY

I also feel embarrassed, again.  I would talk about Vanguard's far-reaching content.  The amount of content in EQ 2 for all levels is simply breathtaking.  I often do not mention it because there is so much and I do not know where to begin.  A large amount of "stuff" to do for soloers, groupers, small groupers, raiders, etc.  You have various collection Quests as well that I find to be great fun.  I enjoy the gathering and crafting system as well.

    DUNGEONS

It deserves it own section to briefly discuss.  The dungeons are awesome in EQ 2 and fully in the spirit of EQ 1; they are deep, challenging, and most importantly fun.  You have many Quests and things that are fun to complete in dungeons.  You can also grind if you want to as well.

    GRAPHICS & WORLD

The game is beautiful.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  You have a variety of means of travel.  I do not find the instant-click travel to be overly used.  Travel is not burdensome at all but still pretty much meaningful.  [Amazing audio as well, helps a lot with immersion.]

    OVERALL

You have great immersion, great community, fun and challenging content, a variety of options to do "stuff," and the Rise of Kunark expansion to be released soon that I suspect will expand on EQ 1 themes.  It is an exciting game, and I am about to log in right now!
