In my opinion, anyone who says TR is another "vanguard launch" is a bit mistaken. First of all, Vanguard had NOTHING to offer to the MMO society. Standerd classes, standerd everything, nothing special. As for you people who say its just laggy and crappy, try upgrading your crappy computer, first. Tabula Rasa is with one of the freshest MMO genres, MMOFPS. Unique for those who enjoy FPS, "crappy and laggy" for those who hate FPS.
let me just say that the repports of lag are mostly because of people playing in crowded instances of the starting zone. If you teleport to another instance of the zone, Latancy will drop drastically.
Otherwize bad preformance is as allways secured by using "old" equipment.
here is a few images (from a great looking game I might add) that shows preformance on my system with quite a few bells and whistles on
This game is NOT a new Vanguard!
the people that says so are simply not credible. Its plays very well on my system. I have not crashed ONCE! It has addictive and fast gameplay and YES...it does lack some content and fluff, but the core gameplay is fast, furious and FUN!.
The devs LISTEN to the testers and have added quite a few features that the betatesters asked for . NOT everything but as can be seen from Cupajos list -a lot of things have been passed on and while it might not be in the game for launch, I truely believe this one is a keeper that will grow and expand nicely after launch.
after todays patch the control-points were activated for real and waves of Bane came in to cap AFS bases -It was a blast to defend and recapture. I have not had as mush fun in an MMO for ages!
So
if you like sci-fi and are sick and tired of elves and orcs -If you like fast and furious teamplay with cool guns and equipment you will not be dissapointed when launch day comes along.
Yea, I agree with the last poster. I have only 1 gig of ram and I can run it on normal with no lag what so ever. My computer is not that uber either, 6800GT, 2.4ghz SINGLE core processor.
If you lag either turn your settings down a bit or go into another zone.
And to who ever said it was a single player game you obviously never have played it because I am always seeing people, they are everywhere, I went into a random cave and there were people all over the place.
This game should have a good release if they just tweak it a bit (like swimming animations dont work for me =/)
Otherwise this is a good game so far, I'm liking it, but not sure about buying it. I guess we will just have to see.
Well, I never had a serious performance problem, and I don't have a fast computer: it's a P4 3.0ghz with 2GB RAM and a 7600GT. As long as I don't max out, it's quite playable.
The bugs were not that much of a problem, either... Yeah, I'm playing Vanguard among other things, so I'm highly bug-tolerant. Besides, finding bugs is what you do in betas, right? As long as it doesn't get unplayable, I'm OK.
Still, I ended up playing it less and less even though I believe in really testing a game once you get a spot. The first couple of weeks was mindless fun, then it got less and less so. I think I'm among the few who had no "quality / performance" related problems with the game, but simply design-related ones. It got repetitive and utterly boring for me after a while; whatever I did just felt hollow.
This is not exactly a FPS game, and not a standard RPG at all, and sadly it did not feel to me like it fed off the good parts of the two genres. Maybe because FPS means all-out PVP to me, and RPG means rich, involved storylines and a lot of things to do other than kill mobs. This is an odd hybrid indeed. Pulled me in with its fast fun gameplay at first, but spat me out cold in a short time. I can imagine people liking it though. Well, we'll see
looks into his crystal ball... planetside with some neocron flavor... how popular are those games? this game will have a niche following but reamain one of the smaller mmo's

-------------------- 10 million people play WoW but I have yet to find one who admits liking it?!"
"Aion has the grind of EQ, the PvP of DAoC, and the smooth playability of WoW."
"They" (the big publishing corporations) HAVE learned the lesson of History...
The lesson of capitalism is that people are SHEEP and will bitch and moan and cry...
and then go out and buy the defective product at full retail anyway.
Anyone who buys products on day 1, based on ads and glowing reviews PAID for by the publishers deserves whatever they get. Why not wait 2 weeks and see if the release game is really stable.
Interesting to hear the release date announcement. Also interesting to hear the conflicting 'Game not ready/Game will be ready' chatter on Forums and sites.
Frankly, I don't care how many patches they implement between now and launch. History has shown us these kind of comments sprouting up before the launch of a game are never a good sign.
The kind of comments that *should* be sprouting up are "The game has been ready for a while, why don't they release it??" We've seen that before if people would bother to tax their memories of the successful recent online MMORPGs.
But it is Richard Garriott so we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. The question is whether he'll live up to his reputation. Keep in mind, we've also seen other 'father-figures' of MMORPGs take recent nose-dives if people would bother to remember.
Oh wait, they ARE remembering. We are ALL going to be watching TR this October.
But it is Richard Garriott so we have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Brad mcquaid part 2?Well in MR Garriotts defence brad straight up let sigil sink like a rock least Rich is out there kinda taking the bullet.I dont want TR to fail but with an end game were you start over with a new toon when you hit max lvl how can you not fail? You could have said the same thing about wow when it launched with no end game but the game was balls out fun to play with raids in the works.TR has no group based content planed let alone no raid content thats bean spoken of.Not even a hey later we "might" do something.
And to who ever said it was a single player game you obviously never have played it because I am always seeing people, they are everywhere, I went into a random cave and there were people all over the place.
What he meant is there is no reason to be in a group. The entire game is soloable. It is a singleplayer game with multiplayer capability, far as I'm concerned.
Sorry, I beta'd it for a month, before uninstalling. Garriott did indeed drop the ball on this one. Big time.
And there's no way in hell I'd ever pay 14.99 a month ( the price for the monthly subscription ) for it. A Guild Wars type payment would have been acceptable (only buying the game itself), but paying box AND sub fees for this is ridiculous.

..and that is exactly why WoW still reigns.
Sure it's not THE game, but at least its relatively more polished than half-assed rushed MMO's.
Idk how the other games are doing (SWG, EQ2, etc) but I'd say the only games worth playing are WoW and EvE.
So sad to see this rushed (assumed it is).
Bu theres still a small amount of hope...remember WoW beta ?It had crapload of bugs and server problems, then they released it and after the initial chaos it was the greatest time of 9583957823758 people playing. =P

Bugs aren't the problem. It's the game itself. The core gameplay is just not fun. All the content is same bland quest design. A few extra months of tweaking would not fix Tabula Rasa.
It needs a massive overhaul. Redesign the classes, redesign the skills, redo most of the quests, integrate a solid PvP system, add a lot more mob types and models, revamp the entire core gamplay and control scheme, and so on.
This is not a case an otherwise good being pushed too so early.
I'm the furthest thing from a pvp zealot, but this should have been Bane vs Human pvp title. I could only imagine the strategy and tactics involved if this were structured like DAOC.
This game doesn't have the " I gotta stay up one more hour till I ding even though its 3am and I have to go to work in 4 hours." factor.

Next!
This is what i wanted to say, have same feelings, For god sake, why do people tend to repeat same mistakes, unfinished, boring and expensive game.
So far so good! I am really liking the game! 2 thumbs up!! My machine is about 5 years old and though i could use a bit more ram it is running mostly lag free.

Tabula Rasa AKA The sci-fi version of vanguard.
Half-finished sloppy crap. Unluckily for them, a lot of people found out it was sloppy before they bought it.
Good bones with very little meat on them.
