Thestra is packed!

Ever since the server merges, Thestra has been packed with players on the Seradon server.  There are so many people in the Tursh chunk every night that the server lag spikes non-stop.

I did an experiment one night and did a /who in the Tursh chunk.  It came back cut off at a list of 40 because there were too many to list.  I then ran over to the chunk just south of Tursh and did it again.  Same response.

And, then last night while working on the URT quests in that chunk just south of Veskals Exchange, I noticed there was a lot of people as well.  In fact, the populous on the Thestran continent has grown so high that it is common to see people fighting over spawns for quests now.

I was just wondering, did everybody decide to play on the Thestra continent since the merge, or are the other continents this packed in with people as well?

Don't get me wrong.  I like having more people around on the server... just wondering if it is this way everywhere on Telon.

I believe four servers merged into the Seradon server, including the higher-population RP only server.

I found Thestra to be a lot busier then either of the other continents before merge so I'm not surprised that it's busier now.    Glad I'm on Qalia atm working on the Arena.

I just never was a fan of the Qalia continent in beta, so I haven't even tried Qalia yet since buying the game.  The whole middle eastern desert theme just doesn't appeal to me.

I think it would be tough to really sink yourself into more then one continent at a time and really "experience" it. In fact just starting out, its tough just to deside which race to pick because the starter areas are pretty well made, better then average, and its fun just to see how they all start out.

I have noticed a lot more people around, I joined a guild and have been grouping. Something I don't think I would have been able to do as easily as I am now, before the merge. I have only been playing a couple of weeks but aside from my hissy fits about the performance, so far so good. (its really not that bad for me at all, but I see where the game has issues based on the amount of fiddling around I had to do)

Yeah there is no doubt the game has performance issues, but it is a testament to how good the game design is that so many of us play through the bugs and performance issues in spite of all the haters telling us how bad the game is... haha

I will likely try out the Qalia continent after I get my Wood Elf Ranger to 50.  Right now I am loving the Thestra content.

So how is performance in cities with these extra people. Bad, worse or dire ? Better ?! I remember crowded areas in pre-release beta of the beta launch that VG didnt like crowded areas at all. Actually it just didn't like my rig at all.

A "packed" sever still isnt bringing me back to this game I'm afriad. The free trial awaits and I shall judge it mericlessly as mercilessly as the state the game was launched in. Which seems only fair after all.

Not to be a smart arse but I haven't seen a "packed city" yet. 10 or 15 people running around is about what I see, which TBH is what I see in most MMO's. /shrug. Now you go to towns in Lineage 2 (the reason I bring this up is again, because it uses the same engine) and you can easily have 50 plus people in shop mode sitting in front of you. Does it create some problems? Sure it does but not like this game. And I can run that on High. In fact any game I play using the unreal2 engine I can play on the highest settings with no problem, online or otherwise.

Its really hard for me to judge this games performance. Sometimes I have no problem and average 50FPS. Others, for no reason at all, it drops to an average of 20-30.

In groups its drops to that range but I am to lazy to change my settings. If I lowered them, or change my resolution, I'm sure it would improve. I refuse to alter my PC just because these &^%$& can't get their engine straight. Its their  problem, not mine.

The free trial isn't going to be the same as the main game so be cautious.

Yeah that's about what I see as well.  In Tursh I see 15 or more people running around even though the chunk itself has over 40 (no idea how many exactly cause the /who cuts off at 40).

We can only hope that some day they will get the graphics engine figured out. =)

My opinion is that Qalia is packed too, depending on the locale.  I think there was a miscalculation in projecting server populations after the merge.  You'd expect roughly 4X as many people on Seradon, but I think with returing players, excited about the merge, game update 2 or both, there are definitely more that 4X players.  For example, Leth Nurae had 5 players running around on average pre-merge... post merge it maxes at 40... that's more than 4X.  And in Khal, which was running 20ish folks pre-merge.. well heck, I coun't 38 just in the bank alone.

Ironic... but I call for a server split!!

Yeah. Apparently it will be indicative of performance when the rest of the game is "sorted". Though even the free trial runs the risk of me saying "ah improvment".. and then finding out SOE have no intention of fixing the rest of the game. I may utter some foul words here in a few months time if thats the case .. watch out admins !

My biggest qualm is the lack of a development kit for the SOE dev's to make new content as well. Not sure if SOE are developing one but I'd imagine thats a massive task in itself.

Still I'll try the free trial and be intruiged as to the state (or full potential) of such a  rushed game.
