Actually the last reported number of subscribers was 375K. I would venture that after things have settled down, and those that don't like it have left they're, at a stable 300K and enjoying a steady growth of subscribers.

Edit: Alas, I have been beaten by broken links and deleted files. I was unable to find the official source that quoted the number 375,000. However, I was able to dig up various posts by community members on the official site that regard the 375k quote. I still stand by my recollection of the 375K quote regardless of my inability to find the article/interview/post if for no other reason than the fact that several different users made reference to it.

What criteria are you using to make the statement that the game is still in a beta state? If you think that any MMORPG once released will never undergo any changes, then you are going to be severely dissapointed by all of them. They all go through sweeping changes over time. Some games are released in better shape and you can argue that SWG was released prematurley, probably due to financial concerns, but the game in it's current state is far removed from a beta state.

DAoC has roughly 100,000 accounts. It IS a successfull MMORPG. But it is NOT a leader of the Tolkien-themed/D&D-themed MMORPG industry.
AO has roughly 50,000 accounts. It has been out for a few years and is thus a success. AO sure as heck is NOT a leader of the Sci-Fi themed MMORPG industry. Also the Sci-Fi themed MMORPG industry is a vacume. There is only AO and SWG. AO technically has better game features and game play than SWG. If AO had not botched its release, it would be doing far, far, better. SWG is the love child of UO and AO, taking the best features of those two games and building on them.
The bottom line is money and profit. Because hey, MMORPGs are a buisness. A buisness needs to be successful. Successful buisnesses make profits. UO, EQ, AC, DAoC, AS2, Lin, HZ, are all profitable. They are all successful. Thus they are all in competition. And since all SEVEN of them are Tolkien-themed MMORPGs, they are all in direct competition. 7 games is sure as heck enough to be TONS fo competition! We are talking about combined playerbase of easily over 1 MILLION + player accounts!
And it gets even better! The Tolkien-themd/D&D themed MMORPG market is about to go from being over saturated to being uber-super-mega saturated! With new soon to be releases like WoW, EQ2, Lin2, GW, and perhaps the mighty VANGUARD. Along with the hordes of new titles listed in the left side menu at this here site of MMORPG.com.

SWG is all about choices. Successful PvE can be done with Swordsman, as well as with the 10+ other combat only professions. Successful PvP can be done with Fencer/Rifleman, as well as with the 10+ other combat only professions. It is about studying the game, tactics, lay of the land, learning how armor works with the HAM bars, buffs, the sweet spot of long range, mid range, and short ranged weapons.

Have you even tried playing ALL 30+ professions? Also SWG is not a combat ONLY game LOL! SWG is not EQ. In SWG there are tons of choices on how to play. There are roughly 10+ combat only professions and professions that have any effect on combat (like medic).
I'm on the 14 day trial and i must say im loving it! I like the idea of helper droids so the newbies can learn how to actually play their character... I'm seriously considering purchasing a subscription!

Here are my 2 cents...not that they are worth anything...but...I have been playing this game since Day one and loved it up until about 2 months ago. So I decided to take a break from it and it did wonders. I think alot of people are split 2 ways on this game. I came back to it this month and am having fun again. But my only problem is the fact that we are still "BETA" on this game...everything is being revamped and the ideas flowing out are incredible but its going to be awhile before they hit. All in all one of my favorite games I just wish they had waited to release it when it was "READY" heheh. Ok.

One of my freinds at school plays it and he always speaks high of it. I can understand that from someone who actually enjoys the game. But I still can't see how anyone could enjoy this game. Half the time I see my friend doing stuff in his free time he is going over all this crap about SWG and I can't even understand him. Jedi this, Sith that, BIG WHOOPEDY DOO!
I just cant grab the concept of this game at all. I'm a fan of Star Wars and some of its games, but I truly think that George Lucus would die just to roll over in his grave at the mention of this so-called GAME!

The thing i find the funniest is that most ppl see what other ppls views on games are and take that opinion and decide that a game is worth playing or not.
its really sad because you will miss out on alot of really good games if you do that. buy or try a friends, and really try it and then make an opinion from that not someone elses view point.
oh and with star wars galaxies atleast they are working at making it better which isn't always the case with some games.

Thats because its only your opinion and every single one of us has our own unique opinions about the game. While, you, in one house could only think murderous thoughts about the game (metaphor), the guy down the street think's its the best thing since slicebread.
For me, I came back after realizing every single other mmorpg I had ever played was somewhat less appealing than SWG. (and I've played a lot). Im not playing to obatin Jedi, Im not playing to max out 32 professions. En1Gma, I agree 100% with you. I have tried Ao, Asherons Call2, Endless ages, Horizons, and a feww others this week and all of them left me wanting what Star Wars Galaxies already gives me. While each had its pros I found the cons outweighed on all of them. While I haven't tried Final Fantasy XI(which the only thing that sounds bad about it is the fact that u really should be in a group to get xp) I have found SWG to be everything I want and very fun in an MMORPG.

there are roughly 500 posters total at this site. Out of them there are roughly 200 with more than 100 posts. Many of those posting at this site are multi accounts because it is tooo easy to make multi accounts since this here site is free. Any and ALL polls at this here site need to be viewed with this in mind. MMORPG.com is really good to find out info on upcoming MMORPGs, and current MMORPGs as posted by the game makers and developers theirsevles. New news, new releases, new betas, etc....
BTW, if you want to take some poll made by 1 SWG basher over the 200,000 thousand players who have voted for SWG with their wallets, then that is up to you.

Dude, EVERY single game ever made is HATED and disliked by people! Ever hear of that Asope Fable with the Farmer and his Donkey? You can't please everyone, no matter how much you try. Only thing you can do is please yourself. In the future when you go to check out a game:
1. First decide how you personally feel about it. Do you like what you see on the box? The type of game it is? THEN find out if the game is financially successful or not. Especially if it is a MMORPG. This way you know if the MMORPG will be around for years or will fold.
You said you were impressed with SWG. SWG is ALSO a 100% successful MMORPG. It has easily more than 100,000 players.
That is all the factors you need to decide if SWG is worth trying or not. I'll also add that SWG is intended first for Star Wars fans. Next for casual players aka players with 1-3 hours free time each game session to play. If you are also a Star Wars fan, and have a life aka not much free time, then SWG is even more worth trying.

Let me get this straight. You have a REAL LIFE friend who gives you nice reviews of SWG. But you dismiss what he says? You see reviews by 1-20 posters on a small game site on the internet. A free game site in which many posters skew reviews, polls, and votes, by making mutli accounts. You take that over what your Real Life friend says? Why? George Lucas had/has a PERSONAL involvement in SWG. Every single thing in SWG had to get the ok from LucasArts/LucasFilm and the Flannel One himself. He is very aware of SWG. The HUGE issue with the Bothans and how they look is one example that got his personal attention. Lucas is not rolling over in his grave or wishing he could die so he can. Lucas is rolling over in the bank in all the money he is making. It is the only reason he gave the OK for SWG to get made in the first place, and made a few certain rules SWG must follow and stick to. (No one can be a Sith, no Hoth, no Dagobah, he has final say on everything in SWG, he has a 50% intrest in the game, etc.. etc...)

The thing i find the funniest is that most ppl see what other ppls views on games are and take that opinion and decide that a game is worth playing or not.
its really sad because you will miss out on alot of really good games if you do that. buy or try a friends, and really try it and then make an opinion from that not someone elses view point.
oh and with star wars galaxies atleast they are working at making it better which isn't always the case with some games.

Thats because its only your opinion and every single one of us has our own unique opinions about the game. While, you, in one house could only think murderous thoughts about the game (metaphor), the guy down the street think's its the best thing since slicebread.
For me, I came back after realizing every single other mmorpg I had ever played was somewhat less appealing than SWG. (and I've played a lot). Im not playing to obatin Jedi, Im not playing to max out 32 professions. I'm just playing it because, in my opinion, its fun to play and, in my opinion, the DEVs are turning the game around to what it had been last year and most mmorpgs don't even do that.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
