Still no game able to put all the blocks together?

Hi

Like many out there I've been waiting for years now. Waiting for a game to come along that once again offers gameplay for a full on crafters. I'm begining to loose faith.

Anyone who was around at the time of the great crafting collapse a few years back will know what I mean. It was when the big crafter games like SWG and Horizons tripped over their own feet, and games like WoW swooped in to establish the new norm of simple-is-best . From that era on game developers seem to have turned their backs on the crafting players. Too scared to go against a statistical history ,which actually came about due to developer stupidity, and not the crafting systems themselves.

So here I sit in limbo, bouncing from one game to the next. I suspect I am not alone in my curse.

Is it really so hard to put the blocks together? What I mean is, we have seen games that have perfected crafting and player economies in the past, and we have seen seen games that have perfect combat and PvP systems in the now. So why is it that no team of developers has managed to fit the blocks together? Why is it that every bloody game is either one or the other?

Its a domino effect, it takes 4 years years typicly to take ideas and put them into a game... perhaps 4 years from now a game will come out that has everything you want, though i suspect by then you'll want something different.

I personally like the idea of a completely seperate crafting class (not a secondary prof to a combat prof), but of course content has been hard to find (at least in the few games I've played).

SWG had an amazing template they could have used for crafting, but they completely dropped the ball on it. As one of the phases at the village on Dathomir there was a series of medical crafting quests that were fun and immersive, but not many people got to experience it so it completely went under the radar.

That series of quests could have easily been used as a template to many more crafting quests, something that many crafters were starving for.

I to remember the awesome crafting system that was SWG.  I remember the joy of going out and not just hunting for ore, wood, and gems to craft something.  I remember having to set up basically drilling stations to get the exact chemical I wanted.  I remember spending hours out in the world trying to find the right quality mineral that would help me build a blaster like no other.

In my eyes SWG (pre going insane) was the best game for crafters and explorers.
