I tend to agree with a post from a GM in another beta recently ; to paraphrase.. "There's no such thing as an accidental outburst in a text based conversasion"  Yes if you are on Vent or some other you may lose it, if you have to actually TYPE the word.. you are intentionally using it.

While I agree that there is indeed a profanity filter in place,  replacing the text of ****-YOU you're an ***-hole in no way diminishes the original intent.

People, (children included, or those that simply choose to act that way) should be able to curb their impulses or refrain from discourse until they reach a level of maturity  enabling them to interact with the general public.

Secondly, since we can't talk across factions, there's really no reason to curse. I mean, what's the fun of cursing at your own side? lol
Still, I am often amazed at the mentality and lack of overall maturity of gamers. It's one thing to poke fun at something, trash talk, or just be sarcastic to a situation. But sometimes I just shake my head at how things work. For example, we have a shoutbox on our site, and after a couple of weeks I saw the need for a profanity filter. Simply put, the language there was embarrassing, and it was too much to expect our moderators to control. So, I added a profanity filter.
Within minutes I literally got dozens of pm's and e-mails from our members complaining that they couldn't curse any more in our shoutbox. While I did not say it at the time, I was totally amazed at how important using vulgarity is to some people. You'd swear I was depriving them of oxygen.

    Amen

We are supposedly grown ups, the whole point of 'cursing' is a form of rebellion in the first place. Thats why teenagers tend to curse more than 'adults'.

But some of you react like cursing is a god given right and fundamental to your ablilty to live... curses are supposed to be used in outburst or in moments of anger, if at all.

And I am very disappointed in the person who said if you cant deal with cursing GTFO.... Uhmm so I should not play a game just because i don't think I should be cursed at? Give me a break! I don't play games to watch someone with little to no ability to express themselves curse constantly.

Maybe those who think that the only way they can express themselves is to curse, should be the ones to leave. I don't know about you but my parents and grandparents taught me it was disrespectful to curse around others.

What did your parents teach you?

And I use to be on vent with some 13-16 year olds who cursed all the freaking time and NONE of the adults would do a thing about it,. it was not their problem., and I was looked down upon for saying anything about it. Then they would curse around the teens and wonder in private conversations why the younger generation was so impudent and cursed so much...

Maybe just maybe they were following the example of their elders?

And we all have one friend who curses every other word....I want to kill that friend... a lot... but I owe him money... and he has a car....

Edit: Yes I use the OCCASIONAL cuss word on the boards to get my point across. But i don't sound like an illiterate sailor on shore leave after 2 years at sea either....

Cursing has its ups and downs. I think there should be a filter, it can get annoying to listen to someone start every word with a colorful adjective that serves no purpose...But it does have its uses. If I proverbially stub my toe, I will curse. end of story.

I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad, The dreams in which I'm dieing are the best I've ever had.
