So I just bought the game today installed it and everything I also installed a brand new graphics card (Radeon X1950 XT) and have all the software set up correctly. I can turn on the game and play for about 5-10 mins normally until the game shuts down and I get this...
Fatal Error.
Everquest II had detected an unrecoverable error and must shut down.
<Verify> D:liveeq2frameworkcoredevicessrcDirectX9RenderDevice.cpp(1997):DirectX. (E_OUTOFMEMORY)
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thanks!

I had the same exact problem when playing eq2. It got so frustrating that i finally stopped playing. You can go on the boards and try and find a solution. I searched on multiple gaming forums (world of warcraft, everquest 2, vanguard) and i have found a ton of people having similiar issues.
The most common responses you will get are to make sure all your drivers are up to date, to clean out your tower of any dust or build up, to make sure your powersupply and fans are working correctly, to disable any processes that may be taking up unneccesary power, and also to make sure your ram isn't corrupt. NONE of these worked for me. I eventually disabled "v sync" in my nvidia control panel and that seemed to slow the problem down.
One thing i might suggest also is to disable the MDM.EXE application which is the machine debug manager. For some reason, disabling this solved all my crashes and frame rate issues.
start>run>type msconfig> services> uncheck machine debug manager then reboot
I believe that its something to do with DirectX....
Is yours updated?
PS - All mammals have nipples.
Get over it already.
Id reinstall DirectX since its mentioned in the error message. Also try posting on the Eq2 tech forums. forums.station.sony.com/eq2/forums/show.m

Wow, that sucks I would check the official board.
Its very fussy on which drivers you use thats for sure wether ATI or Nvidea
I found this related link with a bunch of suggestions that might help:
http://forums.techguy.org/games/579386-e_outofmemory-error-eq2.html
So I tried what TheHavok said to try and do, no luck so I've done what Simkyn's link has said and am about to try out the game and see if it works. I've updated to the latest driver for my ATI X1950 XT and updated my directX 9.
I'll let you all know what happens.
Thanks for all the help so far!
Ok still no luck =/ Guess the next thing to do is try to uninstall the game and reinstall.
Anymore suggestions?
Thought it may have been working after I reinstalled it but nope...
A short question. You got more than 2 GB of RAM?
If I do run the game a Very high or Extreme quality, the game sits on 1.5GB usage. In vista this results that it uses addresses above 2 GB, which results in a crash. There is one method to fix it, if you got more than 2 GB ram.
1. Download CFF Explorer (or something similar to edit .exe files). I uses one from www.ntcore.com.
2. Open EverQuest2.exe in that program.
3. Click the Characteristic tab (in NT Header=>File Header)
4. Mark "App can handle >2gb addresset".
5. Save the file.
6. Do this after the patching is finish (before you clicking PLAY), or start the game directly with use of the Everquest2.exe file.
This can be considered as a "bad" fix, but it does work (and I found the fix on the official forums, haven't checked if it is still there).

Leemeg.
Yea thats how I uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers. Don't have 2gb of RAM
Also on some other forums they were telling me to uninstall some files like the .exe I have done a search for this file on my computer and no luck. Could it be possible since I don't have this file that may be the problem? Also my card should overheat since it has a cooling fan attached to it. I will try to download some stress test downloads though. Got any suggested ones?
This is the fix I used...and it worked. Has to do with the game attempting to use all of your video memory first. By setting the min and max of your Virtual Memory gets rid of this issue.
Cheers!
So you said something about virtual memory and I didn't see thatpart while looking at the link >< I'm looking at my virtual memory settings now and heres what there at.
Initial Size (MB): 1536
Maximum size (MB): 3072
Minimum allowed: 2 MB
Recommended: 1534
Currently allocated: 1536
So what should I set mine to?
Thanks everyone!
Honestly, you should look more in your vid card driver then anything else. Roll em back to an older version.
Should not have to roll back...instead use the Virtual memory settings...I had the EXACT same error, did the min max at 4096, and BOOM...error gone.
Try the virtual mem trick first...trust me...it DID work..
If not for you, THEN look at a roll back...but, I have the latest greatest driver, and this issues was fixed with the VM fix
Cheers!
Yea I'll give it a shot right now. I also just talked on their live chat to one of their employees. She told me to try and switch to only one processor this I'm running a duel. They don't supports duels right now.
I never had to do that (I also run dual core...) it does peg one to the max, and may help some...but the out of memory error can only be fixed by memory resources.
The other user who suggested the >2GB fix is also on to something...that made the game very smooth for me (I run 4 gigs myself.)...but if your below that, try the VM fix...worked wonders for me
Cheers!
Thought the VM was working but then I got the dreaded error message again...
I had a similar problem with eq2 a while back. If i recall correctly i stopped using the official radeon drivers and used, hmmm, damn, cant remember who puts out the drivers....
Ah quick search and i found it, omegadrivers.net. Btw i was so annoyed at this i stopped buying ati cards.
Actual error message (that I received):
I didn't do any of this! What I actually did was reset my Virtual Memory to;
Custom size
Initial size: 4096
Maximum size: 4096
Haven't seen the error since!

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me.

Thats what I did...worked like a charm...but I wonder if Ram also has any heading to this. What I mean is...if the user only has 1 gig will this work...while users with 2-4 gigs, it works like clockwork...
I would get this error every 15-30 minutes...now it is totally gone after this.
Thoughts?
There is a 25 page thread on this bug on the official forums and a fix has been promised although not delivered up to now. The header fix ( alteration of the everquest2.exe file) has worked for some but not all and the devs don't like you doing it, pointing out that it is against the TOS. The only sure fix at the moment appears to be lowering the graphics settings to a level or two below what your machine is capable of and turning off the shadows. Apparently EQ2 has routines that prevent it from eating up too much memory and at the moment it is stopping itself too soon, or at least that is the official explanation. If true I wonder why the fix is taking so long.
Do you maybe have a link to that thread..I am always interested in reading about this stuff...Geek at heart I guess.
I did try the header fix, and that client runs fine...but to be safe, I also have a regular install..I noted on the regular client, when I was in Qeynos harbor...BAM, it crashed with that error...but the fixed exe did not crash there...
Interesting
Thanks
