1) MMORPGs with no originality.  Really, can the nerds that develop these games force their minds to think about something other than The Lord of the Rings for two seconds?  Obviously not, because every "fantasy" MMOG is basically Middle Earth Online with a different name.  And don't tell me that "fantasy" means you have to make a LOTR clone.  Fantasy games can still have originality.

2) MMORPGs that break the mold of the LOTR-MMORPG are boring, grind fests--even more so than the fantasy MMOGs (except, perhaps, in the case of Lineage II).  Actually, the only MMOGs that come to mind that aren't fantasy-based are Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes. *SNORE*

3) Where has the "RP" in MMORPG gone?  Notice how people now refer to them as "MMOGs", instead of "MMORPGs".  Really, where has the lost art of roleplaying gone?  Why is that people no longer feel the need to immerse themselves in their games--it's fun!  An even better question: why don't the developers care?  All they cater to are the "powergamers" (a.k.a. nerds who will willingly shell out $15 a month for a shallow and unsatisfying experience).  I mean look at Lineage II.  Apparently, NCsoft is upset that there are Asian and American nerds alike stealing virtual money for real cash.  But what do they expect with the way their game is set up?

I'll tell ya, everytime I log on to a MMORPG, I feel like I'm logging into a virtual public school.  Everyone is a selfish and immature jackass, and it makes for a very unenjoyable experience.  No one practices any sort of self-government in what they say--it feels like a movie in the Alien quadrilogy, for Pete's sake!  F*** this, f*** that!  It gets old quickly.

4) I don't have a MMORPG to play.  I spend all day messing around on a bunch of stupid message boards all over the Internet, when all I really want to do is play a game.  I have FFXI, SWG, CoH, and Horizons--I hate them all.

Zide, I too feel your pain   That's why I moved from mmorpgs to FPS.  I have immersed myself in Battlefield Vietnam, have played it everyday for the last 2 months for about 2 hours a day, has not got old even a bit.  I am sick of mmorgs, and I think their peak has hit and we will see a major decline in the next few yeears.  Until some company finds a way for us to actually jack into the game like a matrix type thing , mmorpgs are going to be the same cookie cutter boring ass power grind fiestas

I feel ya, man, I really do. Current MMORPGs suck. Either the game itself is buggy/laggy/empty or the playerbase is immature, selfish, and gank-happy. Sometimes both the game and the community is bad.

I have the same problem at this moment, NCSoft is pissing me off for sure as they don't know how to create a mmorpg (only the ones that suck) imho.

I feel the pain. I just want to play a game, when all I do is hang around forums instead. Fun, but not as fun! It seems that all these games are great for a little period of time, until we realize it's a generic clone with a different setting and a few tweaks. Can't people think of something different? We all await EQ2, WoW, UXO, MEO, and what have you: but now you think. How much different will they be? Let's just hope they don't end up like SWG, that would really suck.

I have played EQ, Horizons, DAOC and several others and the only thing I really get from them is FUN.  I am not trying to make a seperate life in games but to meet in RP new and exciting people that can share adventures.  I am not sure what there is other than FUN as none of them will write a paycheck for me and as I pay for them I need to get some fun and satisfaction.

 

You know like earning levels and items or building a house, I am looking forward to EQ 2 as I can in some ways feel the pain of all the new MMORPGS having the same feel to them and I need somthing new and exciting to keep it FUN.
