Yup - The chat box will be resizeable, the font size resizeable, we are adding chat bubbles and we are adding tabbed inventory. All before launch.

    **edited to add resizable fonts**

The chatbox is nuts, it took me over a week to figure out how to switch chatrooms but they are going to redesign it soon.

    This is not a game.

Bottom line is that modern games are judged by many in the player community on beta impressions.  Whether a design feature is "just a placeholder" or not, it should be properly designed in the first place, even if the final version will be more polished.  And if someone thought putting a chat box top left with sky behind it was a good idea, that's really not a good omen at all... kind of following on from the SoE NGE school of interface design.

Late changes shortly before release usually mean unexpected consequences, both good and bad.  Has been that way since UO launched, it won't likely change any time soon.  If it's not working then of course it should be changed, but sooner not later - the day the game launches the dev team is just totally likely to go on reactive mode for 6 months fixing the bugs they missed in the first cut, and any missed feature is likely to look rushed and unfinished - just look at chat bubbles in Vanguard.
