Mature Rating

Bah! Lets be honest. If anything the Mature rating will make people want to buy it more. Its just kids will have to gather the money themselves and cant depend on grandma to buy it for them. I give AoC credit, its giving what 90% of MMORPGers want and yet all other MMORPGs are afraid to provide.

I think the 'Forbidden Fruit" of Mature Rating will be a bonus

The greater of the niche groups have been waiting for an MMO like this for a long time, so theres no doubt it will be successful, but one cannot blind themselves into thinking this is going to become the next "big thing" , the content is waaaaay off base as far as mainstream goes.

 

I imagine the community to be much similar to the EvE community, theres a HUGE following... but if you ask an average Joe, hes never played it or heard of it.

 

But I think the AoC community prefers it that way.

Having a "Conan" game that is not a "Mature" rated game isnt a Conan game it would be unacceptable if it did not have the gore flying or nude females

Ya know what you are absolutely right about that. I would rather have a low population game that i enjoy to play and really get into with great lore compelling combat system and a good tightknit community, rather than a mainstream cookiecutter game that 90000000000 people play thats just good enough to appeal to the masses.  I really hate the attitude that some people have where if they can anticipate that it wont be the next wow killer and be the "next big thing" as you put it, then theres NO WAY it can be a good game.

Take this for instance, i was beta testing tabula rasa a couple days ago and i recommended the game to an old WOW friend that currently has pvp team at the top of his battlegroup. He tried the game for no more than one hour and then proclaimed it as "utter garbage". I disagreed and asked him what he had to base it on. he said "well for one thing it will never have a high player base and it will only appeal to a niche". ultimately he refused to play the game and told me it was the "worst game hed ever played" and promptly went back to wow. While it is true that tabula rasa might not have a big player base that doesnt mean its trash!!

This is the attitude that most WoW players have. HEY if 8 GAGILLION people play this game then it has to be the best!!!!  i disagree. And it is that very attitde that make other companies adopt the wow business model. thus producing the "wow clone"

So To hell with "mainstream" i say. Mature rating hundering numbers or increasing them?  honestly doesnt matter to me. what should matter is if a game is produced that is fun, challenging and keeps me wanting to come back for more.

You should know by now, a horse can never be dead enough to miss a beating on this site.

The mature rating will probably bring in a whole lot of people just out of curiosity. But hopefully the gameplay will weed out those people who are looking for another wow clone (not that im busting on wow, at least not right this second).

So this mean that of all beta testers, stupid WoW players are 60%.

And all of them complaining that its nothing as WoW?

And the developers listen to them and decides to delay the game six months because the beta testers think its to comlicated

Sad but true.  I really feel that WoW has given the entire mmo community a gigantic nipple to suck on. Its just like weve regressed into nothing more than comsumers willing to settle for mediocrity. Its really funny too becuase those same people are the ones complaining about being bored and wanting something fresh and new and that the mmo is doomed forever.  Stop buying all of this generic processed garbage and set some new standards for youself.  I dunno i guess im a little bitter from seeing every mmo that comes out become more generic than the one before. I started with ultima online and ive enjoyed each mmo ive played less and less.

lol sorry if im acting like Eor right now but im tired of seeing the mmo de-evolve in front of my eyes.  Please save me age of conan

Small niche or Biga mega-success. I am looking forward to seeing this game, Mature or not. Hell, I wonder if there is a way to force Mature players only.

Well now, that would be the goal of many gamers per a poll I ran a few weeks back, about 60% of the players here would prefer servers that kept the under 18 crowd off of their game.

It is a clever gimmick. Hats off to FunCom on this measure. Will the mature rating be enforced? Doubt it. Will people want to buy it even more because of that M? Yep

Absolutly.

UNfortunatly the Mature ranking of the game only prohibits players of a certain age from buying the game. In my experience AGE of a player does not always correlate with maturity. I wager many of us have seen this too. We need some sort of standard 'Maturity IQ scale'. Now how fun would it be to make that list of questions
