Don't Hate WoW because it's beautiful

You know what I use to be one of those WoW haters out there, but then when I bought the game to try it out,  I realize that the reason people hate its beacuse its so beautiful.  It's really a good game.  I think the reason people don't rank World of Warcraft on their Top Releases is because they have resigned it to Legendary Status.  You can try to argue against  the 9 million subs.  But the gameplay and depth of World of Warcraft is really overwhelming compared to other games that tried and failed to create a MMO for the masses to enjoy.   So, really no matter how much you argue against the game,  you know you have already resigned it to Legendary Status.

In much the same way as Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, I'm pretty sure people hate WoW because it is shallow and stupid, and has no problem flaunting itself in front of the masses.

The most dumbest remark I'ver ever read. Firstly, how can you hate a game that you haven't even tried?

Secondly, if there are things that make some people hate the game then it being beautiful is the most incredible one I could think of. Everyone loves shiny things. Besides, to my mind it looks okay but it doesn't seem beautiful to me, it's coulorful but not especially beautiful.

ive played wow for about a year and it is an ok game but i certainly dont buy into the hype.

half the servers were empty last year, the burning crusade was weak...and id bet they are even less populated this year. There might be 9 million active players somewhere, but i seriously doubt there are more than 600-750k in north america. Still good by mmo standards, but lets face it:

Blizzard is not telling the whole truth about how many players are actively playing that game in north america.

the only thing legendary about wow is how its destroying any chance of a decently designed mmo for any mmo veteran.

imo daoc is still the king of mmorpgs.

I don't know what's more stupid in all honesty, the OP for posting such rubbish without even giving an argument and in the WRONG forum I might add, or the fact that the people who are supporting him are pretty much posting even worse rubbish, hating WoW because it's beautiful? Sorry, but it isn't even a great looking game and the 'cartoon' look is just a crappy excuse made by blizzard to do low polygon models that are hardly anatomically correct even, sorry, but this is just about as pathetic as fanboism gets, at least other WoW fanbois leave alone or ignore the topics they can't argue against rather than just make themselves look like idiots.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

WoW 9 million players?  a miracle, they've gain 1 million players in 1 month!... looks like blizzard is giving away some fake numbers ;)  and how exacly can a grindfest have a good gameplay? and if i remember well, WoW is full of trolls without troll-ears etc. and depth?... failed to find any depth in the trial...  o, and if your beloved blizzard is so good, then why don't they try getting some better terrains? making terrains using terragen or vue only takes about 1 hour, and you have an impressive terrain, o right, they like their cartoonish'ish graphics better, right?

Speaking for myself, I played WoW for nine months and successfully managed a raid guild.  More importantly, I do not hate WoW.

If you think WoW is beautiful, you should play any one of the following:

    EQ 2

    LotR

    Vanguard

If WoW impresses you, any one of the above will knock your socks off.

I think that there's a good reason for "low polygone models" Blizz uses.

It means that fewer CPU cycles, both client and server side, are devoted to rendering the graphics.  This means that you're going to be reducing overall lag in the game.  SWG has these highly detailed, highly customizable avatars that must be rendered in the world when you drop into the Cnet starport coming in from Bestine, and that intensifies the need for resources to handle rendering both client side and server side.  I had a pretty advanced system in 2003 I was playing SWG with, with 512MB of RAM, and it lagged something fierce in starports, without the animations of battle making things even more intense.  SWG was and is a RAM hungry game.  WoW much less so, mainly because Blizz made the decision to not make the avatars that detailed, to limit the choices.

This simplicity improves game performance.  It's a feature of WoW.

Now, I will grant you that WoW is a much simpler game than SWG is, even in the NGE mode.  The original SWG was far more complex in almost every way.

But Blizz was doing what they do...observing how others did it, and avoiding some pitfalls with their own product.

It's very much a trend on this site to bash WoW.  The OP's point may be simplistic, but it has somthing of a ring of truth to it.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

    Once a denizen of Ahazi

  • Blizzard, which structures the games like World of Warcraft to be addictive. They design these MMORPGs to keep people in the game. I do think the problem is tied in with other things like family issues, but the games themselves are inherently addictive. That's ultimately the cause of the problem.

Actually one of the more accurate believable posts i have ever seen from a WOW player.I stated something very similiar on another post about how playing SILKROAD actually looks ALOT busier than any WOW server. There numbers are deffinately fraud to anyone who owns stock in blizzard, and i have played on two seperate occasions over a 2 year period. There wasn't that many players at all on the server.

To say WOW is an OK game is exactly the truth.Too many buy into hype, wich is a fact,as you can wander into any forum and see how many dummies want to buy pre orders of games they havn't even tried.I wouldn't go as far to say it ruins the chance of a great game being published, but it deffinately sends the wrong message to other devs.Every single aspect of WOW is done on an average playing field, with nothing breaking new grounds or attempting to even be unique in any of it's concepts.

What WOW has done through it's hype and BS claims is raise the awareness of the MMO market, so high that there is tons of devs jumping on the bandwagon.Wow has also made the RMT market an extremely successful one as there is tons of  cheart sites linking to wow.The game has even stooped as low as lineage now by offering illegal private server games to the public.Wow has some nice interface MODs,however modding is nothing new as EQ has been doing it since the begginning.Unreal tournament is the king of modding communities. It's not an MMO per say ,albeit you do play against several other players, more so than MMO's actually do.

Remeber blizzard was all luck and hype, why else did there parent comapny try to sell there whole gaming division, and failed on any decent offers.Plain and simple WOW was timed right, marketed right and very lucky, then add in game hoppers more hype and thousands of RMT botters/farmers,hundreds of ways to play the game easy and fulla cheats and yo ucan see how the whole thing took off. There is no doubt that several players play it because they actually like it,but there is players playing horrible games all over the globe, that doesn't make a game great .It is a fact 99% of the MMO market are all clones of each other,so to say anything is the greatest is feeding BS to the masses.

I totally agree with you on that one wizardry I tried to explain this awhile back that it was all down to the success of Blizzard's marketing, sad thing is the majority of WoW fanbois won't listen they'll just act like the OP and post a load of rubbish to try and get more people sucked into the product, the only reason so many people have joined WoW IS just because of the marketing, they were a bunch of ordinary folks who had never even heard of what an MMORPG was and seem to still think that WoW was the first ever game made. I wouldn't be surprised though if even half of these folks posting here were just idiots being paid by Blizzard to overhype the game still since they don't give any proper argument to what they're saying and when they're proven wrong they just HAVE to be right, it's just like vaporware trolls for games like Darkfall really, all we can do is hope that the people who have intelligence will do their own research instead of listening to people who think they're better than everyone else.

In my opinion WoW was like pokemon or trading card games, you get one person who starts talking about it, then it spreads like a wave and loads of other people get into it as well, as far as I'm concerned WoW is nothing more than a fad just like all these other products we see being marketed, once new and better games will come out the games' subscriber numbers will eventually begin to bleed and the franchise won't be as successful anymore because people will lose interest, as for the comments about hating WoW is 'cool' well, if your beloved game is so popular then, why are so many people hating it? I'm proud to be called a hater of this game in all honesty, it shows that I at least have the intelligence and the guts to dislike something, not because a bunch of other people like it, but because it has things that I really hate about it.

I don't hate WOW.  I used to play WOW and grew disenchanted with the gameplay model which has an endgame that involves running and re-running endless raid instances for loot.... which is replaced every time they decide to release a new expansion with 10 more levels and tons of faction to re-grind.

So while I had some great hours of gameplay, in the end it wasn't going to work out for me and I've moved on.

I don't play games based on whether they are "beautiful" or not, and I'll concede WOW's Legandary status since no game ever drew such high subscription numbers....... but its gameplay is anything but legendary.

I don't hate wow..but i don't like wow graphics, i don't like wow crafting system, and i don't like companies like blizzard that make billions, and don't have enough money to give costumers free content updates....how many this year? 1 i guess.

aaww 2 guys on mmorpg.com forums agreeing that WoW subscription numbers are fake must make it true

I agree what others have written on the marketing part, and that 'addiction' and lack of awareness of any other MMO is what keeps ppl playing tho

Here is my reply (although most people don't even read what i type) anyway, I do not hate WoW because it is "beautiful" i hate WoW because it is simple. Which is probably the reason that many people play WoW. Now hear me out, most americans have the FPS mentality, which is point and click and they get something done. WoW gives them just that they point and click a mob and kill it easy, do that a couple hundred more times and you level. The quests are a joke "kill X of B mob, return for reward." if you want a beautiful game try EvE online, or FFXI (most people disagree with me but its my favorite). WoW isn't beautiful, it is simple.

It's not the only reason ppl play WoW ofc.. and probably not even the major factor but I agree WoW is easy and gameplay is smooth. If ppl wanted an awkward and frustrating game they'd be playing SWG NGE
