Presumably, the players that have left in the intervening two years since billing was stopped on those accounts have already unsubscribed them. Subs won't be up 13k (or whatever the figure is) because those accounts are still classed as active already, just unbilled.
It'll probably cause a few hiccups as some players will have forgotten they haven't unsubscribed. Still, for two years those 13k accounts were allowed to play for free....
No doubt though there are some older players who will find a reason to say that proves SOE sucks also
---------------------------- Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what size my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.
Yeah, your post makes sense...lol. Wish I woulda thought before posting this thread...lol. I guess I cant blame myself too much. Once bitten twice shy after all.
The Katrina accounts is a case where SOE did something that frankly, is shocking in corporate America. Reaching out to their customers who were in considerable distress. SOE in it sown way was far more compassionate and humanitarian than our own federal government, which has had its collective head up its behind in the wake of this disaster.
I'm not sure how many were able to take advantage of this largesse, but I'm sure they're grateful for this gesture, which IMHO is a very magnanimous one on the part of SOE.
They are to be commended for it, not condemmed.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
The 13k accounts where for ALL soe games not just SWG but i agree its not something that many companys would do/did in the face of such horror SOE deserve a pat on the back for it.
Just a scheme to pad the numbers. Which are collapsing again right now. A source whispered "31,000 paying subs" in my ear Friday...
Are you sure this "source" isn't a developed case of a double personality disorder?, it seems you keep coming up with these random numbers and expect people to believe them, wheres your evidence?
I think SOE did a great thing when they cancelled those 13k accounts to help people in the less fortunate area, they even waited 2 years almost, i thank soe for that, RIP the casualties of that terrific event.
yes i agree they should be commended for the selfless act they did "2years ago" by helping out with people int he hurricane disaster area... but not what they are doing now.. its just a profit month for them they only choose to do so because their revanue is waaay down and they are barely makign ends meat in comparison to what it was a year and 2 years ago.. yea of coarse they advertised they were turning it back on.. but pretty much only the people who frequently browse the site or mmorpg sites see this news.. ok what about the other people who lost everything in the disaster and still havnt fully recovered enough to even consiter gaming yet.. maybe some lost their houses and everything in it (not to mention their computers) and cant afford to buy a new pc to play anymore.. how are they going to be advised of this news to cancle their accounts be4 its billed.. the answer is their not, atleast not until they get their credit card billing statement, and by then its too late because SOE wont refund it because they put up legal mumbo jumbo stating if not cancled by such and such your account will be due.. blah blah blah..
If SOE was truely compassionate.. they would turn off all subscriptions to all accounts that have been Inactive since the hurricane.. or better yet if they claim to have lost that information(as they state alot like when they said they couldnt never do pre-cu again because they "LOST" the old codes) they could just turn off all those people subscriptions anyway.. because if they get interupted they can always.. re-subscribe... SOE just needs to use a little common sense in these matters.

They turned them back on because things are looking up for the area that was hit, if they wern't 'compassionate' they wouldn't of turned them off in the first place, do your research please!
I was waiting for someone to play that card, it's almost as bad as the 'My source says 31k subscribers' card. Keep em coming!
I have multiple sources on the sub number. It ranges from 31K to 54K, depending on who I listen to. The one on the low end probably doesn't count all access pass and trials, the one on the upper end may be counting free trials. I can't tell you because I dont have first hand information.
BTW, GP, don't you have some work you should be doing? I'm sure it isn't to reply to every one of my posts with a personal flame attack.
What do the NGE and Katrina have in common? Both were unprecedented disasters of mismanagement.
And the difference between NGE and Katrina was…
…that Katrina hurricane made SOE lose money from 13k accounts for two years
…while the NGE hurricane made them lose money from 200k accounts forever.
Wasn't it 350k last time? That number always seems to change, makes me lol.
You are right. 350k are the number of all people that will never come back due to the NGE, including the ones who tried the NGE and quit. 200k is the net loss though.

Im thinking they probably still make a good chunk of cash because of Station Pass. Think of how many people have that, who play EQ2 and Planetside or some combination of games on that bill. Just a thought. Then again maybe they only get some percentage for people who have bought the game or something, I just have the feeling they do get something out of it because SWG wasnt on the Pass for the longest time it just seems like maybe they got on board after they began to lose money.
Again just a thought I had when I read this post. I dont mind people making money, I want them to, but this game is done and I THINK that the reason it is still up and running at this point might be the station pass.
Current: Between 30,000 and 60,000 (sources are all in that ballpark)
Yeah, the NGE was a greeeat idea...
My guess is that once it gets going it won't take the "duckservers" very long to equal or pass the NGE in number of players... Since we will be talking ~20K -ish left by then.
SWG historic sub levels: Pre-CU to JTL (October 2004): 300,000 Immediately after CU (May 2005): 250,000 Right before the NGE (November 2005): 225,000 June 2007: 50,000 August 2007: 90,000 Current: Between 30,000 and 60,000 (sources are all in that ballpark) Yeah, the NGE was a greeeat idea... First of all I want you to understand I BELIEVE YOU. I just wanna know where I can go to get these numbers from a verifiable source. Again I BELIEVE YOU but you saying it isnt as good as an actual SOE population website or something like that. Not only that but, I want in on all the info you guys are getting so I can make a more educated post now and then.

You can't. There is no verifiable source for SOE sub numbers ever. But if you are a SWG player who played in those eras, and does currently... They feel right don't they?
That is how I evaluate what I believe and don't. When I quit last month, SWG had had a surge of returnees and seen many leave.

LOL I think those numbers are WAAAAAY to high actually. I did play during those eras and the last time I was on I spent 4 hours going to EVERY city on EVERY planet and the most people I found was like 15 or 16 in Mos Eisly.
I have not looked into the methodology or data-reliability grading. Charts showing SWG are in "Subs less than 50,000"; which chart a game goes on seems to depend on its current sub base.

They gained 8000 in a day?

Except that he posted 31,000 yesterday and 39,000 today, unless I'm completely reading this wrong. That's entirely possible at this hour, though.

Wow, theres actually a way to semi-guess the sub numbers? amazing.
MMOGCHART is the long-time biggie, tho it hasn't been updated since July 2006: http://www.mmogchart.com
Their numbers on SWG are graded as "C", meaning industry best-guess, not official.
Another charting site I came across recently is http://mmogdata.voig.com
I have not looked into the methodology or data-reliability grading. Charts showing SWG are in "Subs less than 50,000"; which chart a game goes on seems to depend on its current sub base.
