I've corresponded with their technical support and that "recommended" is pretty much the minimum specs. They're still tweaking it (when we wrote, which was maybe 3-4 months ago), but they didn't expect to be able to get it much lower and that was really scraping the bottom in terms of the look of the game.

Well, put it this way.  We've spent 5 years developing the game on XP.  That's what nearly all of us run internally.  We're not using any of the DirectX 10 stuff that's specific to Vista (as that's basically an engine rewrite to use).   We run on Vista, but it doesn't buy you anything for our game.  Whether it's better for the rest of your usage is a personal choice, but don't get it for us!

If you can run this with a FX5700 then you know it's gonna be bad , bring on warhammer online , rip pirates of the boring sea.

Min specs always tend to be fairly optimistic and it's not as if being able to turn all the settings off and play on a low spec card could possibly affect the game play.

Still, good post none the less. Go you.

Wow.  Did you just say that any game that runs on a 5700 must be boring?   Usually game devs get lambasted for requiring too high specs.  Now you want to slam us for being too low?   Yeesh.   I'm sure the makers of every award winning game that came out before the last  6 months will be happy to know their games are now retroactively boring.

Yea I agree.  Vanguard made the mistake of making a game that can be played in 2010... seriously you can't win.

Lets break it down shall we:

    Recommended:

    - Windows® XP/Vista - Everyone has

    - Core Duo 2.0 Ghz or greater - Everyone must have this or equivalent and if they don't then seriously upgrade because PoTBS is the least of your troubles.

    - 1024 MB RAM - Who has less than 2gig of 'good' RAM these days?

    - DirectX 9 Compatible video card. NVIDIA® Geforce™ 6600, ATI® X850, or equivalent with 256MB of texture memory - 6600? or equivalent.  Geesh if you are still using that card get on Ebay and spend $50 bucks on a 7600gt at the very least. Hell buy 2 and SLi them.

    - DirectSound compatible audio hardware - enough said

    - Broadband Internet Connection - na

    - 16x DVD-ROM - na

    - 4GB Hard Drive Space - na

Now lets get this straight.  I am not a fanboi of PoTBS...yes I am looking forward to it but what I can't stand are idiots and you are an idiot if you complain because the game needs the 'recommended' spec to play.  If you are remotely interested in gaming then you would know the above spec is a joke and that almost 90% of the players out there have something 2-10x more powerful.  So stop your bitchin and get a life.

Actually on second thought why don't all the moaners pissoff to WOW or some other free Korean game and leave PoTBS to players who have a proper rig.

I have no idea what that guy (mrots) is talking about. I completely applaud designers that make games backwards compatible enough that we can all play them without having to upgrade our systems constantly. I remember when half-life originally came out we were playing the game with software acceleration and having a blast! Sure it looked a lot better with a graphics card, but 1) it wasn't a necessity and 2) it didn't make the game any less 'fun' in the least. This big confusion seems to lie when people confuse nice graphics with a good game. I can think of a LOT of really gorgeous games that are just –terrible-…I’d much rather it be the other way around. However, there really is no excuse for poor graphics anymore, but that’s not really what we’re talking about here. If you’ve seen the movies from Burning Seas, the game looks gorgeous (yes, yes especially the water). The advantage would be in not having to run them at full-blown max just to play at all.

Thanks for thinking about the little guys FLS!
