If you're a daoc vet, watch this pvp video that mmorpg.com has posted.

If you're the pvp vet from DAoC who enjoyed Roaming Emain and TRUE free world pvp, this game is going to be a huge letdown. Another "New Frontiers" honestly. Decide for yourself though.

Thank god it isn't I just watched DAoC PvP battles. Horrible, no tactic, no skill... well just like WoW.
You'd have to actually fight in a good 8 man group to truly understand how much skill is employed by a well run team. With the proper gear, coordination and teamwork a single 8 man can easily destroy 3 same level 8 mans who lack the talent of the players who work them.
But I agree.... AOC combat isn't really anything like DAOC, unless you count the fact both games have people fighting with swords, axes and casting spells.

Thats a pretty ignorant post considering the whole video i'm talking about its 23 minutes of AoC. Many people who talk about this game to new people inquiring about it claim its PvP to be "like DAoC". I'll give them the fact the actual "siege" is like DAoCs but the entire timelimit/instancing is nothing like it. Needless to say I was highly disappointed and wanted other DAoC vets looking into this game to be aware of it. I wanted to avoid giving my own opinion though so I decided to let the video of Age of Conan do the speaking for me.
Never heard this, what I heard is that Warhammer online will be like Daoc Pvp, cause is also, rvr and with the same development concept.
Also, it dont needs to be like Daoc to be "TRUE free world pvp" ... in other way, why are you comparing a fully "old" game like daoc with another that is in closed beta? better said. How can you compare games this way? is like you compare Ultima Online with Tabula Rasa...

Fact is people looking for a new game do indeed compare them to the past games they enjoy and anyone that says they don't is a fool. True there may be desiganted "Free world pvp" but in the entire 23 minute video they fail to hit on it. I'm using all factual things here so I don't see why so many complaints about my post.
As for the people comparing it to DAoC's rvr you can generally find a thread or 2 under the Gerenal Pub board for mmorpg.com or through the AoC/WAR forums. I've been looking into both games and know what I like out of the game and what i'm looking for when I play it. I'm sure others do the same so instead of opinions of how it compares up to other games, we now have fact. There you have it.
There are 2 kinds of massive PvP in MMORPGs :
1. Siege: Scheduled time; onl,y certain groups (mostly guilds); aim: conquer x (mostly a castle or an area)
best examples for siege : Lineage2, Guild Wars, Archlord, etc
2. Realm vs Realm : anytime; most race vs race or server vs server; aim: beating the other sider (race, realm, whoever) for special rewards (DaoC) or just for fun (WoW)
best examples for RvR: DAoC, RFonline, SWG, Vanguard (FFA server),etc
Just to ensure u r aware of it:
Age of Conan = Siege
Warhammer= RvR
Gods & Heroes = RvR (beginning after the 1st expansion)
Aion = RvR
result: AoC isnt like DAoC ^_^
See, its not that easy to sum up. DAoC also featured siege which you mainly saw the "casual" gamers liking as opposed to 8v8 free roaming that the more "hardcore" players enjoyed. The fact is its hard to classify games and compare them but people do it. So i'd much prefer people looking at factual things and making up their OWN opinions on what the game is like. AoC might be a great game, just not the one for everyone.
I haven't really seen a lot of people say this is like DAOC especially since its setup to compete with WAR. Not only is it not RvR its just not a good marketing ploy either.
I have not seen many, if any, posts saying this game was trying to get their pvp to be like DAoC.
They're around otherwise I wouldn't feel the need to post this thread. I more made this post wishing it was here when I first looked into AoC to let me know right off the bat rather then feeling like I was mislead by what people were saying the pvp was like. I'm sure people will now read this thread and watch the video and thank me later. Now quit getting mad I said negative things about your beloved game. I'm not saying it isn't fun, just not for everyone.
edit - and its not the game people saying it is. its people in the forums saying it and others agreeing to it that I have a problem with.
I truly hope you are not referring to me. Say what you want in a negative light so long as it is not misleading. I let it be known in Avery's thread that I had no intentions of playing Age of Conan, I will be playing Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. I simply stated that I have rarely if ever saw posts about this games PvP resembling Dark Age of Camelot.
Im sorry im not being ignorant, the topic title says "Stop saying this games pvp is like DAoC's" - would you care to point out anywhere in the last year a post where someone has said this on AoC forum in mmorpg.com. I bet you will come up with maybe 3 people with less than 10 posts here. I think its obvious to everyone that both games are fundamently different to each other and also share some characteristics found in most mmorpg's. I've heard of alot of DAoC vets who look forward to AoC though..
I don't quite understand what your goal is here? Are you just trying to say the two game share a small similarity and that overall in your opinion DAoC vets won't be happy in AoC? Based on what you saw in the video you listed? If so I would say that, that opinion if true it is pretty weak argument. Did you also know there are a fair few hundred DAoC vets all happy, set up shop on the AoC boards, with there same guild looking to play AoC? I know that these DAoC vets are looking forward to AoC "Ticket" system in a seige in an GvG environment as opposed to realms.
Seriously though your the first person I've seen who has suggested that "people are saying the games pvp is like DAoC's" pretty much everyone who posts here knows that AoC is GvG and not RvR. Hence my original post to you saying are you sure that you have the right section. You can only really compare DAoC to one other game and thats warhammer online. Both games incorporate more similarities with each other that any other out there.
For any DAoC vet you should try looking at these guilds for AoC:
http://forums.ageofconan.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17 < Guild Hall
Example >> "Myth Guild" one of the biggest on DAoC: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=30238 - A legendary DAoC PvP guild founded in 2001, who dominated the Merlin server and reigned for nearly 3 years as the #1 ranked guild, and later became a force to be reckoned with as Royal Black Watch on Albion-Gareth. < 1800 forum members...

Sad Myth is going to AoC, they were fun to farm. They didn't dominate Merlin also, more like zerg with the hordes of Mids lead by Drutt. Any Merlin "vets" remember the Drutt mp3? wonder if i can even post it here( has so much cussing in it ).
Anyway back on track, I don't think AoC pvp is anything like DAoC. AoC by the looks of it looks smaller, 100% guild based with a resource management twist brought in( I like this idea). If anyone played DAoC knows how intresting their realm vs. realm system was so I don't realy need to get into it or expressing my favorite parts.
Thank god AoC isn't much like DAOC.
DAOC FFA servers were all about whos guild was biggest. Mordred guilds would recruit anyone who owuld have them, and was ultimately why I Quit playing DAOC. Guilds of 300-400 people, and 10 of them knew each other well. Masses of nameless people doing battle, not to see who was better, but rather who has more expendable lifes to throw down, last man standing wins.
Ultimately in games where size isn't checked somehow, by Instances that check numbers, Zerg's Exsist, and prevail.
I am not very keen on the idea of playing with or dealing with Zerg guilds. I hate when Stratagy takes a back seat to statistics.
I really hope AoC Values teamwork, and Quality. It seems so far it will to some degree.

I would really like to hear the Drutt mp3 file. Now it remember it.
OK, using AoC and DAOC in the same sentence is wrong. DAOC is a mature game thats been 6+ years running while the way things look for AoC its aiming about as high as Archlord did.
FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !
Funny that you brought up DAoC's FFA servers up, do you not remember how that system worked in the frountier? The major guilds owned the keeps and the bigger ones owned the relics. IMO and i've seen it in other player controlled pvp mmos, the zerg guilds/alliances will dominate, AoC will be no different, don't kid yourself.

To some degree you'll always have that, but you won't need to be a big guild to have great PvP. There are team warfare games.
You mean bgs? Yes i saw the video of the 3v3 action. I still don't think anyone solo or anyone in a small casual guild will have any fun in the BKs. Unless you find a big guild hitting it up in the BKs, expect your pvp life to be in the bgs, kinda like WoW.
I have made a lot of good memories in DAOC One that come to mind was the Epic outdoor encounter where all 3 realms could try the same freakin huge and destructive dragon at the same time. Now talk about pure crazy chaos of battling the enormous beast (plus an army of the enemy realm) that flew around and chased the offenders across the zone along side your 100-400 realm mates while watching a horde of 200 Mids trying to do the same. The dragon was usually equially pissed off at all sides
