Red Ring of Death

So it hit my 360. . . *sigh* and right when I was a bout to beat Blue Dragon too. The agony.

Anyways so I filled out the warranty info and Microsoft is supposed to be sending me a coffin soon. I was wondering if I should send everything (power cords, component cables, hard drive, etc) or just send the Xbox by itself minus all the previous things.

Any help would be great.

P.S. It lasted just about 1 year, if anybody was curious. About 3 months longer than my first PS2 so that is not too bad.

Eternally mine,
Keebs

My first Xbox360 lasted one day heh.

I think you have to send the entire package (including the cables) since MS will send you a brand new one.

You send only the console itself, no power-brick, no harddrive etc.

    Ok thanks. . .

    One day, that is horrible.

    Thanks for the correction Jello.

Yeah I was pretty surprised when the Xbox died after one day. Got a new one from the store I bought it from, so its not a big deal.

But I heard it can take a while before MS sends you the new one, up to 4 week is what I have heard.

I think it's free warrenty for red rings. A lot of people have been getting it this month since the anticipation of Halo 3. My LP disk broke on me this month.

There are no costs attached for the red ring problem, Microsoft added a 2 years extra warranty just for that problem.

About that LP disk, does your Xbox360 scratches your other disks as well? It killed my Oblivion disk but the others are just fine.

I thought my X360 broke my disc but I was talking to support and they was trying to avoid my situation and cheap me out. I went all the way to the manager and they have this stupid disc program and I would be paying more money to get my disc back. They wouldn't even give me two games to compensate for my Lost Planet. I was FURIOUS at them. Then I talked to my pops and when I picked up my CE of LP we think it might be the problem because it was a bitch to get the disc out of it. My disc had 3 internal cracks from the inside out going north south east and west.

So I bothered not to deal with it. My friends Xbox 380 (hes on his 8 xbox including the hassle with his brothers one too) tore up his oblivion and he gave support hell till they went his way and they sent him Crackdown and Gears to compensate for his Oblivion and repaired his xbox.

What's the big deal with the RRoD? I've gotten it before and a quick power reset fixed it.

Is it just an inconvenience or is it telling me that my console is dieing?

for people who've had it longer and have stuff stored on the harddrive i think its harder to return an xbox ... unless the store would replace just the xbox ... i dunno....

OP: yeah just the xbox, your gonna have to take off your HD and just send in the xbox. I got the RROD once before and my xbox has never been the same

It means you're very lucky. Most of the time you can't use the console anymore and you will see the RRoD everytime you turn on your console.

Ouch. I guess I am lucky.

Mine doesn't happen everytime I turn on the console. It happens about 5-20 minutes after I start doing something (i.e. playing a game, playing an XBLA game, watching an HD DVD, DVD, etc).

If I red-ringed right before the release of Halo 3, I'd go out and buy a whole new console... but I hear they're hard to find now.
