quick question about the expansion

do you have to have the expansion to play world of warcraft or can you buy the orginal and just update it later?? or do you have to have them both to play online and everything? and if you subscribe when u buy the expansion will you have to renew your subscription, im going to be using a pre-paid card and don't want to redeem it then update in another 2 or 3 weeks and have it where i have to renew a subscription...

You can play WoW without TBC if you choose.  Of course you won't be able to level passed 60 or play a draenei or blood elf character.  The new lowbie zones will also be barred to you.  When you upgrade it will just unlock the content for you and allow your 60's to gain xp, until then any quest you do at 60 will reward gold instead of xp.

You do have to have the original game to be able to play TBC.

Once you subscribe it won't matter when you enable TBC.  If you do a 60 day game card and 30 days later you buy TBC, then you'll have 30 days left on your card to check out the new stuff.

alright, i've had friends hounding me about getting into WOW but i don't have the money to buy both the expansion and the orginal and be able to pay for the subscription, i will be building a undead warlock... so when i build that character it won't get deleted or anything when i get the expansion? i doubt i will reach lvl 60 within two weeks...

so what ur saying is i'll have the orginal, but only able to reach lvl 60, and be barred from some areas of the game. But when i buy the expansion nothing will be effected at all it will just unlock all the stuff im barred from?

Basicly yes, Once you Buy the game you get all the Origanal stuff, Battlegrounds, Core world / Races ect.

You will NOT be able to play the 2 New Races or enter any Zones that are from the Expantions they just wont let you in.

And your Cap will be 60 and will stay that way till you get the Expantions instaled.

No you wont lose any of your toons or anything.

WOW is a good starter MMO i ran from the game long B4 i reached lvl 60, Mostly because my friends were all 20 lvls higher than me.

If your friends are Serious about you playing tell them Fine ill het the game yall make an alt that I dont fata Solo my way to 60

There's absolutely no reason that you must buy the expansion.  Get the original and start playing with your buds.  At anytime when you feel like you want the additional content that the expansion offers, pick it up and install it, you won't lose a thing, you'll just gain stuff.  Many of the things that the expansion brought with it were added to the original game so getting the expansion before you are level 60 isn't that important unless you want to play one of the new races, the Dranei or the Blood Elves.  I'm not sure if you can get Jewelcrafting as a profession either if you don't have the expansion.

For a new player, the TBC is overwhelming and frankly  not needed, unless you want to roll a BE, or a Dranei. The old world offers flavor that is unrivaled even in TBC  inmo. Not only have they really ramped up the old world, making it look cleaner, they fixed alot of the buggs that were around for ever. The only downside to not owning TBC, Azeroth is pretty deserted now, but then again that is a godsend for Leveling and questing. Especially the gathering/hitman quests.

For a brand spanking new WoW player TBC really doesn't offer you much.  Unless you really want to learn Jewelcrafting profession or play a blood elf/draenei, just get the original game for now.

Once you're getting close to 58 that is when you should decide whether or not to get TBC.  Since you can enter the Dark Portal at 58, and the quest xp there is much higher,  you can begin upgrading your gear with Outland quest items and begin working up your Thrallmar/Honor Hold rep.

Don't buy the expansion until lvl 58, imo. Then it really is essential as the mobs in the Outlands give double exp. Not to mention to can't lvl past 60 without it.
